When we arrived at Reno Beach, we stopped on a crossroad. A black van was waiting there and Collin went down from the car, walking towards the other vehicle. The passenger’s side’s window rolled down, a man with a dark aviator sunglasses was talking to Collin. The window rolled up again and Collin ran towards the car. He knocked on Merikh’s window, once it was rolled down, he bent to level with him. “Hey, uhm, I need to talk to you,” then he shifted his eyes to me and back to him, “alone.” They went to the back of the car, away from the trunk where Lucifer is. I can see their lips moving, but I couldn’t read what they were saying. Then, they both rode inside their respective sides, and Collin changed the gear. We drove past the van, which followed us to his father’s beach house. When we arrived, I saw my dad’s truck parked near the wooden walkway leading up to a small pier for yachts or small fishing boats. I looked away and followed Collin and Merikh inside the house, the men in the van surrounded the house. Some of them even looked for a way to get down to the basement of the house or dungeon or whatever it was down there. We walked towards a living room with a huge window where you can see the lake. A man was standing there looking out the window, who I assumed is Beleth. Collin’s dad was sitting on the couch and when he saw us, he stood up. “Finally!” he exclaimed. I looked at him then to Collin, who walked straight towards his father. He led him to me, “take the cuffs off,” Collin commanded. “What?” I said, confused. “He said, take my goddamn cuffs off!” Mr. Roth yelled. “I’m not going to ask twice, Mia.” I placed my hands on top of them and then we heard a click. As I removed my hand, I slid off the cuffs and he smiled, massaging his wrists. Then he turned his back, walking towards Beleth, and whispered something. Beleth looked over his shoulder and smiled. He fully turned around and I saw a man very familiar to me. A man I once knew. Someone who was a second father to me. “Eric,” I said softly. He smiled, “hello, Peanut. It’s been a long time.” My eyes were still wide as he walked closer and paced in front of me, “how, uh, how’s the whole hunting trip you got? Were you good to Rory? I hope you were ‘cause it’ll be a shame if you didn’t.” “How long have you been, Beleth?” “Not long enough.” “Weren’t angels supposed to get permission before possessing someone?” “Yes, that is true. But sweetheart, I’m not an angel,” he bent down to level with me and his eyes turned white, “I’m the king of Hell.” He stood up straighter and told his guards to put me in the dungeon with the angel, I am assuming that’s where Azriel is. They grabbed my arms and I looked at Merikh. He mouthed “I’m sorry” then he walked towards Collin’s Dad. My eyes shifted to Collin and he looked down, walked over to his dad, who placed a hand on his shoulder. I couldn’t help it, rage was filling inside of me. “You fucking son of a bitch!” I yelled at Collin. They turned around to look at me, I was about to charge at him but the guards were fast and were able to stop me. “How could you do this to me, Collin?! I thought you’re my friend!” my voice was breaking. “And you,” I paused looking at Merikh, “I trusted you! I trusted you and you just fucking used me! You son of a bitch!” I tried getting away but their grip was too tight. Collin walked towards me, held my face inches away from him, “now you know what it feels like to be really betrayed.” He gave me a peck on the lips then let go of my face hard, I felt like my neck would snap. I looked up at Merikh and he was looking away. As the guards took me away I heard Mr. Roth complimenting Collin and Merikh for a job well done. *** It's been a long day for Collin and Merikh. Keeping up with appearances just to make Beleth and his father believe they’re on their side. Collin’s men are waiting outside for a signal. It was only 8 in the evening, they still have a few hours before midnight. Before they do the ritual, the trials to close the gates of Heaven forever. “I thought Lucifer’s gonna be here?” asked Beleth. Merikh and Collin looked at each other, his father noticed it. “Does the two of you know where he is?” Mr. Roth asked. “Uhm, yeah. I forgot him in the trunk of the car. Sorry,” Collin and Merikh left together to get Azriel’s vessel in the trunk. When they were out of earshot, Merikh stopped Collin, “was it really necessary to, you know, do that to Mia?” “Mer, we have no choice. If we want them to trust us, we gotta do our part. Don’t worry, by midnight, my men will get both Azriel and Mia out. We got them right where we want ‘em.” They proceeded to walk over to the car and get Lucifer out of the trunk. When they got there, Collin closed his eyes again and mouthed another spell. They heard a loud click and opened the trunk. “About time you two bastards got me out,” Lucifer said, glaring at both of them. They helped him out and once the trunk was closed, Collin placed the cuffs on Lucifer’s wrists. “Oh come on! Really?!” he whined, Merikh tugged the cuffs to make him walk inside. On their way in, Lucifer hated the silence. So he started singing Highway to Hell. Merikh and Collin looked at each other and rolled their eyes. “What’s with angels and singing?” Collin suddenly asked, “I mean, I’ve heard Azriel sing. Mia sings