Chapter 6 WAKE UP!
RIVER'S FLOWS IN YOU MELODY...
MY VACATION AFTER MY GRADUATION IN GRADE SIX
As I played the piano, my new furry companion delightedly frolicked around. In this lively interaction, I discovered not only a new friend but also a sense of family. The weight that once burdened me seemed to dissipate, and the mornings became a ritual of jogging with my playful puppy, followed by a satisfying meal.
Daisy, adorned in a white jacket like mine, joined me one morning. "You really love to eat everywhere," she remarked.
"Yeah, I can't live without it. Want some cookies?" I offered.
Nick Gregory's comment, laced with irony, interrupted our casual exchange, but I chose silence over engagement. Behind him, other boys joined in, making derogatory remarks about Daisy being my "pet" and resorting to name-calling.
Mason, a tall and well-built boy, took a cruel jab, calling Daisy a piglet. Daisy, standing up for kindness, retorted against such inhuman remarks.
"What brings you here?" I asked fearlessly, knowing Nick's intentions.
"For you to punish," Gregory smirked, initiating his routine of dragging me to the ground. Mason delivered a brutal kick, and others followed suit, leaving me tasting the bitterness of blood.
Daisy's strong protests fell on deaf ears, and as a last resort, she threatened to call her father. The situation escalated to the point where someone suggested calling 911, and Mr. Nero's name echoed in the chaos.
When I finally regained consciousness, my surroundings were a sea of white, rain pouring outside. The thunderous sounds felt like a tumult in my brain. A surge of fear paralyzed me—should I flee from Nick Gregory, a source of my torment?
Concerned, my mother questioned my well-being, worrying about the persistent bullying from Nick Gregory.
"That's why I want to rebuild my body, channeling all my energy, attempting to change. Perhaps I didn't follow the SMART steps correctly, and that's why I failed," I confessed, my resolve unbroken.
Suddenly, the thought of Daisy Lunaire crossed my mind. "I should contact Daisy. Is she my savior?" I reached for the phone and dialed her number.
"It's 2:00 A.M., son," my father reminded me, clad in royal blue sleepwear.
I glanced at the wall clock, realizing the late hour. Time seemed to warp during moments of waiting. My mother offered me water, and my hunger compelled me to request food. Although I tried to rest, the restlessness persisted, leading me to engage in a silent conversation with the moon, expressing my readiness for any alterations in my life.
The next discovery awaited me in the form of a book borrowed from my grandfather. Epictetus, a former slave, wielded words that transformed him into a powerful force. His wisdom beckoned, offering a potential path to resilience and change.
THE BELL IS RINGING...
THE TWO GRADE 7TH STUDENTS
As Lawrenz was lost in thoughts about his journey of change, a gentle knock on the door interrupted his reflections. Dawn Scarlet, a fellow book enthusiast, greeted him. The connection they shared through their love of literature created a comforting bond.
"Hey Lawrenz, mind if I join your contemplation?" Dawn's warm voice and caring eyes showed genuine concern.
"Absolutely, Dawn. Come on in," Lawrenz welcomed her with a faint but friendly smile. Dawn's presence felt like a welcome break from his own musings.
Taking a seat, Dawn observed the room filled with shelves of books. "Books seem to be your go-to place for peace, right?"
Lawrenz nodded, affirming the sentiment. "Absolutely. They've been my escape, a place where my imagination can thrive without judgment."
Their conversation drifted through the paths of shared interests, unraveling stories of resilience and passion. Dawn's insightful intellect explored the complexities of characters, creating a dialogue within their dialogue.
"It's amazing, isn't it?" Dawn's eyes lit up. "How literature can break boundaries, shape perspectives, and spark empathy."
Lawrenz agreed, expressing his admiration for the power of words. "Indeed, it's a realm where judgment fades away, and you find connection in the diverse stories."
THE ALARM CLOCK IS RINGING...
Lawrenz awoke early on his first day of school as an eighth-grade student. He reached out to silence the persistent alarm clock that refused to stop ringing. It was barely 5:00 A.M., yet Lawrenz diligently began preparing everything he needed for the day ahead.
As the school bell chimed its arrival, Lawrenz, eager to avoid lunchtime, made his way to the basketball court to practice. However, his plans took an unexpected turn when Nick Gregory, armed with a baseball bat, struck Lawrenz forcefully in the back.
THE BELL IS RINGING...
"Lawrenz, have you heard? Nick's stirring trouble again," Dash blurted out, concern etched across her face.
