Chapter 11

Liam was jolted awake by the sound of rustling grass and the clicking of claws on the floor. His senses immediately went on high alert as he realized a large gray wolf had entered the room and was staring straight at him. The wolf's mouth was open, saliva dripping from its fangs, and Liam couldn't help but wonder if he was about to become the wolf's prey. As he watched, he noticed that the wolf's fur was wet and matted, and its mouth was stained with blood.
"You don't dare, Brien." Liam stood up and stretched his body.
The wolf shifted into his human form. Brien wiped his mouth. He's been hunting in the woods.
"Carnivore wolf! I thought you were vegan?" Liam smirked.
Brien shrugged "Liam, that's nature. I went roaming in the woods and I saw hunters chasing deer so I played and chased the deer to easily bring it down." He laughed.
Liam was thinking. "So, if you went to the city next week you'll be going to hurt people? If you're a beast remember the city is another monster too!" He looked in the window, outside was dark and lonely. The night is their favorite time they can see clearly in the night and that's their special ability aside from strength and power. "City is like a long table and all meat in it. I bet you like that!"
Brien spoke in a hushed voice, aware of the danger of speaking ill of Alpha Maximo. "Not in our pack," he said, "but who knows what Maximo is capable of? He could be eating human flesh and keeping it a secret."
Brien's nose twitched as he spoke, and Liam could tell that the thought of Maximo's potential cannibalism disgusted him.
Liam felt a chill run down his spine at the mention of Maximo's possible dark secret. He knew that if he spoke out against the Alpha, he risked being banished from the pack or worse, having his neck broken by Maximo himself.
"I don't want to talk about it," Liam said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want to become a rogue and be even more alone than I already am."
Brien's expression hardened. "It's time, Liam," Brien said, his voice booming.
Liam nodded in agreement "I knew." He heaved and went out. Liam was summoned to meet with the Alpha to discuss his upcoming mission.
As he walked towards the Alpha's residence, he exuded confidence and his imposing figure cast eerie shadows that made the other wolves in the pack visibly apprehensive. Despite his commanding presence, Liam remained humble, his handsome face calm and composed as he strode forward with purpose.
Upon reaching the Alpha's door, it swung open, revealing a somber Maximo. Liam couldn't help but wonder why the Alpha looked so downcast. It was only later that he learned of the Alpha's tragic loss - his son had passed away. The reason for his untimely death remained a mystery to Liam.
He bows his head slightly as part of the respect. And raised his face to meet Maximo's stare. He could see the anger and sadness in the presence of the Alpha.
"Brien told me to meet you."
"Yes, my Beta, I have a new mission for you." He stood up and moved close to him. "As you know my son, Leonard died last week."
"Lord, what do you want me to do then?" He could hear Maximo's breathing.
The Alpha's voice dripped with malice as he spoke to Liam, his eyes glinting with sinister intent. "I want you to avenge the death of my only child, Liam," he paused for breath, relishing the fear that was creeping into Liam's eyes. "He was found dead in the trap of Mr. Fergus, the best hunter in town."
Liam recoiled in horror, his entire being wracked with terror. The thought of taking revenge on the man who had raised him was unthinkable. He shook his head vehemently, his heart racing as he tried to deny the Alpha's orders.
How could he hurt an innocent man like Mr. Fergus? Liam was convinced that the old hunter was not capable of such a heinous act. Despite his protests, Liam knew that he had no choice but to carry out the Alpha's bidding or face the full wrath of the pack. But he made his choice.
The full moon cast an eerie glow over the clearing as Maximo, the Alpha, towered above Liam, his eyes blazing with an otherworldly fury. "For years, Liam," he snarled, his voice laced with menace. "Have I not kept the terror of Ark Ville at bay? Have I not protected the villagers from harm? And yet, someone has taken the life of my only son. Our kindness, and our sacrifices, are never enough for them. They take and take, never bothering to reciprocate the goodwill that we have shown them."
Maximo's rage was palpable, his chest heaving with every breath as he glared down at Liam. Liam as the Beta knew that his Alpha was not one to be trifled with - he had seen the anger in Maximo's eyes and the savagery on his face before. But this time, it was different.
This time, the stakes were higher and Liam knew that he was being tasked with a dangerous mission. Liam is faced with the dilemma of disclosing his relation to Mr. Fergus, the man who saved him from hunters.
However, revealing this could potentially enrage Alpha Maximo further, jeopardizing Liam's place in the pack. Liam contemplates whether it's worth it to sacrifice Mr. Fergus's safety to avoid getting kicked out of the pack.
On top of that, Liam has been tasked with avenging Maximo's loss, but the idea of hurting Mr. Fergus is unbearable to him. The weight of this new mission is causing Liam great distress, and he struggles to come up with a solution that will satisfy both Maximo's expectations and his moral code.
For six long years, he has lived in the dark, foreboding shadows of the Wildfang pack. Despite his love for the pack, he couldn't assure the success of the latest mission given to him by Alpha.
He feels no remorse for Maximo's son's untimely demise, but a deep sense of dread grips him at the thought of his hidden secret being uncovered.
