CHAPTER 29 DECISIONS

Bernard haven't stopped showing concern even though Roselyn told him she was dating. He comes around and when asked he says he came to see friends. Roselyn could notice he comes more often than before so it wasn't just about his friends.
The other evening he was there with his friends celebrating with a guy who cashed out a big sum. it was indeed a big fortune for a student like that. There they were about thirty and above, including girls. Neighbors were there but she didn't deem it necessary to join. She only stood at the balcony above them watching.
"Hey!" A voice heard right beside her. It was Bernard, he stood with a malt drink smiling.
"I didn't see you down stairs so I brought you this" Stretched out to give her the bottle.
"Oh, that was thoughtful yet unnecessary" She spoke sparingly in other to suppress her shyness.
"I don't mind how you ascertain it, I only want you to take it, please"
"Why malt?" Wondering why he chose to get her malt when there were vast brands of alcohol and beers there. He really had considered her to be soft-headed and too holy for liquor. Anyway, if so, he's right. She didn't grow in a family that fancy alcoholic beverages and so, not conversant with it.
"I presumed this would be better for a decent angel like this. I can change it if you don't like it"
"It's okay. let me have it"
He gave it to her but didn't leave. He stayed with her and they had a casual moment. He was with her until the party was over, many left before him.
When Roselyn was alone, she took her phone and went through her contacts, first she dialed Richards number knowing that it won't go through. The result was just as she anticipated. The next was Richard mother's, she haven't called them for long and haven't received a call from them either, but that also didn't ring. She dialed twice but it failed. Possibly bad network or the phone is off, since electricity is a problem at some places. She kept scrolling, she saw Susan's number she sent her a threatening message and deleted it she did same to Fatima's number. Other old useless numbers, she deleted. Lastly she called her family, spoke with them assuring them of health and peace.
She went inside, she needed to study. She felt guilty of not taking her studies serious recently. She got her hands on books piled on a small table near the upper side of her bed, taking them off one after another. There she found a book she always read but for two month she's abandoned it. She slipped it out flipped the pages to where she assumed she stopped, while still searching she saw a paper between pages. She fetched it out, unfolded it with curiosity as she could not recall ever stocking it there. Maybe she did but forgot, time to find out.

She placed the paper to her chest after reading it, glowed with a deep meaningful smile. She felt so emotional that tears followed the smile. Her initial intentions to read was blown away by her sudden discovery. Memories of their days together lined up in her mind, taking turns, she felt a twinge in her heart. she needed to suppress it, not knowing how she began to slide through pictures of them in her phone, they played a crucial role in comforting her. Now, she could see the reason Amanda demanded she take pictures and keep memories of them.
"At least he loves me, I love him too, so very much. He's the best boyfriend anyone can have. He proved himself in many ways. Why should I worry about carrying the child of a man I adore so much. Though i didn't plan for it, as it will however impede me to my ambitions but I still don't regret being pregnant. My lovely baby, I don't know your gender but whichever, you are a blessing. You are here to bond me and your father firmer. I love you. I will always do"
She kept caressing her flat tummy as if she was really touching the unseen baby. She thought about her life, how it will affect her studies and many more. She haven't told anyone about the pregnancy yet, not even Amanda, Richards mother or her family. She already made up her mind to keep it but the question is can she go through the mockery and scorn that follows? is she ready to bear the pain and neglect? Of course that would be too heavy on her. Even if she decides to face her studies with it the challenges won't let her focus. Her days at school will be a waste. The only option was to quit school, not just quiting but travelling to where nobody knows her. A year is enough to get everything sealed. Although she haven't thought about what to do with the baby yet but she believes she would figure it out as time elapses.
