Chapter 17

8:10 PM...
Sam's house...
"Juggling? And magic tricks?" Sam asks through the phone. He is talking to Alyson, who had asked him to join her and Cameron in entering the talent show together. They'll be performing a magic show.
"Back in Hawaii I tried to juggle coconuts. It didn't end well, hahaha," says Sam with a big laugh.
"Hahaha, well, now's your chance to show the whole school what you are made of! Come on, it'll be fun," says Alyson, hoping that Sam would accept her offer.
"Count me in, Al! I guess it could be fun," says Sam.
"Yippy! Thanks a lot, Sam! By the way, we need to start practicing," says Alyson. "How about we start tomorrow at my house?"
"Sounds cool. So see ya later I guess," says Sam.
"Ok, bye," says Alyson before ending the call with a smile.
The next day, at school...
"What?" Peggy asks with a surprised look in her face.
"I agreed with Lindsay to enter the talent show with her. I'll sing and play the guitar, and she'll dance," says Leonard.
"Ahhh....I was about to ask you to join my duo. I thought it would be nice if we could do a duet," says Peggy with disappointment.
"Hey! Look, I'm sure you'll find someone to be your duet partner. But now, I already made the deal with Lindsay. I can't break my promise," says Leonard as he tries his best to explain to his best friend.
Peggy just stares at the ground, not even bothering to make eye contact with him. She was disappointed that after they kissed at the karaoke, she really thought things between her and Leo could grow into something more. They even made out that night, though Peggy thought Leo probably didn't remember since alcohol took the best of him. Slowly, she could feel her heart getting heavy, and tears slowly filled her eyes.
"Hey! Paige! Look at me," says Leo as he puts his hands on Peggy's shoulders. Peggy still refuse to look at him and just stares at the ground. Without any warning, Leo pulls Peggy into an embrace. He hugged her tightly as he feel her tears starting to fall into his shoulders.
"Don't cry! I got you. It's just a talent show. No matter what, you're my best friend, Pegs! I'll never leave you."
I wish I was more than a friend. Peggy thought.
9 AM...
"So who didn't do their homeworks again?" Mrs. Steward asks the whole class.
This is ridiculous! Tyler thought.
"Whatever! Let's continue to read page 108," says Mrs. Steward.
After school...
While the cheerleaders are cheer practice after school, the dance kids also have dance practice. Knowing that the talent show is just around the corner, some of them even thought about entering together as a group.
"So what do you guys think?" Aria asks as she continues to dance.
"We never really perform in front of anyone," says Gina.
"It's a jackpot, G! We could impress our crush," says Scarlett as she does a double twirl.
"BTW, I wonder how Alexis' band is doing," says Aria in curiousity.
"My bro told me that he's gonna be the vocalist," says Gina.
"Wow..didn't know he could sing," says Scarlett.
At Alexis' house...
"If we're gonna do this, at least we have to make sure we're doing better than what the others are doing," says Liam as he stands in front of his keyboard.
"Chill, dude! We can totally do this with a lot of practice," says Alexis before he starts struming on his electric guitar.
"Ok, ok! Ladies and gentlemen, be prepare to to witness the performance of...us," says George as he claps his hands.
"Is that your opening speach?" Liam asks.
"Yupz! What about it?" George asks.
"You need better pick up lines, bro! We want people to see how cool we are. Make them see us as the next One Direction, Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, Jay-Z, or something like that," says Liam.
"Why don't we just be original and show our colours, Liam? That would be better, I think," Alexis states.
"The point is to be original and also inspiring, but ALSO motivated by big stars, cause we wanna be stars," says Liam as he puts his hands in the air.
"Ok, shut the f up, bros! Let's just continue our practice. My angelic voice is waiting," says George as he gets a good hold of his mic.
"Find. But don't fail us, Martinez," says Liam.
"Never ever," says George.
As Liam and Alexis starts playing their parts, George starts singing to "Closer" by The Chainsmokers.
Meanwhile, Tyler and Victoria are busy with their English project by Mrs. Steward. The two are asign to work together, and are now doing the project at Victoria's house.
"Man, I can't believe Mrs. Steward didn't told us anything about the project. And we have a freakin' talent show to enter," says Tyler as he continues to write his part for the project.
"I know. She can really be a pain in the head at times. Ugh, I'm already half crazy just thinking about her," says Victoria as she also writes her part for the project.
"Hahaha, don't get too crazy though," says Tyler with a small laugh.
"Of course not. Why would I be too crazy?" Victoria asks as she continues to write.
