Chapter 27: Penalty

At nearly five in the morning, Erina began to walk down to the foot of the waterfall. Henry was injured and could not practice, so he followed her.
Furthermore, Orson had ordered him to supervise her meditation. He was afraid that as soon as she arrived, it would be very dangerous for her to put her head into the flowing waterfall.
Erina knew that sooner or later she would be soaked to the bone, so she got soaked in the rain instead of using an umbrella with Henry.
Because Henry was trying to heal his wound quickly, he couldn't let his arm get wet. Besides, he wanted to keep the towel dry so that after she finished meditating, he could put it on her to keep her warm.
The waterfall in the rainy season roared with the sound of water pouring down. Even though he and she stood far away from the waterfall, they were still drenched by the mist of water.
Henry placed the towel on the tree roots, covered it with an umbrella, and helped her down to the stream. In the end, he couldn't keep himself dry.
After instructing her to turn her back to the waterfall, waiting for the water to flow from her right shoulder to her left shoulder to her neck and then her whole body, he waded out, leaned against the rock next to her, and watched intently.
The waterfall was very cold today, the strong stream of water pouring down on the girl's slender body seemed to want to wash away all her worries. Erina clenched her teeth, and pursed her lips, trying to endure everything.
After a long time, her spirit began to become empty, the cold and pain gradually faded, and her emotions also became more balanced.
Seeing her immersed in the large stream of water made Henry feel like tens of thousands of knives were cutting his heart.
After thirty minutes of meditation, Erina staggered out, trembling and falling into Henry's arms. He carried her back to the stream bank, wrapped a towel around her, and hugged her tightly.
Erina closed her eyes, trying to catch the warmth from him that was gently spreading to her. When people fall to their lowest point, they will cling to anything in front of them, and she was no exception.
“Young master, I can't walk anymore.” Erina whispered.
“It's okay, I'll take you home.”
He let go of her hand, helped her lie on his back, and carried her back to the top of the mountain. The wind blew the umbrella down the stream, spun around a few times, and then drifted away.
Lying behind Henry's broad back, Erina's tears kept flowing. Why, when she was desperate and weak, the person next to her was always him, not Clement.
Early in the afternoon, Erina had a fever, her whole body was burning hot but her mouth kept complaining about being cold. Although Henry had given her medicine, it didn't seem to have much effect. In the end, he had to ask Orson for help.
Although Orson knew that the female disciple only had a cold because she had been immersed in the waterfall for the first time, Henry was too noisy, so he had to go over to see her to reassure Henry. After checking her pulse, he turned to Henry and spoke.
“In a moment, you go to the garden to get lemongrass leaves, lime leaves, and crushed ginger and boil them for Erina to steam.”
“Master, junior sister is so sick, please remove the punishment. If this continues, I'm afraid something will happen to my junior sister.” Henry knelt down, grabbed Orson's hand, and begged earnestly.
Orson looked from him to Erina and lowered his voice.
“If you can't bear it, then leave the mountain.”
“I can bear it, master, I don't want to go down the mountain.” Erina continuously shook her head, hot tears welling up in her eyes.
Orson nodded slightly, slowly stood up, and walked towards the door. Henry pursed his lips tightly, he didn't expect him to be so hard-hearted. He was heartbroken because of her, then angry with his master, and then angry with himself.
“Please sleep for a while. I'll wake you up after I've cooked the herbal water.”
Henry pulled the blanket up to Erina's neck and quickly turned his back. She tried to keep an eye on him until his shadow disappeared before closing her eyes. She felt extremely guilty for the trouble she caused, but in the end, he was the one who suffered.
All night long, Henry did not leave Erina's bed, every few seconds, every few minutes he would touch her forehead once. It wasn't until dawn that he put his head down and fell asleep right next to her. The heavy rain of July lasted endlessly, silently lingering.
Erina woke up from a long sleep and felt a warm hand resting on hers. She glanced over and saw the man's hair fluttering slightly because of the thin wind coming through the crack in the door.
She lifted his hand up and put it down, then tiptoed out of bed, picked up the blanket and gently covered his shoulders.
Thanks to that pot of herbal water, she felt better today, and her head was no longer hot.
When Henry woke up, there was only him in the room, the gentle scent still lingering around him. Outside, the rain was still falling, the wind was still blowing.
