Chapter 31: Dance of Love

The quiet and deserted space on the road leading to the villa made the moment of farewell even more lingering. Erina held Clement's hand, gently caressing each of his fingers. She wondered why time passed so quickly today, in the blink of an eye, a day had passed.
If possible, she wished she had the superpower to make the day longer than the night so she could stay by his side a little longer.
The taxi stopped in front of the lavishly carved gate. Erina sadly wished Clement good night, kissed him lightly on the cheek, then pushed the car door open and got out. She stood there silently watching for a while, waiting for the two red lights at the back of the car to disappear before turning around and walking over to ring the bell.
Seeing her, Lucia and the maids were overjoyed. After determining that she had had dinner and didn't need anything else, they bowed and hurriedly went back to their room.
Erina bent down to take off her shoes, took the slippers that Henry bought, and put them on. Before, she felt normal when she went barefoot, but after wearing slippers for a few days, it became a habit. If she didn't wear them, she would feel cold and creepy.
When passing the dining room, Erina stopped by the refrigerator to put the fruit bag in and was startled when she saw a dark shadow sitting right next to the table.
“Are you back?”
When the voice rang out, Erina realized it was Henry, she hurriedly ran to turn on the light switch. Under the light, she saw his face was slightly red, and the smell of alcohol he often drank still lingered in the air.
“Young master, why aren't you sleeping yet?” She asked as she pulled out a chair to sit opposite him.
“I'm waiting for you. Erina, did you have fun today?” Henry looked at her with sad eyes, his voice soft.
The question made Erina a little flustered. Immediately after, she quickly regained her composure, smiling and nodding. Seeing the bag of fried corn cakes on the table, she unconsciously raised her head to look at him.
“I bought them. I remember when you were a kid, you loved fried corn cakes. I'm not sure if you still want them now, but I still bought them.”
Henry pushed the bag closer to her clenched hands. Erina took it with trembling hands. It had been a long time since she had enjoyed this commemorative cake. She liked fried corn cakes because it was the last dish her mother made for her before she passed away.
Tears as clear as sparkling crystal flowed from her eyes, silently falling onto the wooden table.
“I want to eat it, but I haven't seen anyone selling it recently.” She replied softly.
“Then you should eat quickly.” He gently urged.
Erina nodded, taking a cake and putting it in her mouth. Lucia can also prepare this cake, but after Hubert went abroad to have laryngeal surgery, he was allergic to corn, so he did not want anything made from corn to appear in the kitchen.
So, when they went out, Lucia would follow Erina's wishes and stop by a roadside stall to buy some, then wait for her to finish eating before returning home.
Seeing him staring at her, she took the initiative to tell him why she liked this humble cake.
Henry silently listened to Erina's every word. He didn't expect that the cake she liked was associated with such a painful memory. He didn't know that his good intentions had evoked sadness in her.
“Erina, don't be sad, at least you were loved by your mother until the last moment of her life. Do you know? After the fire on the yacht, although my father went abroad for psychological treatment for a while, when he returned he was still cold towards my mother. My mother was so sad that she neglected me until she died...”
Before he could finish his words, his throat suddenly became choked, his face bowed. Erina quickly stood up and walked next to him. Her slender hand gently placed on his slightly trembling shoulders and slowly hugged him. He laid his head in her lap to find comfort.
The image of the poor boy from the past suddenly appeared in her mind, making her feel sorry for him. How desperate must he be to put all his strength into clinging to a stranger and until now he still doesn't want to let go.
After a while, feeling that this position was a bit strange, Erina pushed him away. Just now in her eyes, he was just a child, not a grown man, so she forgot that she needed to keep her distance from him.
“I've been in the mountains for a few months so I'm used to it, but now that I'm back here, I feel so cramped. Would you like to take a walk and get some fresh air?”
Because Erina didn't know how to explain the sudden push, she blurted out the invitation. As a result, Henry's eyes lit up like fireflies, he nodded repeatedly and jumped up, grabbed her, and pulled her away quickly.
After walking through the marble path, they came to the green grass near the swing and sat down, leisurely looking up at the vast sky. The peaceful moonlight drifted behind the clouds.
The memories of their childhood stretched out to wake up, bringing both Henry and Erina along with the shimmering golden moonlight back to distant memories.
The gentle wind stopped teasing the leaves, swooping down and blowing into her hair. Henry could smell the smoke from the roadside barbecue restaurant still lingering on her head.
“Erina, let's dance together.” He turned to her, earnestly suggesting.
“Why did you suddenly…” Erina looked at him, hesitant and embarrassed.
“Please agree.”
She bit her lip for a long time before nodding slightly. Honestly, his request was not too much, instead of practicing martial arts together, they would dance together now. It's all the same.
Henry quickly took out his phone, turned on the music, then gently intertwined one hand with hers, the other hand placed behind her thin back.
Although Erina felt a bit uncomfortable, she still tried to stay calm, her steps gracefully dancing along with him in the melodious music.
The dreamy moon hung on the towering treetops, silently watching the couple dance together to the sweet music. The moment Erina spun around, her graceful figure, fragile silk skirt fluttering, and silky hair made Henry completely fall into a sea of passionate love.
When he welcomed her back into his arms, he stopped dancing and just held her tightly, admiring her.
Her eyes sparkled like a shining star and the delicate features of the girl's face made his emotions rise. At this moment, he lost control and leaned down to kiss her pink lips.
Erina panicked and turned her head away. She felt that she was very wrong. When she knew his feelings for her, she should have refused such intimate contact. He was a man, so it was hard to avoid acting on instinct.
“I... I'm so sleepy.”
Erina stuttered and broke free from his hand, running straight into the house. Fear overwhelmed her mind, her heart seemed to want to jump out of her chest.
“Erina, you…”
The sound of her footsteps was far away, but Henry just stood there dumbfounded. His arms were still stretched out into the space ahead. She had the heart to abandon him in his lonely humiliation.
“Erina, are you scared of me or do you hate me?”
Following the question, hot tears fell. He was as cold and indifferent when facing others as he was quick to cry and vulnerable because of her.
Sometimes he wanted to be strong and mature so that she would feel secure enough to lean on him so that he could protect her, but because she always looked towards that man, he forced himself to become weak and small in the hope that she would comfort and embrace him.
The fleeting moment of happiness quickly turned into the past, and the late-night dew shattered. Tonight, his desolate heart continued to pile up the pain.
Henry turned around, looking up at the window above, where there was no light. He secretly laughed and mocked himself. How could he hope that she would look back at him with pity?
Years passed, and he was busy following her footsteps, gathering pieces of love that were not born from love but from pity.
The moment Henry turned away, the curtain on the second-floor window suddenly opened. Erina quietly watched the shaky figure walking slowly along the marble path.
The dark clouds covering the moon gradually became heavier and then the last raindrops of the rainy season fell on the garden of memories.
“I'm sorry, I hope that time and the truth will help you erase my image.”
After saying those words just for herself to hear, she let go of the curtain and leaned her back against the wall, tears suddenly flowing non-stop.
In the future, if he discovered that there was a deep hatred between the person he loved and his father, what would he do?
Perhaps he would choose to side with Hubert, and even confront her to protect him. Blood is thicker than water, she and he are just strangers with no blood relation. The love he gave her would eventually turn into hatred.
Erina's mind was filled with thoughts and chaotic calculations that made her extremely tired. Taking a small mat and spreading it on the floor, she sat down and began to meditate to temporarily forget everything.
If everyone knew in advance that their lives would be filled with suffering, how many people would want to be born? They would rather not appear in this world.
