Avy and Light floated through the air until suddenly they were standing. They were just standing. A bleak, empty landscape of swirling sand surrounded them.
The land of Xebyss.
The sands parted and revealed a horde of celestial water and land monsters. One of the creatures was named Cresto一, a mighty beast that Eris had captured and placed deep below her darkest castle. This creature was like an eel, with tentacles coming from its head. It has six eyes and a maw with razor-sharp teeth.
Beside it was the Alinganha一 from its name, this two-faced creature was a developed version of a deadly alligator and piranha. Long forgotten, but the magnificent creature remains, even after all these years. With anger in its eyes, Avy did a one-on-one staring contest with the beast. She has read about it. It was a creature shaped by its agony and anger. It was the forgotten guardian of the castle ruins. A cryptid creature that everyone in the Thirteen Cities known.
As Avy and Light stared at creatures one by one, an ancient and famous monster of Below Zero appeared right into their front. They held their breath as it swirls around the other creatures, greeting them with a roar as it passed them. It was Krallun一 the Frozen Leviathan. The mighty leader of all Eris's monsters. Everyone thought that this creature was far way extinct ages ago. The citizens of the Twelve Cities always say that they should count themselves lucky that this behemoth of a Leviathan isn't alive in the world of Below Zero anymore. They always say that people don't need to worry because the distant roar they heard out in the tundra was only their imagination.
But, Light and Avy had proven the truth now.
Because standing in their own eyes is the own evidence that monsters continued to lure around the human world.
The terrifying creatures encircled Light and Avy. He pulled out his sword as the creatures moved closer.
"Now, now, my pets," a female voice purred from the shadows. "Is this the right way to treat a guest?"
The weird sands instantly revealed a pair of ordinary chairs一 which looked very out of place in that strange world.
A moment later, Eris herself appeared. "Bravo," she said, giving a round of applause for the two.
"No mortal has ever made it to Xebyss before. Alive, that is. Make yourselves at home, my dear guests."
"Nice place you got here, Eris," Light commented dryly.
"Like it?" Eris cooed with her usual enchanting voice. "I'm planning on doing the whole world like this, by the way. An entire world of sins, darkness, chaos, and monsters."
The two both sighed as a response.
"I see you're busy," He said. "So listen carefully; we'll just take the Book of Peace and Light, and then get out of your way. Deal?"
But. it's more than evident that Eris wasn't about to let the Book go that easily. "What makes you think that I have it, huh?"
"Well, you framed me, accusing me that I stole the book, and so the Judges of the Thirteen Cities would execute me," Light said. Eris smirked in return. He suddenly realized his mistake.
"No, Winter!" he cried. "You knew he would take my place, you bitch!"
"Although I didn't like how you called me a bitch, still... what a clever little man you are. Congratulations on finding my hidden agenda." Eris cooed him once again.
"You thought I'd run," Light went on. "Then Winter would die, and Cairo would be一."
"Left without the next rightful king," The Goddess of Discord finished for him. "And tumble into glorious chaos! You, humans, are so predictable! Winter couldn't help being ever-so-noble to you and all, and you couldn't help betraying him."
"But I didn't fuckin' betray, Winter!" Zale protested. "I didn't run away."
"Oh, but you did betray him," Eris said, gesturing to Avy. "You stole his one and only love! He's not even on his grave yet, and you're trying to get his girl! Face it, Light. Your heart is as black as mine." Eris's voice roared like thunder, so deep and sounding so full of anger.
Avy stepped forward as she heard she mentioned her name. "You don't know what's in his heart," she cried. Hadn't she misjudged him once herself? She had thought that all about Light screams selfishness. He felt he was coarse enough. But his actions during their voyage had proved to her that his rough exterior covered a heart capable of having a true friendship.
Eris smiled knowingly at Avy, "See? You're defending him already. What a clićhe drama."
She turned to Light, "In your heart, you know that Winter is going to die in your place because he saw something in you that just isn't there. You are not good. You're a worse friend."
"No! Fuckin' No!"
"Want to bet, dear?" Eris replied. "I'll tell you what. Let's play a game. If you win, I'll give you the Book of Peace and Light. Simple." With a wave of her hand, the Book appeared on a floating platform. "There it is, sinned hero."
Light stepped toward the Book. But as he did, a part of the platform crumbled beneath his feet.
"Not so fast," Eris said. "My games have rules, Mr. Blackwood. I'll ask you one simple question. If you answer truthfully, the Book will be yours."
He still looked wary. She can't trust her. What if she doesn't stick to her own rules?
"Give me your word."
Eris sighed. "You still don't trust me? Oh, alright, you have me as a goddess." She made a motion over her chest, and a fiery X appeared there. "Fair enough?" she finally asked.
Light turned to stare at Book minutes later after he's sure that Eris will have her word. His expression was intense. "Damn, go ask your question..."
"Now we all know what will happen if you get the Book of Peace and Light. You return it to Cairo and save Winter. But if you don't get the Book, you have a choice to make. Either run away to paradise with the woman of your dreams or return to Cairo to die. What if you don't get the book on my hands? Will you go back to die, Light?"
There was a long moment of silence. Dead air surrounded them all. Light looked at Avy, then back at Book seconds after.
"I will go back," he said.
Again. Silence. Light tried to reach cautiously towards the Book, but then when his hands are near on its edge, the ground cracked beneath him.
"You're lying." Eris hissed.
Avy felt herself hurled out of the Abyss. Light flew through the air beside her. Eris's mocking laughter followed their ears as they fell.
