Chapter 22

As the first light of dawn painted the sky in soft hues of orange and pink, Keiran stirred from his slumber. Unable to resist, his gaze fell upon the man lying beside him, enveloping him in a tight embrace. Keiran felt a sense of belonging, as if Liam's arms were his true sanctuary. The warmth that emanated from Liam's body was inviting, and the firmness of his hold offered a comforting embrace.
Liam remained peacefully asleep, his features serene and innocent, like a sleeping angel. Keiran found himself captivated by the gentle curve of Liam's lips, aching to taste their sweetness. With great restraint, he released himself from Liam's grasp. Yet, he couldn't help but be drawn to the expanse of Liam's broad chest, a testament to his masculinity. The strands of hair that adorned it only heightened Liam's allure, reminding Keiran of the passion that simmered beneath the surface.
Shaking his head, Keiran stepped out of the humble hut and found himself surrounded by a picturesque view. The sight that greeted him was nothing short of breathtaking. As he cast his gaze downward, he beheld a vast expanse of flourishing orange orchards, stretching as far as the eye could see. The allure of freshly harvested oranges from his uncle's farm beckoned to him, accompanied by the tantalizing promise of their aromatic sweetness and the refreshing touch of morning dew upon their vibrant skins.
With a heart full of anticipation, Keiran left the comfort of the hut behind. He brought the basket he found outside the hut, his footsteps guiding him towards the verdant paradise of the orange groves. Each step he took immersed him deeper into the serenity of the farm, where he found solace amidst the symphony of nature. The towering trees, heavy with plump, sun-kissed oranges, created a harmonious spectacle that filled the air with tranquility. Inhaling deeply, the crispness of the morning air awakened his senses, while the delicate fragrance of orange blossoms danced on the gentle breeze, casting an enchanting spell over the entire scene.
Meanwhile, Liam opened his eyes to find the empty space beside him where Keiran had slept. Alarm fizzled through his veins as he realized his friend, Keiran, was nowhere to be found. Panic took hold, urging Liam to his feet. He called out Keiran's name, his voice raw with urgency, but the only response was the echo of his own voice in the silence.
Determined to find his friend, Liam braved the unknown, delving deeper into the woods. His heart pounded in his chest, as if it could guide him to Keiran's whereabouts. Every step felt heavier, the wilderness closing in around him. Suddenly, a rustle in the underbrush startled him, freezing him in place.
There emerged a pack of werewolves, their eyes gleaming with a mix of cunning and allegiance to Alpha Maximo. Their beta, a menacing figure, stepped forward, a sinister smile dancing on his lips. "Well, well, well. What have we here? A lost pup?"
Liam's jaw tightened, fury welling up within him. He knew he had to stand his ground, to fiercely protect his freedom. "I won't be swayed by your alpha's empty promises. I have a pack of my own, and I will fight for them with everything I have."
A derisive chuckle escaped the beta's lips. "Your pack is nothing compared to the might of Alpha Maximo. Return to us, young wolf, and all will be forgiven."
Liam's eyes blazed with defiance. "I will never kneel before your alpha. I am my own alpha and my own destiny."
With a snarl, the beta lunged at Liam, claws unsheathed. The clash of fur, fang, and muscle reverberated through the woods as the two werewolves grappled for dominance. Each move was tense, every strike a testament to their ferocity.
Liam could feel the power of his werewolf form coursing through him, his muscles honed for battle. Roaring in defiance, he unleashed a savage blow, overpowering his adversary. The beta stumbled backward, his pack members shrinking away, uncertain of their next move.
Breathing heavily, Liam stood triumphant, his voice echoing through the clearing. "Leave now, and never return. Let Alpha Maximo know that I, Liam, will never bow down to his tyranny."
The defeated werewolves slunk away, vanishing into the depths of the forest. Liam's chest heaved as he took a moment to gather himself. As the silence settled once more, Liam knew that this encounter was only the beginning. The fight against Alpha Maximo loomed on the horizon, and the fragmented pack members still needed to be reunited. With unyielding determination, Liam pressed forward, his resolve solidifying with each step.