Thinking of Erina's appearance when she had just stepped out of the cold waterfall, he decided that he would take her home today.
Henry's footsteps hurriedly ran on the slippery slope. As soon as he saw Erina's figure walking slowly ahead, he quickly rushed forward and lifted her off the ground.
“Young master, what are you doing?” She looked at him with wide eyes.
“We don't need to learn martial arts anymore, and you don't need to go to country B anymore.” Henry replied while walking quickly.
Erina was stunned for a few seconds. Then, as if she understood everything, she kept telling Henry to put her down. Ignoring her screams, he pretended to be deaf and mute and continued walking.
Not knowing how to make the stubborn guy stop, she struggled hard.
After a while of trying to hold her, he lost his grip and dropped her on the slippery leaves, causing her to roll around several times.
“Erina, Erina, are you okay? I'm sorry, please forgive me.”
Henry rushed to help her, his mouth continuously saying sorry. He thought she would scream and cry, but surprisingly, she just sniffled and replied briefly.
“I'm fine.”
“Erina, you'd rather suffer than become my wife, huh?” Henry's voice became weaker, his eyes filled with sadness stared at her.
Every time she met this gaze, she felt like a criminal being dragged to court even though she had done nothing wrong. After all, the entire series of tragedies were caused by Hubert to her, Clement, and his beloved son.
“Young master, I don't want to run away from my mistakes. If I do something wrong, I have to be punished. If I commit a crime, I have to pay for it. Moreover, I really like learning martial arts.” Erina explained softly.
The plan failed, so he gently nodded, helped her stand up, and led her down to the foot of the waterfall. Both of them did not understand since when the hand holding between the two of them had become so natural.
After warming up as Henry instructed, Erina waded into the waterfall by herself. He climbed onto a nearby rock and sat still as a statue, looking at her.
Today, she meditated longer, the feeling of fear and anxiety gradually passed, leaving only refreshment and peace. After finishing the meditation, she happily walked out of the waterfall, smiling as if to tell the person sitting on the rock that she was fine.
“Erina, wait until we get down the mountain, every afternoon when you finish school early or on weekends, come with me to the shooting range.” Henry pulled her up to the stream bank and suggested.
“Why do I have to learn to shoot? I'm very afraid of guns and bullets.” Erina frowned.
“Don't you know that the place you're going to is allowed to use guns freely? Country B is not like country X.”
After speaking, Henry grabbed her hand and pulled her away. Although he had prepared carefully for her safety in a foreign land, he was still worried. It was better for her to protect herself than to rely on others.
“You worry too much. I go there to work, not to cause trouble. I don't like shooting people.” Erina said as she walked.
“I'm not afraid of you shooting other people, I'm only afraid of other people shooting you.” He turned his head and glared at her.
Erina didn't know why, but seeing him like this made her want to tease him even more, making him explode.
“Okay, okay, then please instruct me more, young master. But will your class time match mine?”
“At most, I will put my study results on hold to follow you.”
Hearing Henry's resolute voice, Erina stopped nagging and silently walked beside him. She understood that he showed such an attitude because he was worried about her. She didn't know if Hubert's vicious, unscrupulous genes would rise up in him in the future.
After several rains, the Rhododendron flowers had faded. She could not fulfill her promise to go to the waterfall with Clement to enjoy the scenery before the rain. She would have to make an appointment with him next flower season.
Clement said that the Rhododendron and the Rhododendron bird were always linked together in legend, but she had never seen a Rhododendron bird hanging around here. She guessed that perhaps it was afraid of being eaten by people like Henry, so it abandoned the flower.
At this moment, Erina suddenly craved bamboo shoots, but she was afraid that Henry would dig them with his hands and fall into the stream, so she tried to swallow her saliva and suppress her craving.
Compared to Clement, a mature person who thought ahead and acted accordingly, Henry always acted on his emotions, doing what he liked and running away when he was angry, without caring about the consequences.
The sunlight glimmered through the gray clouds, lighting up a fragile hope after the stormy day. Seeing the white mushrooms emerging from the mound, Erina happily shouted.
“Mushrooms, young master, stop, stop quickly.”
Looking at her face which looked exactly like a child, Henry couldn't help but laugh.  He nodded slightly, led her there, and pulled out the mushrooms together. On a rainy day, a plate of hot stir-fried mushrooms eaten with rice is the best.
