Chapter 52: Calculation
As soon as Louis stepped into the director's office, the phone in his hand immediately rang. Seeing that the caller was Erina, he quickly picked up the phone.
“I'm listening, miss.” He spoke politely.
“Come to my office to see me for a moment.” Erina said.
Louis's high forehead was slightly furrowed. Her gentle words seemed like she wanted to question him about something. Louis also hoped that Erina would find out the truth soon, but why did he feel like she was doubting him?
After straightening his tie and clothes, he took a deep breath and hurriedly walked to the next room.
“Hello, what do you want to ask me?” Louis bowed his head, his face not hiding his worry.
“Mr. Partridge, on Sunday I visited the big dance halls in the city. Do you know what the result was?” Erina smiled lightly, her eyes not leaving the middle-aged man in front of her.
“Please tell me, Miss.” He spoke timidly.
“All the cold storages have fake wine mixed with real wine. The managers of those places all asserted that the goods were imported directly from the branch. Therefore, I need to check our cold storage.”
Hearing Erina's words, Louis could only nod silently. It turned out that this girl was pointing the spear at him.
From the day he was recruited, promoted, and brought here by Hubert, he never had the thought of personal gain and damaged the reputation of Young Market company. Although real gold is not afraid of fire, being suspected by Erina made him feel sad.
The two of them hurriedly moved downstairs, straight to the cold storage.
At the request of the two leaders, the employees temporarily left, leaving only Erina and Louis.
Reaching out to open the wine box next to her, she started to check. Louis stood next to her and observed. The cheerful expression quickly returned to the man's face when he saw that all the bottles in the cartons were real wine.
Erina looked at him and then turned to open another box. She hoped her guess was wrong because, from the beginning, she had judged him to be a decent and kind person. If things went the other way, it would be a pity.
Working hard to help Hubert made her feel ridiculous. She wasn't worried that Young Market would lose revenue or lose its reputation, but her actions now were no different from intense concern. Because she had no other choice. Until the curtain fell, she had to act her role well.
After looking through more than ten cartons of wine without finding anything unusual, Erina tiredly sat on the floor, not knowing whether to continue patiently or not.
Seeing her like that, Louis chuckled, slowly approached the steel shelves behind, conveniently opened a carton on it, took out a bottle of wine, and shook it vigorously.
What caught his eyes made Louis speechless. After a few seconds passed, he finally opened his mouth to speak.
“Mistress, look at this.”
The branch manager's trembling voice made Erina turn her head immediately. Noticing his frightened face, she quickly stood up and ran over.
Louis handed the bottle of wine to her and quickly took out another bottle to shake.
“Fake wine.” Erina exclaimed with wide eyes.
“Here too. Oh my god, where did this come from?” Louis looked around the warehouse in panic.
The bewildered look made Erina even more confused. She didn't have time to ask him and he asked her, so who would she ask now?
She searched for a long time but couldn't find any bad quality wine, but he had already found two bottles as soon as he touched them.
“Don't you know?” She crossed her arms, her voice serious.
“Mistress, I really don't know, please believe me.” He said as if he was about to cry.
“The imported goods are coming straight from the port, right?”
“Yes, after the procedures are done, they are brought to the warehouse. They are not sent anywhere.”
Although Louis insisted, Erina still felt confused. If he was innocent, could it be that the goods had problems while they were halfway around the world?
“How many more shipments are about to arrive?” Erina squinted at him.
“One shipment. It will arrive around the middle of next week.”
“Okay, then we'll just wait.”
She smiled, turned around, left the cold storage, and went back to the office.
The headache came again. After a long massage, she decided to go outside to breathe some fresh air to relax her mind. After all, Hubert only cared about the results of the investigation, not forcing her to sit here for eight hours a day.
As soon as he saw Erina leisurely walking out of the main door, Raphael drove over, but she told him to go back and rest and walked to the bus stop herself.