The Wildfang Shadows have always adhered to their solemn vow of never harming humans, never indulging in the hunt for human flesh. Their sustenance comes solely from rabbits, deer, and other animals.
Yet, their Alpha is a brutal one, often disregarding these principles and preying on unsuspecting humans. The mere thought of crossing this line fills him with terrifying uncertainty, and he wonders how much longer he can keep this dark secret from the rest of the pack.
"I want his head, put it on the top of the plate." He commanded in his terror's voice. His mind was filled with revenge. His ferocious side was pronounced and the two guards were frightened but Liam did not show fear.
"I think I can't, my dear Alpha," Liam shook his head and turned to him. He could see the disappointment on Maximo's face. The vein running in Maximo's forehead was visible.
"Why?" He moved swiftly close to Liam and Maximo grabbed him in his arms.
No words came out of Liam's mouth he just stared into Maximo's eyes, his eyes burned with anger. He couldn't even complain at Maximo's sharp nails like an edge of a knife embedded in his skin.
"Why you can't, Liam? Are you a Beta or not?" He growled.
"I have always been devoted to my position and remain so to this day. However, your mission is too extreme. You know I cannot bring myself to kill innocent humans. I refuse to stain my claws with their blood."
Liam eyes did not waver, and he braced himself for a fight - werewolf strength against werewolf strength, claws against claws, fangs against fangs. He would not back down, even in the face of Maximo's power as Alpha. He was prepared to face an Alpha and Beta in combat.
Maximo's contemptuous voice dripped with disdain as he uttered the words, "Do you even know who you are, Liam? You are a weak and worthless werewolf, unfit to be a part of this pack."
In response, the two guards of the Alpha underwent a stunning transformation, turning into colossal wolves that encircled Liam. Maximo observed from his lofty position, fixated on the unfolding spectacle.
Despite the intimidating display, Liam remained fearless. As Liam stood his ground, a menacing black werewolf pounced toward him. With remarkable agility, Liam evaded the attack and seized the wolf by its neck, choking it until it gasped for air. Summoning all his strength, Liam hurled the wolf away from him.
Before he could regain his footing, a brown werewolf lunged towards him. Liam reacted with lightning reflexes, sidestepping the attack and causing the wolf to smash its head against the wall. The impact left the wolf dazed, allowing Liam to take control of the situation.
"You will understand soon, Maximo," Liam growled, his voice laced with anger. "You will understand why I refused your mission. And if you compel the pack to attack Ark Ville, I will be your opponent."
The Alpha shook his head dismissively. "Do you think you can stop me, Liam?" he sneered. "Tell me, Liam, why is the village so important to you? Are you mated to one of the villagers?"
Liam hesitated, his lips parting to speak but no words escaped. He quickly thought better of it and held his tongue, leaving Maximo to ponder his next move.
"I heard that the nephew of Maximo is in the village he came the day when my dear Leonard died. If you can't kill Mr. Fergus because you're scared of him bring me the head of his nephew then."
He turned his back on Maximo and left that room. He went straight to the last floor of that mansion of the Wildfangs shadow pack.
The full moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the forest below. Liam's heart pounded as he gazed down at the dark earth, feeling the primal call of the wild. With a deep breath, he closed his eyes and leaped into the air.
His body twisted and contorted, his bones cracking and reforming in a blur of pain and ecstasy. When he opened his eyes again, they glowed an intense green, and thick fur sprouted from his skin. His shorts ripped apart, and his teeth elongated into sharp fangs.
He let out a deafening howl as he plummeted toward the ground, relishing the rush of adrenaline and power coursing through his veins. He hit the earth with a thud, his transformation complete. He was no longer a man, but a white wolf, with a hunger for action and adventure.
He ran as fast as he could. He was running and didn't mind where his feet brings him. He stopped at the edge of a high cliff. There he howled and it echoed back. His howl scared the hunters and they have to hide in the giant root of the trees.
He will never come back to that mansion or consider himself to belong in the Wildfang Shadows anymore. From now on he will be rouge and roaming around. He wants to stay as a wolf for a while. The surroundings are cold. His fur is thickened in cold. Now, the only thing on his mind is: how to save Ark Ville and its people. How he saves Mr. Fergus and the dapper city guy who's plain stupid.
The sound of gunfire shattered the stillness of the forest. He didn't notice the hunter lurking nearby, aiming with his rifle.
The bullet struck Liam's leg with a sickening thud, and he stumbled, his body wracked with pain. He turned to face his attacker, his eyes filled with confusion and fear. Another shot rang out, but this time the hunter missed. Liam tried to run, but the pain was too much. He collapsed on the ground, his body trembling with agony.
As the hunter approached, Liam knew he was doomed. He looked into the man's eyes, seeing only cold, calculated hatred staring back at him. Liam's heart ached with sadness as he realized that this was the end of his life.
With a heavy heart, Liam closed his eyes, accepting his fate. He knew that he would never run through the forest again, never feel the wind in his fur, or hear the howl of his pack. However instead that the hunter stabbed him or shot him again he pushed Liam's body and fell to the cliff.