"Because Mrs. Steward can make student suicide in 10 minutes. Well, except me, of course. And if you die, I'll surely miss you a lot," says Tyler with a cheesy smile.
"Haha, good one, Ty," says Victoria with a small giggle. "Speaking of Mrs. Steward, have you decide what you're gonna do for the talent show?"
"I'm gonna perform my DJ skills. So far, I think I got some cool remixes," says Tyler.
"Ohh..that sounds cool," says Victoria, as she focus on her writing.
"How about you?" Tyler asks with his casual tone.
"Well, I'm thinking about showing how I make a clay statue. Sometimes I do it when I'm free," says Victoria.
"Clay statues? As in, you mean all the clay statues in your house were made by you?" Tyler asks.
"Yup," says Victoria.
"Wow, that's awesome. You're quite an artistic person," says Tyler with a cheesy smile.
"Haha, I tried," says Victoria.
5:30 PM...
At Sabrina's house...
Sabrina is practicing her break dancing for the school talent show. She had been taking dance classes since she was 8 years old, exactly one year before her parents got divorced. She has a younger brother name Lawrence, who she often called Larry, who is staying with their mom, while she stays with her dad. Sometimes Sabrina and Larry still visit each other, despite having weird step-parents. Their step-father, Don, is extremely cold and seems anti-social. He never reply when Sab and Larry called him, and is always seen sitting in the living room reading news paper when they're around. Their mom told them that Don has traumatic syndrome due to a dark past, though it seems more like he just doesn't want to get close to them.
Meanwhile, their step-mother, Tiara, is non-other than a two faced, back-stabbing woman who portrays the fairygod mother from Cinderella in front of their dad, but behind him, she's more wicked than Mother Gothel from Rapunzel. Though Sab and Larry had told their father multiple times how cruel Tiara is, it's almost seem like their father had been brainwashed, and refuse to listen to his own kids. He even had 2 children with Tiara, Marston and Ruby, who often bad mouth Sab and Larry to their father. So literally, Sab had been trying to stay strong on her own, and at some chances keep in touch with Larry as she can.
Damn...one more round. Sabrina thought as she restart the music from her phone. She starts dancing again, repeating what she did before. The song eventually come to an end, which leads Sabrina to end her dance practice for today.
"Damn..that's good," says Sabrina to herself as she wipes her forehead with a small towel. She was starting to feel hungry at this point, especially since she had burn a lot of calories from today's practice.
Man, I'm starving. Sabrina thought, before thinking about taking a shower and going out for dinner. She didn't want to have dinner with her step-mom, especially since her dad is out of town for business trip.
Sabrina walks out of her room and enters the kitchen. She opens the fridge to get a carton of orange juice. She pours it to a tall glass, before drinking it in one shot, letting the fresh juice into her body.
"No surprise to see you looking like that."
Sabrina didn't bother to look at where the voice came from. She had enough of it since the first day she heard it. This voice literally bothers her more than the sound of Mrs. Steward nagging. Right now, she wish she could just run outside the house, maybe while listening to Rihanna's hits on her Spotify.
"Dear Sabrina, you look like a mess. What have you been doing?" Tiara asks in her usual "sweet but fake" tone.
"Duh, not your problem, T! Just school project," says Sabrina as she walks past the woman she wished she could give a good slap right now.
"Girl, you smell like you haven't shower for 3 months," says Tiara as she covers her nose while staring at Sabrina.
"Whatever! Gotta go! B-bye," says Sabrina as she exits the front door of her house, leaving her pissed off step-mother staring with rage.
7:45 PM...
"Eomma (Mom), Appa (Dad), I'm gonna go study math first," says Peggy as she finish her last gochujang (Korean fried chicken).
"Yes, Ji Hye! Just be sure to come down when dessert is ready," says her mom as she continues to cut some apples for dessert.
"Ne, Eomma (Yes, Mom)," says Peggy with her usual cheerful smile.
"Ahh..Ji Hye is becoming such a big girl! Appa (Dad) is very proud of you," says her das before he gives her their usual bear hug.
"Gomawo, Appa (Thanks, Dad)," says Peggy as she fell into her dad's embrace.
"Ok, Appa can we please let Ji Hye study now? Her teacher is a total pyscho," Callum states as he watches the two warm embrace, while his mother just smiles at the sight of her little family.
"Ah, ok. Your oppa (brother) is right. You should study now!" Says her dad as he let's go of his daughter from his embrace.
"Yeah. I'll study first! Annyong (Bye)," says Peggy as she walks to the direction of her room, but before she could even reach her room, the door bell of her house rings, in which kind of surprised her. Who could be visiting the Song's household at this time?
