Something’s not right, I thought. I looked around and Azriel’s just sweeping the floor and not hearing my thoughts. Merikh looked at me, you felt it too? I slightly nodded at him then I tried again. I looked at Azriel, who’s now picking up broken chair legs. Azriel. Hey! Yoohoo! Can you hear me? Hey! I’m going to sing again if you don’t look! Nothing. He just continued picking up whatever’s on the floor then suddenly, "Mia?" It was Azriel’s voice in my head. "Azriel?! I don’t know how you do it but you’re here but your mind’s –" "That’s not me." "What?!" "Remember when I stopped the car you and Collin’s dad were in?" "Yeah?" "The driver’s not human. I mean, he was but he’s dead. But the soul inside the driver isn’t a human soul." "Then who was it?!" "I, uhm, I don’t know. But I was casted out before I even knew who it was." "Are you sure? You’re not playing with me right now?" "I swear to my dad, I am not. Go on, find it out yourself." I cleared my throat before speaking, “uhm, Azriel, hey,” I said. Both Merikh and “Azriel” looked at me, “yeah?” he said. “Do you know where your ukulele is?” He gave me a weird look, “what ukulele? I don’t play any instruments. You know that,” then he continued sweeping. Merikh looked at me then to this person disguising as his brother. He then walked towards him, placing an arm on his neck, and slamming his back to the wall. “Where’s my brother?” he growled. “I’m here! What the hell are you talking about?!” “Where the fuck is my brother?!” his shout was louder and angrier. This Azriel suddenly laughed, “fine. Fine. You got me. What gave it away?” he asked. I walked closer to them, “the ukulele. Azriel can’t go anywhere without it. Oh and uh, the first time we met, he was playing an instrument and sang along with it, too.” “So, who are you?” Merikh asked. “You don’t remember me?” his eyes turned red. I gasped, “Lucifer.” “Hello, sweet cheeks,” he replied while looking at me. We heard a car’s tire screech outside, Collin busted in. He looked everywhere and then his eyes laid on me, Merikh, and the meat suit of Azriel with Lucifer in it. He rushed towards us and grabbed “Azriel”. “Collin!” both Merikh and I said, following him outside to the car. He opened his trunk and dumped Lucifer inside. I got a glimpse of the trunk door, there was a sigil on it. It was a more complicated sigil than a normal Devil’s Trap. Once he closed the trunk door, he closed his eyes and was mouthing some words. Both Merikh and I were just looking at him. When he was finished, he went straight to the driver’s side and opened the door. Before he entered, he looked at the two of us, “are you just gonna stand there, or are you coming?” Merikh and I immediately went inside the B&B to grab my duffel and his staff. Then we ran to the car and rode in. Merikh stayed in the backseat while I sat in front with Collin. He drove to a town in Toledo, just a few minutes away from Reno Beach. We stopped in front of a worn-out tourist store and got out. Merikh and I followed suit, he stopped at a park bench just across the street, then a man appeared sitting on the bench. “Uriel,” Merikh said, “are you here to help?” “Yes,” he said, “Azriel’s missing. We have to find him.” Then he looked at me, “you must be the Nephilim.” I nodded, he did too. “So,” he started, “Lucifer’s got a hold of Azrael’s vessel?” “Yeah, that son of a bitch was able to eject him from his vessel without Azriel knowing,” Collin replied. “How did you know all of this?” “I figured it out and,” Collin paused, “and Beleth.” “Beleth? You talked to Beleth?” Merikh asked. “Yeah. My father led me to Reno Beach and I stayed with them for a couple of hours until Beleth himself revealed that Azriel is no longer Azriel. At least not at the moment.” “Did he tell you anything else?” “No. That was it.” Uriel stood up and said he’ll go up to Heaven to find out anything else, probably where Azriel might be. “You tried contacting him, right?” Merikh asked me. “Yeah, I did.” “Well?” “He was able to reply and he was the one who told me to find out myself that he wasn’t playing with me and the angel in his vessel ain’t him.” “Do you want to try it again?” I sat down on the bench and closed my eyes. "Azriel? Are you there? I started thinking." "Mia? Hey. What’s happening?" "Everything’s gonna be okay. Uriel’s going to help." "Did you find out who took over my vessel?" "Yeah, we did." "So? Who was it?" "It was Lucifer." "I’m sorry, did you just say Lucifer?! He took over my vessel?! Son of a –" "It's going to be okay. Can you tell us where you are? I can contact you so it means you’re still –" "Somewhere on earth? Yeah. Well. I can’t tell much but it’s dark in here. Like a, like a…." "Like a dungeon?" "Yeah. Hold on." I opened my eyes and looked at Collin and Merikh, “do you guys know any dungeon-looking place here on earth?” They both answered with a yes and a no. The two of them looked at each other. “You know very well that my dad has a thing for dungeons, so, he’s probably near.” I closed my eyes again. "Azriel, can you tell me if you hear anything?" "Uhm, yeah, I hear seagulls." "Seagulls?" "Yup and crashing waves, I think." "Okay, uhm, we’ll figure it out. Stay still." "Where do you expect me to go?" "Hahaha. Sorry." I opened my eyes again and told them that Azriel can hear seagulls and waves crashing. Collin took his phone out and dialed a number, “does my dad’s house in Reno Beach have any dungeons?” There was a pause, “uh-huh. Okay, get every one of your men and wait for us. I’m not going to risk any of you and charge in there, alright? Okay. Thanks.” He looked at us, “come on. Let’s go,” he said as he led the way back to the car. “Where are we going?” I asked as we walked behind him. “Reno Beach. My father’s beach house.” “Dude, can you not be any more of an epitome of first-world problems?” Collin shrugged his shoulders, “well, if I can’t get the girl. Then I’ll just have the money,” he smiled smugly as he rode the car. Merikh rolled his eyes, and I laughed, “oh, so you find that entertaining?” he asked me, I just shrugged my shoulders as I entered the car.
