Chapter 45 : Shadow Mission-Rescue

Once they made camp, Brandon sat opposite the camp fire looking at Levi who still hadn't said anything.
"Are you really that pissed?" Brandon asked.
"What wouldn't I be? you were helping the enemy, we could have died" Levi yelled.
"Woah, calm down, they obviously defected from the enemy side or possibly never were on the enemy side" Brandon replied.
"Oh so now you are an expert on the foreign race, I have lost friends, family to elves just like these" Levi said.
"And so you decided to hate all elves for that, tell me something, if a human being stole or took someone from you, would you hate all humans?" Brandon asked.
"What are you saying? this isn't about humans, this is about the foreign race" Levi yelled.
"You are right, it's about how for generations, individuals from both sides have been raised with hatred against each other for sins some of their ancestors committed that got generalized on them all, if you can't hate all of them for the action of a few, stop being so narrow minded and biased by hating the entire foreign races for the action of those you met at war" Brandon yelled back.
"I get that you have lost people to the war but if we all keep look at each other with blood thirst and anger, this war will not end till we wipe out each other, you saw the condition of those elves,we both know that between us both, those elves would have been easy pickings" Brandon added.
"Oh so we should treat them nicely if they look poor and unkept? listen to yourself" Levi said.
"You are obviously talking from a place of hurt, I won't bother arguing any further with you all I will say is, if a blade is raised to my neck, I will only fight those holding the blade not the innocent bystanders witnessing the scene" Brandon said before walking out.
"Huh" Levi yelled as he punched a nearby tree.
"Well, that was intense" Ian said.
"Yeah, I guess the war has taken a toll on him" Brandon replied.
"I just wish he saw things from my point of view" Brandon added.
"The eye of a Phoenix or the eye of a child with hope in his heart? Ian asked.
"Phoenix? seriously?" Brandon scoffed.
"I'm just kidding, not everyone will see things from your point of view, like you said, he was raised differently, he probably witnessed people losing their love ones to the war while growing up, you can't blame for being the way he is" Ian said.
"You are right, I should go apologize" Brandon said.
He walked back to the camp, Levi laid on next to a tree, whistling a melody soothing to the ear, Brandon took a sat at the other side of the tree.
"I'm sorry about how I said, what I said, I don't blame you for being hesitate to them like you said, you have lost a lot of people to them but, I believe not all are bad, neither of us have fully explored the territories occupied by the foreign races so I won't assume they are all bad" Brandon said.q
"I'm sorry too, maybe you are right but, you can't expect me to act the way you do around them, I have lost too much to them for me to easily see them in good light" Levi replied.
"I would like to hear the end the story, the one you were telling me before the elves almost found us" Brandon said.
"I thought you weren't interested" Levi said.
"I never specifically said that" Brandon replied.
"You sly little bird, very well" Levi said.
__________FLASHBACK_____________
As we approached the enemy camp, I was in high spirits, my record so far was flawless, I hadn't lost a single teammate on a mission so I was feeling cocky. To our surprise, the enemy camp was empty. Tade instantly suggested that we leave immediately but I told him he was overreacting, I told him that he being to cautious for a mage that could creating protective force fields out of nowhere but then, disaster struck, the ground stated shaking and a rock slide was coming towards us from every direction, most of my teammates didn't have abilities and would help them escape, our earth mage wouldn't be able to stop it all at once, we were a few moments from our dooms when the rocks suddenly stopped and began piling up around us, it was then we realized that Tade was using his ability but the rocks just kept on coming, blood started dripping out his nose and the corner of his lips, flying out a hole in the force field he opened up for me, I saw dark druids standing on the top of the mountains surrounding the valley, there was no camouflage, no hiding place, so if we had just done even a drone sweep, we would have spotted them.
I quickly took them out stopping the rock slide, when I got back to the team who were climbing up the mountain, they had climbed out a hole Tade opened up for them, the cracked force field had almost been covered in rocks. I could see his body already trembling.
"Just hang in there Tade, I will get help" I said.
"No, it's too late, I have already used way more spiritual energy than I should, the moment I stop, you know what will happen to my body, there won't be anything left to rescue" Tade replied.
"No, you can't die like this, we already made our bucket list for next year" I said barely holding back my tears.