Lawrenz furrowed his brow, memories of past altercations with Nick Gregory flooding back. "What's he up to now?"
"He's been spreading rumors, targeting you specifically," Dash revealed, her eyes reflecting a mix of worry and frustration.
Lawrenz's jaw clenched, a blend of frustration and exasperation overcoming him. The weight of past confrontations lingered, his resolve tested once more by Nick's persistent bullying.
BELL IS RINGING...
LAWRENZ' 10TH GRADE
The rain pattered on the window, creating a serene ambiance as the professor attempted to delve into the day's lesson. However, Sarah’s sudden suggestion disrupted the tranquility.
"Lawrenz should lead us. He has my vote for class mayor," Sarah proposed, surprising Lawrenz as he hadn’t realized there was a new election underway.
"I object," Lawrenz firmly declared, dismissing the notion. Sarah’s smile lingered, but Lawrenz chose to ignore it. After class, he retrieved his jacket from the locker, joining his classmates in the parking lot.
Unexpectedly, someone grabbed his arm near the swimming area. "Sarah, are you following me?" Lawrenz inquired, only to be stunned when she unexpectedly kissed him, prompting him to push her away.
"Are you insane?" he exclaimed.
"Why do you keep asking? Isn't it thrilling?" Sarah's erratic behavior left Lawrenz bewildered. Once, when he was overweight, she had criticized his appearance. Now, she seemed unpredictable.
"Fine," Lawrenz acquiesced. "Thrilling, isn't it? Sorry, but I don't fancy unpleasant encounters."
"What!" Sarah became hysterical, and Lawrenz swiftly retreated, leaving her fuming.
At home, he stumbled upon his parents embroiled in a heated argument, their financial troubles exacerbating their relationship. He sought solace in a family photo, embracing its familiarity, and quietly entered the house.
The classroom conversations were varied, from crime discussions to philosophical musings. Angelo, a classmate fascinated with crime stories, often engaged Lawrenz in these debates.
"Memento mori," Lawrenz mused aloud.
"Memento vivere," Angelo replied. "Do you know Eudaimonia? And Euthanasia?" Angelo questioned, provoking Lawrenz's curiosity.
While sitting in the ancient theater on the school stage, Angelo cryptically hinted at impending danger. Lawrenz felt a foreboding sense that something ominous loomed on the horizon.
As Daisy, Lawrenz's girlfriend, called, asking to meet at the school's stadium, Lawrenz glanced at Angelo, who declined to join them.
In the hospital, Lawrenz lay motionless, hooked to life support. His grandfather sat by his side, hoping for a response. "We're waiting for you, Lawrenz," he whispered, witnessing the slightest movements in Lawrenz's fingers.
Outside the hospital, Nurse Sarah attended to another patient, and Doctor Angelo arrived, their paths entwined with Lawrenz's fate.
In the dimly lit hospital room, Lawrenz lay in a seemingly eternal slumber. His family stood by his bedside, grappling with the unending wait for any sign of awakening. The monitors beeped rhythmically, a faint echo in the otherwise silent room.
"Lawrenz, it's been years. Please, wake up," his mother whispered, her voice tinged with desperation.
The doctors had exhausted all possibilities, yet Lawrenz remained in a comatose state, defying the medical prognosis. His mind wandered in a world untethered from reality, traversing through memories and emotions.
In his subconscious, vivid recollections replayed – from the days of relentless bullying to the transformations he had undergone, emerging from the shadows of insecurity to the pinnacle of confidence.
Within this reverie, Lawrenz grappled with the weight of the past, contemplating his odyssey. He pondered over the pivotal moments, the people who shaped his life, and the unforeseen events that led him to this crucial juncture.
Back in reality, the hospital corridor bustled with activity. Nurses hurried along the corridors attending to their duties, while families, lost in their own silent anguish, passed each other with unspoken understanding.
Dr. Angelo shuffled through the halls, contemplating the enigmatic circumstances surrounding Lawrenz's condition. Nurse Sarah, too, crossed his path, engrossed in her own thoughts.
Meanwhile, Lawrenz's grandfather sat vigilantly in the room, a stoic figure amidst the whirlwind of emotions. His steadfast faith in Lawrenz's recovery was a beacon of hope amid the uncertainty.
The hospital walls bore witness to the complexities of life, intertwining fate, and the unyielding passage of time. Lawrenz's fate remained suspended between consciousness and the elusive realm of the subconscious.Download Novelah App