"I'll get it," says Peggy as she runs towards the door to check it out. She opens the door a little, just to make sure who it was first, and is definetly surprised by who she saw.
"Leonard?" Peggy asks as she still looks surprised. "Can I help you? Is everything ok?"
"It's fine. I just wanna talk to you for a sec," says Leonard as he looks a bit frustrated.
"Umm..ok," says Peggy. She then opens the door bigger, just so the both of them could get a good look at each other.
"Can we talk inside?" Leonard asks.
"My eomma and appa are in the kitchen preparing for dessert. Do you want some?" Peggy asks.
"Thanks, but we can talk about that later," says Leonard. "How about if we go to your room? Like, only for a sec?"
"Umm..ok. I just gotta tell them that you're here first," says Peggy.
"Sure," says Leonard, now looking a bit more relax.
The two teenagers walk to the kitchen, where Peggy's parents are preparing to make fruit salad.
"Eomma (Mom), Appa (Dad), I have a friend here tonight. Eomma, Appa, this is Leonard! Leonard, these are my parents," says Peggy as she introduces her parents and Leonard at the same time.
"Ahh...annyong haseyo (hello)! Welcome, Leonard! So happy that you visited. Please, join us for fruit salads," says Peggy's mom as continues to mix sliced apples, bananas, and strawberries together in one bowl.
"Ah, yes. Please, help yourself with some drinks," says Peggy's dad as he hands Leonard a glass of banana milk.
"Thank you," says Leonard as he smiles at the two adults.
"Eomma (Mom), Appa (Dad), Leonard and I will be studying math together. We're gonna head upstairs first ok," says Peggy as she slowly hold Leo's arm, giving her butterflies inside. Little did she know that Leo was also feeling the same thing.
"Sure. Have fun kids," says Peggy's mom warmly.
With that final word, Peggy drags Leonard to her room and closes the door shut. Her room is decorated with bright colours and has many fancy things such as aesthetic flower pots, a starry night lamp, and even some posters of K-Pop stars.
"Ok, Oppa (Big brother)! What is it that you wanna talk about?" Peggy asks as she sits on her pastel pink bed.
"Am I really your oppa (big brother)?" Leonard asks as he lies down on Peggy's bed, making her a bit nervous since she never seen him in this position before.
"I call all my friends oppa (big brother) and eonnie (big sister)," says Peggy with an awkward tone.
"I'm a few months younger than you, Ji Hye," says Leonard as he stares deeply into the ceilings.
Peggy is kind of surprised that Leonard had addressed her by her Korean name. Usually everyone in there school calls her by her English name, Paige, or Peggy as her nikname.
"Leonard..why are you being weird?" Peggy asks as she refuse to stare at her crush (and best friend) lying on her bed, looking like he's been messed up and just wanted to be fix. She knew if she stare a bit longer, something is gonna happen between them, which involves a lot of emotions and feelings in the play.
Damn, I'm bad at expressing emotions of regret. I didn't mean to make her sad that morning. But what should I do to let her know that I really do care for her? Leonard thought.
"Leonard..." Peggy takes a look at her best friend still lying down on her bed, now he's looking more and more depressed. "Are you ok?"
"Yes, but I just wanna be happier," says Leonard as he slowly stood up from his position, making Peggy more and more nervous.
"Howww...?" Peggy's soft voice tickles his ears at she's now on the edge of screaming her heart out. How she wished she didn't have to hide all her feelings, and just tell Leo how she really feels, and that what happened at the karaoke wasn't a mistake.
"Song Ji Hye," says Leonard in a sexy tone. He slowly grabs her by the waist, where the two enter a deep kiss. Peggy almost scream at the kiss, but knew that she never wanted to pull away when she's in his arms. Leonard pulls her closer to lie down, where Peggy is now on top of him, not wanting to break the kiss. Slowly, Leonard traces his lips to Peggy's neck, in which she moan in pleasure, but was also nervous.
"Leo...My parents," says Peggy, breaking the moment between the two. Leonard stopped his kiss to continue to look at her in the eyes. Leonard could feel her heart beating faster, and so was he. He didn't want to stop, but knew that it was risky to do it knowing that her parents are downstairs.
"Sorry...I didn't mean," says Leonard. "I respect you."
"No..Leonard," says Peggy. "I don't wanna stop."
"But your parents.."
"Only 3 minutes," says Peggy before she place her lips on Leonard, as the two continue with their little moment.
To be continue...