"Don't worry, Nicholas will be moving into the senior dorm next year, you can still do the things on the list with him" Tade replied
"No, don't you dare, just open a hole, I can get you out" I pleaded.
Up until this moment, he hadn't looked at me but the moment he did, I felt my soul leave my body, he was bleeding from his eyes, nose and mouth, he was in great pain but he still smiled at me.
"On my grave stone let them write 'The small town boy with a big heart went out with a bigger bang'" Tade said.
"There has to be a way" I said.
"There isn't, can we say one last time?" He asked.
"Yes, sure" I replied.
"Levite Simon and Tade David, bond brothers, past, present, future and in the countless life times to come" We chorused.
"Now go" He coughed.
The last thing I remember was the sound of the force field as it shattered, I blacked out right after.
When I came back to it, I was surrounded by my teammates, from what they said I was out for fifteen minutes, the wind mage had managed to whisked my body up when the force field shattered.
They asked how I was feeling but, I asked them to scout the area around the military convoy, luckily, they had not been attacked but the enemies were closing in on them, I ordered them into action immediately.
The convoy didn't even know, they would have been attacked until they got to their destination, we were given a five star mark for our mission success, my teammates were jubilating but I wasn't moved, I would rather have a one star mark on the mission and Tade still alive than this, not wanting to spoil their mood I quietly left their presence.
_______________________________
Silence followed as Levi concluded his story, Brandon was so attentive to the story that he imagined it happening to he and Bruce, the pain he felt in his chest was immense.
"You still there, Brand?" Levi asked.
"Yes senior, I was just speechless, the fact that you carried on the way you are doing now, you have earned my respect though it probably doesn't mean anything to you" Brandon replied.
"Firstly, just Levi is fine, 2nd, it means more than you know, I hope you will come to me for help of you ever need it" Levi said.
"Sure, should we go find the elves now?we are supposed to monitor them till it's time to return to school" Brandon asked but got no response.
"Levi, you there?" Brandon asked.
He checked the other side of the tree but Levi was gone.
"Not good" Brandon said.
He spread his senses around, he felt the presence of some individuals surrounding Levi on a mountain top far off with a good view of where Levi was seated.
"It's either a demon mage or dark druid, they must have used a spell to teleport him from there because they'd know you can sense them" Ian said.
"Well, they made a big mistake" Brandon said.
He was about to blast off when someone called to him.
"Wait!!" The voice said.
Turning around he saw the group of elves they had helped earlier.
"If you're here to attack me, now is not really a convenient time" Brandon said.
"We aren't here to attack you, our tracker sensed dark magic was used on someone here and judging by your current demeanor, I'm guessing it's your friend, we want to help you rescue him" The leader said.
"Alright, let's go" Brandon said.
They moved swiftly towards the mountains, hoping to get there before the abductors escaped.
At the base of the mountains, Brandon spread his senses, the abductors were moving but with they would be able to catch up of fast enough.
"I'm going ahead, I have to stall them in case they have a way to teleport off the planet" Brandon said before blasting off.
"Well let's hurry up, Nneva lock unto their energy and move ahead we will be right behind you" The leader said.
Brandon flew high up in the sky so he wouldn't be easily spotted, he could see the group that abducted Levi.
-
Name : Demon of bloodlust (warrior)
Tier : Emperor tier
Description: Believed to be spawns of the most potent form of chaos energy, they strive for bloodlust and devastation.
-
Name : Dark Druids
Rank : Emperor tier
Description: Opposite of regular druids, they enhance their powers through human sacrifice and dark rituals.
-
"Time to invent something new" Brandon said.
Levi was laying conveniently as he was been carried along, they had tied him down with some wierd vines that sapped his energy when he tried to use his ability.
"Hurry up, this is getting inconvenient" Levi mumbled.
"Shut up you filthy humans" A demon ordered.
"Ignore the prisoner, our new orders are to lure in the boy and take him out, after that you can do whatever you want with him" Another demon who appeared to be leading the group said.
"It's only a matter of time" The first demon growled.
Levi then noticed what looked like a shooting star in the sky.
"That star can't really be moving, unless" Levi thought to himself, he closed his eyes and as he predicted, a few seconds later, a loud bang accompanied by an outburst of heat rocked the area.
Levi felt the vines loosen up, he quickly got on his feet as he pulled it off him, looking ahead, he could see Brandon standing off the body of the dark druid which was barely moving.
