Chapter 53: Reunited

The next morning, Hunter Mondiego stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of his tailored white shirt. A navy blue blazer rested neatly on his shoulders, and the silver watch around his wrist glinted in the sunlight that streamed through the window. Today, he had a mission—not just as the man who loved Angel Foster, but as a representative of the Mondiego Empire.
He left the rented house and made his way into town. His first stop was the flower shop he visited the previous day. As promised, the bouquet of white roses was ready, wrapped in elegant blue paper and tied with a golden ribbon. Nestled safely in a small gift box inside his inner coat pocket was the silver necklace with a half-heart pendant—a symbol of the love he still held onto.
Hunter arrived at the Greenbay Town Hospital midmorning. But instead of the quiet hum of routine, the hospital was in complete chaos. Sirens wailed in the distance as more ambulances pulled into the parking lot. Nurses rushed back and forth, attending to bloodied patients on stretchers. Doctors barked orders. The waiting room was crowded with anxious relatives. It was a multi-vehicle accident that had sent nearly two dozen people into the ER.
Hunter was surprised by the sheer volume of activity. Still, he made his way to the front desk and handed over the bouquet and gift.
"Please deliver these to Dr. Angel Foster’s office," he told the receptionist. “It’s an appreciation gift from the Mondiego Empire. For her excellent service.”
The nurse blinked, clearly overwhelmed, but nodded and accepted the items with care. "Yes, sir. I’ll have it delivered right away."
Hunter turned to leave, not wanting to get in the way, when a voice called out from the hallway.
"Sir! Wait!" a nurse called as she ran up to him. It was the same nurse who had guided him to the observation room the day before.
"Yes?" he asked, surprised.
She caught her breath. "Can you help us? We’re outnumbered. Almost all the doctors are either in surgery or managing critical patients. If you’re certified... we need hands. Even just for minor injuries."
Hunter didn’t hesitate. "I’ll help. Get me a coat."
Within minutes, Hunter was in scrubs, moving through the hallways like he never left the field. He set up triage in a side wing of the hospital, focusing on patients with minor to moderate injuries. Cuts, sprains, fractures—he handled them all efficiently, working alongside nurses and young interns who looked at him with admiration.
As time passed, his rhythm became second nature again. For over three hours, Hunter didn’t stop moving. At one point, an emergency came in—a young woman with internal bleeding. With all the operating rooms occupied, and no other surgeon available, Hunter stepped in.
The surgery was intense, but successful. As he pulled off his gloves and removed his mask, the medical staff around him started applauding.
"Dr. Mondiego, that was incredible," one of the interns said. "We owe you."
Hunter smiled faintly. "It’s my job."
Later, the hospital administrator Mrs. Valeria approached him. She was an elegant woman, wearing glasses and a calm demeanor despite the earlier chaos. "Dr. Mondiego, would you join me in my office for some tea?"
He nodded politely. "Of course."
In the administrator’s office, the atmosphere was finally calm. She poured him a cup of warm tea as a token of gratitude.
"We’re deeply thankful for what you did today. If you weren’t here, we might have lost more patients."
Hunter nodded. "I was glad to help."
After a short pause, he placed the cup down. "I also have a favor to ask. As a representative of the Mondiego Empire, I’d like to wait for Dr. Foster in her office. I have an important message to deliver personally."
The administrator gave him a curious glance, then smiled. "Of course. She’s still in surgery, but I’ll have someone escort you to her office."
Minutes later, Hunter stepped inside Angel’s office. The lights were dim, and the room carried the faint scent of fresh roses. On the table rested the bouquet he brought, still beautifully arranged, untouched. Beside it was the sleek gift box containing the silver necklace.
Hunter sat down on the couch, his eyes drawn to the flowers. The sight of them in her office gave him a strange sense of calm. He wondered how she would react. Would she know it was from him the moment she saw the pendant? Would she open her heart again—or had too much time passed?
He looked around her office. Bookshelves lined the walls—medical journals, reference books, case studies. Her stethoscope hung neatly on a stand beside her framed degrees. It was Angel through and through—precise, driven, and passionate about saving lives.
He leaned back against the seat, resting his head for a moment. The day’s work had exhausted him, but it also gave him clarity. No matter how much pain lingered between them, no matter the unanswered questions, one thing remained true—his love for her had never faded.
And now, she was just a room away.
Three hours later, the door to the office opened slowly.
And there she was—his Angel.
