Chapter 44: Meaning of Cherry Blossoms

As soon as Lucia saw Erina standing behind the gate, she was so happy that she cried and quickly bowed.
In the afternoon, when Henry told her to call Erina, he was still normal, but when he saw that she couldn't contact Erina, he became depressed and then had a fever.
Looking at the garage and seeing that Hubert's car was not there, Erina asked in a low voice.
“Is the president not home?”
“Miss, the boss is going to meet a partner outside the province and has to have dinner with them, so he will stay there and return tomorrow morning.”
“So... does the president know that the young master is sick?”
“I don't dare inform the boss. I am afraid he will worry and it will affect the work.” Lucia replied.
As soon as Lucia finished speaking, Erina felt her whole body lighten. Hurriedly entering the house, she quickly ran straight to her room to put away her things and then went to Henry's room.
On the large bed with a modern and sophisticated design, Henry was lying with his eyes closed and breathing tiredly. Hesitating for a few seconds, Erina tiptoed to the bed and sat next to him, placing her thin hand on his forehead.
“Young master, young master.” She gently shook his shoulder.
The familiar call that Henry had always cherished and waited for suddenly rang out, pulling him out of his painful coma, and the corners of his eyes slowly opened.
When the image of the girl was clear before his eyes, he immediately sat up, grabbed her hand tightly, and whispered.
“Erina, is it you? Why did you come back?”
“Lucia texted me. She said you have a high fever.”
Erina answered while observing the changes on Henry's face. Seeing that he only showed joy and no other expression, she was somewhat reassured. Perhaps Vincent had not said anything to him yet.
“Did you take the medicine without eating anything? Let me cook porridge for you.”
“Lucia has cooked it. Just tell her to scoop it for me.” His voice sounded tired.
“Wait for me a moment.”
After finishing speaking, Erina stood up and left.
Looking at her slender figure walking towards the door, the corner of Henry's lips curled into a bitter smile, tears also flowing down. Since when did he turn into such a pathetic beggar of love?
That girl belonged to him from the beginning, but in the end, he was no different from the third person who ruined the steadfast love between her and Clement and had to constantly show weakness to gain her pity.
After a while, the sound of slippers was heard outside the room. Knowing that Erina was returning, Henry quickly wiped away his tears.
Putting the steaming bowl of porridge on the table, she pulled a chair to sit next to him and carefully picked up the bowl of porridge, scooped each spoonful, blew on it to cool it, and fed him, just like she had done before. She hoped this would be the last time she would personally take care of this poor young master.
After eating the bowl of porridge, Henry felt much better. When Erina was about to stand up and leave, he hastily grabbed the hem of her shirt.
“Do you need anything else?” She looked at him with wide eyes.
“Sit down, I have something for you.”
Henry leaned forward, pulled out the desk drawer, pulled out the box, and gave it to Erina, telling her to open the lid. After a moment of surprise, she followed his instructions, untied the bow, and opened the gift.
She was extremely surprised when she saw that inside the box was a Cashmere scarf handwoven from the hair of goats living in high mountains, under harsh weather.
“Honestly, I wanted to knit a scarf for you myself, but because I was clumsy, I bought it.” Henry smiled lightly, his voice slightly sad.
“I like this gift, it's warm in winter and cool in summer, very convenient.”
Hearing her compliment, Henry's eyes suddenly lit up. He was thinking that she would coldly push it back into his hand and say that she already had many scarves, no need to give any more.
Realizing that the person in front of her was still hesitant as if wanting to confess something, she immediately asked.
“You… do you need anything else? Can I go back to my room yet?”
“Oh. I ordered a brooch for you, but when I ordered it, I forgot to pay attention and accidentally asked them to make it according to the cherry blossom design. Now that it's close to your departure date, there's no time to change it.” He lowered his head, looking regretful.
“All flowers are the same. Why change?” She frowned and asked.
Next, Henry pulled open the drawer and took out a cherry blossom brooch made entirely of pure gold, studded with diamonds, extremely luxurious and graceful.