The demons around quickly surrounded the two of them.
"There's a lot of them" Levi said.
"Twenty to be precise" Brandon stated.
"Sooo we are toast" Levi said.
"No, we are okay" Brandon replied.
He pulled out his bow staff seemingly waiting for something, the next moment, he pulled Levi close and spun his staff above their heads while using his ability to create a spinning shield of fire.
A rain of arrows descended on the area striking down some unsuspecting demons, once it stopped, Brandon and Levi wasted no time attacking the others.
"I see you found back up" Levi said.
"Actually, backup found me" Brandon replied.
They were soon joined by the elves and soon the enemies were taken care of.
"Thank you for helping him rescue well me" Levi said.
"We were just returning a favour, we would have be wiped out if you hadn't helped use back there" The leader replied.
"Not to mention, whatever your friend did save my son, we were able to treat the remains of the venom is his system" the leader replied.
"So what happens now?" Brandon asked.
"We were hoping to form an alliance with you, the demons won't stop coming after us" the leader said.
"maybe you deserve it, after all I'm sure you helped them kill humans" Levi replied.
"Dude!!" Brandon said.
"It's alright young one, it's true that some humans have met their end by our hands but we did so believing we were buying our enslaved kin their freedom but the demon king had killed them the very day they were captured, when we found out, we left but they didn't take it well" The leader. replied.
"He's telling the truth up to a point" Brandon said as his eyes turned red.
"There was always a part of you that knew they would be dead but, you ignored it, hoping and praying it wouldn't be true" Brandon said.
"That is correct, I knew of the demon King's reputation but when they gave us the offer, I forced myself to believe our love ones would still be alive" The leader said.
"Well, why Should we trust you?" Levi asked.
"My name is Lev'ion, we have nothing to offer other than our sweat and blood to any cause you set before us" The leader said.
The other elves followed in that order as their leader.
"It's a sacred pledging ritual amongst the elves, only ever sworn to their rulers, it's an unbreakable oath" Ian explained.
"We can trust them" Brandon said.
Levi gave Brandon a strange look.
Brandon then explained what Ian had told him to Levi, the elves and Levi himself were shocked on how Brandon came to know about this.
"Well even at that, it's going to be complicated" Levi said before explaining that they were from the human military.
"The highest I can do is that they take you to a good prison for questioning and when they believe you are telling the truth which will take a while, they will probably make you secret allies. Oh when I say good prison, I mean a highly secured structure where you will be safe from the demon king" Levi explained.
"Okay, Dena, you, Nneva and Arus have to keep going, with the army wiped out you should be able to make it to the pin unharmed" Lev'ion said.
"In this weather with those supplies, they wouldn't survive long here" Brandon said.
"They are the youngest amongst us, I refuse toet them waste their youth as prisoners" Lev'ion replied.
"Okay, Levi, the pick up won't be here until tomorrow right?" Brandon asked.
"Yeah, what do you plan on doing?" Levi replied.
"I will escort the three young elves as far as I can, you stay with the adults, let them tell you everything they know about the demon king and his army, that should help their case before the military" Brandon said.
"You can do that after we get some rest, we have had a rough past hours, the young elves probably won't make it far before passing out" Levi explained.
After a few hours of rest, Lev'ion walked to where Dena and Arus were speaking with Brandon.
"Listen young ones, it's going to be tough out there but I need you all to stay together, have each other's back, even when you disagree, may the moons light shine upon you" Lev'ion said.
"I promise you, they will be alright" Brandon said.
"I appreciate your enthusiasm young one, you should get going now if you are going to make it, the military might decide to claim this planet" Lev'ion said.
The trio left the area with Brandon walking towards the far north.
"I know what you are thinking Brandon" Ian said.
"We can't just leave them out here, they could die" Brandon replied.
"Well, I am not supposed to influence your decision but let me leave you with this piece of advice, you can't save them all" Ian said.
"I know, which is why I am saving the ones I can" Brandon replied.
The next morning, Brandon arrived back at the location he had left Levi and the other elves, thier pick up had arrived, he could see the elves being led on board in cuffs.
"This is the best we can do for them, I slipped in the sergeant's name so they wouldn't harm them, how were the young ones when you left them?" Levi said.
"They are fine, let's get going" Brandon said as they bordedthe ship and left for the closest teleportation station.
