CHAPTER 22
It was a silent meal. There’s a tension between the two. So, we didn’t utter a single word. I too, don’t have an energy to eat even if the food is delicious.
“I’ll tour you around the village”
Nanny suddenly uttered that I lifted my head as well as my mood. I smiled at them. I’m done eating first because I’m the only one who didn’t take a bath and I need to hurry because we will come along with Dairy who will go to her school.
Meanwhile, at the table. Everyone was looking at each other.
“The Lady seems depressed”
“You noticed too?”
“I saw big sister crying”
Amelia hush down Dairy. She thought that it would be rude to tell them.
“Is that so?”
“Yes, mama”
“It would be best that you two refrain your arguments for now, we don’t want that child to be unhappy. Remember her purpose coming here, right? Scarlet?”
Scarlet just nodded and glared Sebastian. She gestures to zip his mouth on the entire tour.
I submerged myself to the water. That nightmare or should I say my past keeps haunting me. I can’t move on from something torturous like that. I’m trying myself to enjoy my new life but still, those times keeps passing to my mind. It seems that I was cursed by them. I've felt that wherever I'll go the pain will always follow.
I gently gone out to the water as I’m taking too long. I don’t want them to keep waiting for me. I wear a checkered pink dress and underneath is a blouse. I dried my hair with a towel. After that, I comb my hair.
I go out to the bathroom. I walked in the living room and saw them waiting for me in there.
“Shall we go?”
“Big Sister? Wear this”
Dairy handed me a pink ribbon headband. I squat down so that she can put them on.
“Thank you”
“I hope Big Sister will cheer up”
I smiled at her and patted her head. I stood up; she holds my hand. We walked outside. My nanny locked the door. We walked down to the village because, Sir Frets is there waiting.
As soon as we arrived to the stable. I saw a medieval low-poly carriage. It’s like a box vehicle that made up of wood. Sebastian carried Dairy inside then he offer his hand to help the others jumped in. Nanny and Sir Frets are on the front. I was seated behind nanny, then Dairy and Amelia is on my side, while across of me is Scarlet and Sebastian.
“You naughty boy!”
I heard someone screamed with a hoarse voice. We turned our attention to its direction and saw an old man with a cane running towards us.
“Grandfather, why are you here?”
“I was looking for you, you didn’t tell me you’re going to your bride”
“No, no, grandfather. We will now leave to the town”
“All right, I tell your father to visit the Frets with a lot of gifts”
“W…what? No, grandfather, no need to do that”
“Are you keeping silence again about your lover?”
“Grandfather, we will talk about this when I’m going home”
“Okay! Get me some grandsons while I’m still alive”
Sebastian put his palms on his forehead while shaking his head. He lifts his head, looked at the direction where his grandfather is and waved goodbye. The carriage also, starts to move.
“I apologized for that”
“Hoho, it’s okay. You should give them a baby, right? Scarlet?”
“What does that have something to do with me?”
“Is Big Sister, having a baby?”
“No, no. Big Sister is single and that’s far from the truth”
“Well, if my daughter would be pregnant by Sebastian child, it would be handsome or beautiful. Don’t you think, dear?”
“MOM! Stop that!”
“I think it’s more appropriate, getting married first, than a baby”
“Dad! Stop that all of you!”
The two of them is blushing. It can’t be helped. Nanny keep teasing them, but she stops when Scarlet was very annoyed.
The breeze was so cold, it touched my body. It was refreshing, it has an earthly smell. There are many fields and crops we passed. A barns and herd of sheeps. There’s a lot of people complimenting and greeting us. They only knew that I’m the friend of Scarlet not a Lady which is very good.
Some people gave us vegetables as to welcome ourselves. We hesitated to accept them at first, but they insisted it. The people here are so kind. I’m overwhelmed.
Nanny and Sir Frets share their experiences and stories. How the two of us met for the first time, how Sir Frets courted Nanny. There’s a lot of spring that we have passed by, one of them Nanny told us to stay away. It’s said that people gone missing after swimming there, some of them told us that some unknown creature will pull you down to the water. So, we must avoid that lake at all costs.
There’s a fall too. There are bird singing when we enter the forests. Luckily, we didn’t spot ferocious animal. Nanny told us that it’s rare to see that in here but, snakes are everywhere we still need to be careful.
After we deliver Dairy in her school. It’s only a two-story building but, it has a wide area that allows children to run or even play soccer in that area. I don’t know if soccer exists in here.
Nanny told us that there are only few children had the privileged to go to school. There are few facilities in here. I’m thankful for the Duke Marcox on implementing schools to different islands but, it’s only limited on their territory. Other governments, didn’t accept his proposals thus, he did it on his own accord with the help of his majesty.
It’s rare for me hearing my father’s achievements. There’s no description of him aside, from his death when Chantria was young.
We are arrived on the public market. There are tons of vendors and people as well.
“Brace yourself because this is war”
“What do you mean, nanny?”
She didn’t even say a word. Next thing, I knew. I’m in front of the meat’s shop with lots of people bargaining as well as grabbing the product.
This is literally war. It means whoever grabbed the product first, will be her/his. After all, today is the day where all of the shops had discounted items.