As the adrenaline from the encounter with the werewolves in the woods began to subside, Liam reverted to his human form, his body tingling and muscles sore. He took a deep breath, attempting to steady himself before continuing his search for Keiran. Determination burned in his eyes as he pushed forward, the urgency to find his friend growing stronger with every passing moment.
Through the winding trails and dense foliage, Liam's heart raced with a mixture of worry and relief. His mind was consumed by thoughts of Keiran's safety, the questions of why he had left, and the mysteries that lingered in the air. Finally, through the twilight-dappled trees, he caught a glimpse of Keiran's familiar figure.
"Keiran!" Liam's voice carried a mixture of relief and concern, echoing through the stillness of the forest.
Keiran, startled by the sound of his name, turned his gaze towards Liam. A flicker of surprise flashed across his face before morphing into a warm smile. "Liam, you're here! I was worried."
Liam approached Keiran cautiously, his eyes scanning over his friend's features. Keiran couldn't help but notice the torn fabric on Liam's chest and the deep claw-like marks that marred his skin. Confusion filled Keiran's eyes as he asked, "Liam, what happened? How did you get those wounds? Were there wild animals or something?"
Liam hesitated for a moment, uncertain of how to respond. He knew he couldn't reveal his true identity, so he quickly crafted a lie. "Oh, it's nothing, Keiran. Just a little accident while I was exploring the woods looking for you." He stared at the basket Keiran holding it were full of fresh oranges so he came up with the thought that Keiran gathered it in the oranges farm. "I stumbled and got caught in some prickly bushes. Silly, I know."
Keiran's eyebrows furrowed with skepticism. "But these wounds look like they were made by claws, not bushes. Are you sure you're okay? Shouldn't we clean and bandage them?"
Liam shrugged nonchalantly, doing his best to maintain his facade. "No, no, it's really nothing. I cleaned them already, and they're not as bad as they seem. Let's not worry about it too much. But I need to find a healing herb called Moonstrider. It should be around here somewhere."
Keiran's eyes widened with a mix of curiosity and concern. "Moonstrider? I've heard of its healing properties, but I never thought we'd have to search for it. How can I help?"
Liam's expression softened, gratitude shining in his eyes. "Keiran, I need you to help me locate the Moonstrider herb. It has distinct silver-colored leaves with a faint luminescence. Once you find it, carefully pluck a few leaves and bring them to me."
Keiran nodded, a determined energy radiating through him. "I'll do whatever it takes to help you, Liam. Just guide me, and we'll find it together."
With Liam's guidance, Keiran scoured the forest floor, his eyes attentively scanning for any sign of the elusive Moonstrider herb. After what felt like an eternity, a soft exclamation of delight escaped Keiran's lips. "Liam, I found it! The Moonstrider herb!"
A sense of relief washed over Liam as Keiran approached, carefully cradling the leaves in his hands. "Well done, Keiran. Now, I'll instruct you on how to apply it. Gently crush the leaves to release their healing properties. Then, place them directly on my wounds, covering them completely."
Keiran followed the instructions attentively, his touch gentle and delicate as he applied the crushed Moonstrider leaves to Liam's wounds. The leaves released a soothing aroma, whispered promises of healing and renewal into the air around them.
Keiran's gaze locked with Liam's, a fleeting moment when fate intervened and their eyes converged. His heart raced, and he took a deep breath to steady himself before uttering the words that lingered within him. With a tremor in his voice, he asked, "What if I were to admit my feelings for you?"
In that instant, time seemed to hang in suspense. The weight of anticipation filled the air as the question lingered, brimming with uncertainty and vulnerability. Keiran's admission hung between them, the unspoken desires and emotions eager to be acknowledged. Everything seemed to hinge on Liam's response, an intricate dance of possibilities poised on the edge of their conversation.
