Chapter Eighteen

All the science students were going to the school's laboratory for a pratical session. David was hanging his rucksack. He felt something vibrating and found out it was the wrist watch Mr Robinson had given him.
Someone passing by saw the watch and liked it. "Nice watch!", she said as she walked past him with the rest, going to the lab.  David smiled and thanked her. Almost immediately, Stella and her friends walked past him and she didn't even look at him.
David's happy mood gradually changed to a sad one. The watch resumed its vibration before he came back to himself. He checked for the location in his watch and left his mates, heading to the gate.
He met the three security men sitting in front of the security building. They commanded him to stop. "School session isn't over yet", one said to him.
"Uhmmm...Sir! I just wanted to...", he stammered, looking for the perfect lie to tell him.
"Go back inside young man, you've got nothing to say", replied the same security man. David quietly turned to go back but then, he remembered people's lives would be at stake. He couldn't let another death rampage in Calabar.
"Hey! Why aren't you walking down?", asked the security man, seeing David standing at a place.
"No! I have to go save lives", he made up his mind. He quickly darted off the school before the security men could blink their eyes, not literally though.
"Hey! Hey!", the other two stood up, yelling at him. They even were about going after him but the first stopped them.
"I know him very well...his parents will know about this", he said.

Ratboy climbed down a big building to the ground. He saw everywhere was peaceful and became baffled. "It's this the location?", he checked his watch to confirm. Yeah...the location was valid because he was where the watch had shown to him. He kept his hands on his waist, worried about where it could be.
The ground began shaking violently all of a sudden. Everyone stopped what they were doing, so terrified by the violent shaking.
     "Earthquake in Nigeria?", David wondered.
The road began cracking up, just in front of Ratboy, a couple metres away. People moved away from the spot but encircled it to find out what really was going to happen.
Death bursted onto the scene to the terror of everyone from underground. They all fled away. It roared and wanted to devour everyone as usual but retracted when it saw Ratboy.
It squeezed its face on seeing Ratboy and decided to start off with him. Ratboy dodged all the moves, Death not striking even once. Ratboy threw his favourite stunt, the backflip, using his two legs to kick Death at the jaw. The flip was not a perfect one though, he fell flat on the ground rather while Death remained standing.
The pain David felt was insignificant compared to that of Death's. It was extremely unbearable. He knelt down to the ground, groaning in pain as he held his jaw. Ratboy stood up and waited for Death. Seeing how much his attack was severe on it, he felt it would surrender soon.
Death, out of frustration, strikes its hand on the ground, making that very spot shatter. It still groaned pain. It then began to have all the moments in memory of it easily beaten up by Ratboy. The remembrance of all of them made his head ache.
Ratboy saw it holding his head, giving out a loud cry. He actually became confused seeing what was happening at the moment. "Just a backflip kick and its having so much pains?", he thought.
As the moments of it being beaten up kept on replaying in its memory, it was gradually getting angry more and more. Ratboy sensed its anger by its sudden and continuous growling.
After a while, it became quiet and laid lifeless on the road. It was so good to be true for everyone.
The monster died just like that? Everyone wore a disbelief on their faces. David also couldn't believe Death had died by only a backflip kick used as an attack.
He walked close to Death very slowly to avoid being caught by surprise. He examined it to find out if it was still breathing but no, there was no movement, it was not breathing. "So it could be dead", he said to himself, forcing himself to believe.
Almost convinced it was dead, he walked way closer towards it. "I think it's dead", he informed everyone, knowing they were still in doubt Death had died.
His happiness was short lived when he saw one of Death's hands moving a little bit. He became more afraid when he saw Death breathing again. "It's still alive. Run!!", he shouted to everyone as he walked some steps backwards.
Death suddenly stood up and roared, looking up to the sky and firing out lasers from his eyes in the process. "Woah!", Ratboy exclaimed in amazement. Death looked at him and he could see its extremely angry face. "This doesn't look good", he thought, trying to summon courage.
Death fired out lasers at Ratboy but he dodged it by jumping so high. He landed on his feet and saw as the lasers burnt down the people it met on the way to nothing. "Huh?", he looked at Death in fear.
Death attacked him with several punches, missing only the first attempt. It punched him the last one and he flew away, landing not too far away with his back on the ground badly.
"Now that's enough", David stood up, ignoring the pains he was feeling at the moment. Death set for a fight, signalled for him to come over. David made use of his rat speed and ran to it to get him by surprise. He attacked Death all-round with all he got, Death struggling resist all strikes.
Becoming fed up with Ratboy's incessant strikes, it angrily gave him a powerful punch at the face to the ground. Before he got up, it picked him up and flinged him away. He crashed to a high building and was falling down but quickly held on to the wall with his sticky gloves. David looked down at Death, and saw it patiently waiting for him to come down. "Where did the strength manifest from?", he wondered, so scared to go down.
Death knew just the perfect strategy to make David come down. It chased after people to eat up their heads. David ran after it, on the walls of the building though. He got to the edge, and with his power jump ability, he was able to land between the running people and Death, before it could get to them.
Death and David both stood still, facing each other. Both were waiting for the other to first make a move. Ratboy gave up waiting and ran towards Death to attack first. "I'll end your existence today", he yelled.
He got to Death, wanted attacking first on his rat speed but to the shock of David, Death saw his movement on time and blocked the strike. David, hell shocked at the moment;"No way!" Death took advantage of his distracted attention and quickly attacked him.
It beat up Ratboy to a stupor...David was beaten black and blue. It hit his stomach the most of other parts, flinged him, banging him to a street light pole. The worried people seeing how bloody Ratboy was beaten up, shouted at Death, ordering it to leave Ratboy alone. But it was of no use. Is it a heartless and dangerous monster, that'd listen to their cry?
Death pounced on David, picking him up as though he was a piece of cloth. He forced an already weak Ratboy's head lean on the pole and banged his head to it twice. The people around increased the intensity of their voices only, none had the boldness to confront it, who'd want to be killed by his or her head being eaten off their bodies?
Death was not done with David yet though. He made him stood up. It held both his hands and bent them to break his bones. David yelled in severe pain, the crowd surrounding them stopped shouting, watching how he knelt down with his hand clearly broken. Death now with the last attack, picked him up and raised him up in the air for a while.
It looked round, the people resumed, but this time, begging Death to have mercy on Ratboy. Death roared at them, clearly showing its irritation for their pleading. They didn't stop pleading it though and it got angrier, smacking Ratboy to the ground.
Everyone then kept quiet. Had they the chance, they would have rescued him from such an ordeal. Death looked up at the crowd and then at Ratboy. It decided to leave David alone. It roared and looked at the crowd again, wearing an angry face. The crowd sensed danger and began running away for their lives. Death ran after them and devoured anyone it got held of.