in her head. And this fucker right here is singing right now.” Merikh shrugged, “well, everyone can sing but that doesn’t mean they had to. Starting with,” he gestured at Lucifer, who was somehow off-key. When they got to the living room, they pulled Lucifer towards Beleth and Mr. Roth. “Hey, why the cuffs?” Beleth asked looking at Collin and Merikh. “We don’t trust him without it,” Merikh pointed out, “besides, he might run away and not help out, you know. I mean, he’s the Devil after all. Liar, manipulative, and most of all, deceitful.” “He has a point,” Mr. Roth agreed, “good job, boys. Now, you can go and let the big boys talk.” Collin and Merikh left the room. When they were out on the corner, they both quietly ran towards the basement. A few of Mr. Roth’s men were guarding the area. They walked towards them, “you can’t be here!” one of them said. Merikh covered his mouth and Collin stabbed him with a silver knife, killing the shifter in an instant. They both fought them as quietly as they could and when one of them dropped to the ground with a loud thud, Merikh mouthed “sorry” to Collin who was glaring at him. Then they heard running footsteps, probably some of the guards have heard the thud and ran towards it. They hid in a dark corner, and when it was time to attack, Merikh stopped Collin. “We can’t just go out there and attack, we gotta make sure they’re all dead before one of them runs to the big boss and tell on us,” he said. “Well, isn’t that the plan in the first place?” “Was it?” “Yeah, we cannot go down there and have these men walking around.” “Why didn’t you say so?” Merikh said then proceeded to get out of the corner, he stood there and whistled. The men saw him and started to attack him. Collin grabbed one of the guards to the corner and broke its neck. Then he went out to help Merikh kill the guards. When the last one has been stabbed, they carefully laid the man on the floor. They stood up straighter, panting. “Still need some help?” Raphael and Uriel appeared behind them. “It’s about time you got here,” Collin commented, still panting. “You got them here?” Merikh was surprised to see his brothers. Collin nodded. “Beleth, my dad, and Lucifer are in the living room. We’re going to get Azriel and Mia out of the basement.” “Wait, Azriel’s vessel still has Lucifer inside, right?” Raphael was confirming, both Collin and Merikh nodded, “crap. Alright. We’ll take it from here. It’s only an hour left before they start.” They all ran in opposite directions in pairs: Collin and Merikh, Raphael and Uriel. They heard some men scream in pain, “Uriel probably toasted those guys,” Merikh chuckled. Then Collin kicked a guard on his stomach hard. “Collin, duck!” Merikh said and threw his staff to the guards charging. They were skewered on the wall by his staff, Collin broke the neck of the guard he kicked down. They continued running towards the direction of the basement and fought off anyone who got in their way. They were nearing the entrance when a large man appeared, pacing back and forth. Collin held up his hand, stopping Merikh from his tracks. “Woah, that’s some big man,” Merikh whispered. “Yeah,” replied Collin. They were both panting from all the running and fighting. They hid on the corner for a bit. “Okay, we’re both strong enough to fight big man over there, but one of us gotta go charge in first,” Merikh suggested. “Okay,” Collin nodded, “go on then. You can go first.” “What? Why me?” “You’re a fallen angel turned demon, you got some powerful shit.” “You know what, let’s settle this like adults.” Collin stood up straighter, “alright. Let’s do this.” Merikh placed a fist on top of his open palm, Collin did the same thing, “2 out of 3?” “2 out of 3.” They played Rock, Paper, Scissors in the corner to find out who’s going to fight the big man guarding the door. Merikh chuckled when he won the first round. “Damn it!” he whispered after losing the second round to Collin. Collin chuckled. “Son of a –“ he grunted when he lost again, “okay. I can do this,” he said and sighed. He gripped his staff tighter and spun it to ready himself. “Good luck, man,” Collin said, then chuckled. “Shut up,” he replied, “but thanks. But shut up.” Collin just laughed and watched Merikh walk towards the big man. “Hey!” he heard Merikh say. He peeked from the corner to watch him. When Merikh was thrown to the ground, he looked at Collin, “a little help here?!” he grunted as he tried to sit up. The big man grabbed him by the leg, “Collin!” he yelled. “Alright, alright!” he replied. He showed his fangs and his eyes glowed, he ran towards the big man. He used his fangs to cut the man and spit out blood that came in his mouth. The big man dropped Merikh to the ground, he stood up as fast as he could to help Collin out. Collin punched the big man, then Merikh hits his head with his staff. They were taking turns hitting the man, not giving him the chance to fight back. When he fell to the ground, Merikh took his staff and shoved it to his heart. The man shouted in pain before the life from his eyes disappeared. Then they heard a rattling of chains, “Collin! Mer!” It was Mia. They tried opening the door that was being guarded by the man earlier, and once they succeeded, they went inside and saw a row of doors. “Oh, you got to be kidding me!” Merikh groaned.