The sweet world covered in natural green is the beauty and unique attraction of summer in B country with shady trees and endless lawns stretching across the outskirts of the city. The pale yellow sunlight adds sweetness to the green.
The girl's feet slowly glided across the grassland, trying to find positive energy for herself.
When she felt light-hearted and the smile had easily returned to the corner of her lips, Erina felt a little hungry.
She glanced around and sat on a wooden chair under the cool trees, took out the cold sandwich she had bought earlier, and enjoyed it.
“Are you eating and drinking like that?”
The man's voice suddenly rang out, startling Erina, almost biting her tongue.
She quickly looked up and saw Kelvin's handsome face, like a statue, staring at her.
“Kelvin, why are you here? Don't tell me you're following me?”
“What? You think I'm like a bum that's why I'm following you around?” He looked up and asked.
“No, I'm just surprised. Or is it because your company is nearby?”
Kelvin smiled lightly, leisurely sitting down beside her. Seeing her sparkling eyes staring at him as if examining him, he explained in a low voice.
The thing is, he had just decided on an important matter at the company today, so he immediately had the idea of inviting her out to celebrate.
Because he wanted to surprise her, he didn't tell her in advance and went straight to the company branch to find her, but unexpectedly found her standing on the side of the road waiting for the bus. After that, he quietly followed her all the way here.
“Happy things should be celebrated with relatives, why are you looking for a stranger like me?” She asked and put the last piece of sandwich in her mouth.
“Erina, some relatives are just like strangers.”
His sad answer made Erina turn to look. Why did wealth complicate the relationships in this golden man's family?
“Kelvin, do you have something to say?” Erina shyly asked.
“Drink some water and then I'll tell you.”
He kindly pushed a bottle of cold mineral water into her hand. At this time, Erina remembered that she had forgotten to buy water.
The moment she brought the bottle to her mouth, a flock of large birds suddenly flew by, and she cheered with joy.
“Kelvin, look. So beautiful.”
“Yes, I see that all the time, migratory birds.” He replied softly.
Next, in a gentle, warm voice mixed with a bit of self-deprecation, Kelvin confided to Erina about his family. However, he still did not say their names.
He was the result of a one-night stand between a wealthy man and a prostitute.
The day his mother discovered she was pregnant, she looked for his father, but because his future wife's family was too powerful, his father was afraid and refused his child.
In the end, the poor mother decided to give birth and raise the child herself.
When Kelvin was eight years old, his mother passed away. When her friends had just finished taking care of her funeral, his father's rich wife appeared and took him home.
The reason she wanted to raise him was because she couldn't have children, so she followed her husband's pleas. She was afraid that he would find another woman because the older a man gets, the more he wants children than his career and material things.
“Since then, I have had a mother and father and have lived in luxury until now.” He smiled bitterly, his hand gently brushing the fallen yellow leaves on his shirt.
“She must have loved your father very much to accept that.” She lowered her head, speaking softly.
“Yes, she also loved me and gave me all her assets to inherit before her death. But do you know? The illness that made her wither away came from the man she trusted with all her heart and his son, she tried her best to preserve everything until the last minute. Both love and hate, that feeling was very uncomfortable.”
Speaking of this, Kelvin's eyes turned red. Erina looked at him and felt sorry for him. He was raised in a wealthy family, he carried on himself the glory and humiliation of that family.
Who would have thought that behind that luxurious and desirable appearance, there was a heart full of hurt and guilt?
“Come on Kelvin, you said there was something happy to celebrate today. What is it?” Erina changed the subject.
“Yeah. I kicked all of my foster mother's relatives out of the company and monopolized it.”
“What...what?” Erina grimaced and stammered.
“You know, who would agree to let a person with no blood ties sit in the highest position and take all the assets? The long-running litigation has come to an end.”
After saying that, Kelvin grabbed Erina and dragged her away. She really didn't know what to make of it, calling this a happy event wasn't exactly accurate. She clearly saw that he was very sad.
Perhaps he didn't want to do that to them, but because he was cornered, he had no choice but to do it.Download Novelah App