According to him, he simply thought that cherry blossoms were a symbol of youth, but when he received this item and heard the female employees talking to each other, he realized that this flower was a reminder of the temporary nature of all things, that beauty cannot last long.
Taking the brooch from Henry, Erina smiled slightly and fondled it. It is true that cherry blossoms only appear for a short time and then quickly fade, but next spring they will continue to bloom and show their beauty on the branches.
“Next spring, the cherry blossoms will bloom again, right? Think of it as a symbol of rejuvenation and rebirth. Personally, I think that the blooming and fading of the flowers is a reminder to everyone to cherish the present moment.”
Her gentle voice and eyes filled with strong faith seemed to bring him back to a dreamy sky without sadness, where thousands of fragile flower petals gently fell with the wind, blending into the melodious love song.
“Erina, please walk with me for a few minutes.” Henry suggested.
“Wait for me a moment.”
After saying that, Erina stood up, walked to the window, pulled the glass, and put her hand out. When she confirmed that it had stopped raining, she turned to look at Henry and nodded. Although it had only been a drizzle earlier, she was a little worried because he was sick.
The sound of footsteps of a man and a woman echoed through the darkness, passing through the branches and blades of grass that were once imprinted with memories of the time when they had not known love.
The golden moonlight of the past fell on the smiling lips of two children who had gone far away. Tonight, the moon was cut in half, only half remaining, shining a weak light on the human world.
“Erina, when you go over there, please pay attention to your health. You will easily get sick when you first come to a strange place.” Henry's voice rang out sadly.
“Don't worry, I'm an adult, I'll get used to it over time.” She smiled and replied.
“If you have free time, you should practice more. As far as I know, the master has never favored anyone like you.”
“I will practice diligently. Young master, thank you for the gift and the books.”
As soon as Erina finished speaking, the two of them returned to their starting point. Because the grass was wet, she sat on the swing, while Henry leaned against a nearby tree.
There is no flower whose fragrance and color do not fade, there is no love that does not linger deeply. The smell of late-blooming hyacinths in the garden drifted in the night breeze, evoking the passionate love he had for her.
“Erina, you better stay. Two years can't erase my feelings for you. If you knew the result would be like that, why would you persist?” He looked at her with sorrowful eyes and spoke.
“I want to try. Young master, we won't know anything until time tells us.”
Her resolute voice was like a fatal knife piercing Henry's heart. Because she wanted to escape from him, she accepted to try even though the chance was very slim.
Suppressing the pain deep in his heart, he smiled and reminisced about his childhood with her because he knew that as long as he didn't talk about their love relationship, she would talk enthusiastically.
After a moment of going back in time to the past, Erina fell asleep. She hadn't slept a wink all day, and with the worry and sadness, she was so tired that her soul was now flying to the ninth cloud.
Henry gently approached Erina. Since he grew up, he had rarely seen her sleeping. Her delicate face like the gentle moonlight helped soothe the emptiness and hurt in his heart from childhood until now.
The moment he sank to the bottom of despair, she appeared for him to cling to and rely on, and from then on, there was only her figure in his eyes. Until later, when he understood it was called the duckling effect, he realized he loved her deeply.
Gently brushing away the loose strands of hair on the girl's face, he knelt down and kissed her red lips. The scent of her silky hair and soft lips made him even more infatuated.
When Erina suddenly moved, Henry opened his eyes in panic and quickly stood up.  Looking at her defenseless appearance, just sleeping peacefully, he hated himself so much. How could he take advantage of the person he loved at this time?
After a while of hesitation, he bent down, put his arms around her, and carried her back into the house. Even though she knew clearly about his feelings, she trusted him without being wary, so he told himself not to do anything excessive until the day she officially became his wife.
After carefully placing Erina on the bed, Henry pulled the blanket over her and stood silently watching her for a long time.
“Good night, Erina. I love you so much.”
He turned on the desk lamp and silently turned away, pressing the switch to let darkness fill the room. Only tomorrow night and she would be gone. She volunteered to wander to a foreign land in exchange for the cancellation of the engagement.
During those two long years, he would not be able to see her or hear her voice because that was an agreement she had drafted with the consent of only his father.
