CHAPTER 8

Silas gently touched his sister’s casted leg. He caused that injury and he’s afraid that his sister can’t continue doing her skill now. Sam uttered, “Mom said she’ll going to dispose the bike. I insist not throwing it because it’s a gift from you".
Silas smiled; Sloan clung himself to Silas’ shoulders. Silas answered, “If she disposes it then I’ll
buy you another one. Wait for me to have a vacation so I can teach you”.
Sloan asked, “Mom rarely talks like that. Did you have a fight with her?”. Silas answered, “It’s just a small misunderstanding. I’m glad I saw you both; I missed you so much”. Sam added, “Too bad, Sheldon can’t come because of his classes” referring to their other brother.
His stepdad joined them, “Silas, I apologize on behalf of your mom. This was too unexpected and it happened while she was busy at work. Maybe she got pressured” he said.
Silas smirked, “It’s alright. I know my mom well. Thank you for sending Samantha here” he answered.
“She’s like a daughter to me now. Anyway, aren’t you busy? You came right away after your mom called” he said.
“Have you forgotten? Every month we have a free time to spare and that day is today. I’ll be busy again by tomorrow” Silas answered.
Clarina entered the room while holding documents and Silas’ wallet. She handed it back and uttered words, “I used your card. If it’s out of your will then I’ll send you the money back when I get home” she said.
“No need to return it. I caused this mess anyway” Silas answered while facing his siblings.
“It’s good that you know these things. Now if you’re going to be busy, you may leave now. I can manage things from here” she said. Sam and Sloan started frowning again while seeing their brother slowly fading away from their
sight.
Silas went outside and saw Stella patiently waiting for him. The two went to the hospital’s rooftop to breathe some fresh air. Stella started a talk, “I heard everything and I know you’re hurt. You said your mom was caring and gentle but why did she talked like that?” she asked.
Silas sighed, “Before she was like that. I don’t know what caused her to change suddenly. Her words affected me the most. It’s more painful than her slap; I had an earful and I got it recorded in my mind”. He sat down while staring at the night sky. There are no clouds and stars
because of the bad weather; Instead, he got his eyes on the moon.
“It’s beautiful, right?” Stella asked. Silas stared at her and replied, “It’s only beautiful when I gaze it with you”
Stella felt butterflies in her stomach. She knows Silas is trying to push away the topic about him and his mother but Stella continued on talking about it.
“Are you going to let her do that to you?” she asked out of the blue. Silas looked away but he still answered, “At least, we can see each other and I can give support to my siblings”. “But you’re abusing yourself, Silas. You deserve to be treated nicely because you always care about them” she replied. Silas looked at her, tears falling from his eyes. “I deserve to be treated that way, Stella. Everything is reasonable and it includes my mom’s way of treating me. Maybe she got tired of pouring her attention to me who’s ignoring it. I lost the chance and I’m constantly regretting it!” he answered.
Stella gave him a tight hug, “A mother can’t resist her child. I hate seeing you like this” she said.
Silas stood up and gave her a kiss on her forehead. “I don’t want you to see me like this also. I can’t breakdown; I want to be the strongest pillar you can ever have” he said.
He held her hands and started to go back to their places. It started to drizzle when they got home. For Stella, this day taught her a lot through her experiences. She saw interests from Silas’ actions, she also knew how things were for him and his family. At some point she felt like she’s treating Silas unfairly. She can’t think of a way to make herself open for their relationship to become wider.
On the other hand, it’s another day for Silas to see his brotherhood smiling and being visited by their family members while he – had the worst day of his life. The drizzle transitioned to a rain; Xavier cooked a good meal for the others to enjoy while talking about their day.
Carl started to tell his side, “My mom baked a lot of cookies! I craved for it in a long time and who would’ve thought this could be a mother’s instinct?”
Xavier shared, “My mom stocked up the groceries in my room. She thought I might need it even though she knows that we have something to eat and use here”
Silas kept quiet until he was asked to share his day. “Stella and I spent the day in the park. We played with kids until the clouds started to pour drizzles” he said.
Xavier gave him a vicious look all of a sudden and it got Silas’ attention so he asked, “What?”. Xavier shrugged and said nothing. The brotherhood finished their meal with smiles on their faces.
Silas entered the room and started to look at his phone. Another set of photos were taken on this day. He opened his messages and saw Stella’s goodnight messages but what took his attention was a message from his mom.
He opened the chat head and saw a screencap of a
fund transfer.
He got annoyed and started to dial his mom’s number but he failed because his mom’s phone
was turned off. He whispered, “She said I’m stubborn but little did she know that I got it from her”. He smirked loosely and started to send back the money to her mom.
Just as quickly, the day concluded like it is an open-ended story. The next morning, Silas was woken up by the alarm clock in his bedside table. It’s another day for him to pray, serve, and meet his girl.
The day started smoothly. They had a good breakfast to kickstart their day, they had the not-so-hectic schedule and a stress-free class. Lunch time came and Silas went near Stella while holding their favorite lunch – fish and fries and an oreo cheesecake milktea.
Stella glared at him badly. Silas had his eyebrows raised, “What did I do this time? Last night we were so okay. I even sent you home safely” he said.
Stella rolled her eyes, “You didn’t greet me goodnight” she said and crossed her arms. Silas scratched the back of his head; it slipped his mind and he slept early without knowing that he missed something.
“I’m sorry. I think I slept” he said, trying to console his girlfriend. Stella faced the other side, “This is the first time you missed greeting me goodnight. That one word means a lot to me! I can’t believe you slept to it. You even read the message!” she answered.
“That’s why I’m apologizing. What should I do to make it up to you?” he asked and faced Stella’s way.
“Find a way yourself” she said while lips pouting. Silas smirked and pinched Stella’s cheeks,
“You’re so cute when you’re annoyed! Just like a mad rabbit” he said that made Stella furious.
“How could you compare me to an animal? Do I even look like it?” she asked and shoved away Silas’ hands.
Silas’ smile faded away. He opened the container and started scooping a spoon of food. He tried to console her with their favorite. Stella looked up and saw Silas presenting her a spoonful of food with the milktea ready for her to drink. She removed Silas’ hand from the food and ate by herself.
The two ate quietly not until Silas asked her, “Make sure Sister Hua won’t suspect this. You love her cooking more than this cafeteria food, right?”.
Stella continued consuming their lunch, “Sister Hua will understand.
Maybe she experienced having a lunch with someone too” she answered.
Silas smirked again. His girl really looks so adorable while sulking but he can’t annoy her more.
