Chapter 60: To the Rescue
As Hunter and Angel remained in captivity, a storm of movement was occurring outside the abandoned warehouse. Kian Mondiego, who had been monitoring Hunter’s location through a discreet tracking device embedded in his watch, had already taken measures before his brother went to the address spray-painted on their pathway.
"Make sure the signal remains strong," Kian ordered, sitting inside a van parked not far from the site, surrounded by a team of private investigators and field agents. Each member of the elite team wore full tactical gear, their headsets wired directly to Kian’s command system. They watched through live feeds from body cams and drones circling overhead.
The tracking device didn’t just show Hunter’s location. It also included a sensitive voice detector that picked up conversations within a five-meter radius. Kian listened carefully, his jaw tightening as he heard the unknown abductor taunting both Hunter and Angel.
Inside the warehouse, the scene was tense. The man in the hooded jacket paced while tapping at a laptop, watching stock values and movement patterns on screen. His obsession with control and revenge was palpable.
Hunter, tied to a chair with zip-ties and rope, kept his focus sharp. While Angel lay groaning in discomfort not far from him, he worked his wrists methodically, slowly loosening the plastic restraints until—snap—his hands were free.
He moved immediately to Angel, crouching beside her, his fingers fumbling quickly to undo the knots. Her eyes flicked open, confused but relieved. But their moment of hope was cut short when the hooded man turned and raised a handgun.
"What do you think you’re doing, Reeves? Ready to die for her?" he shouted, cocking the weapon.
Hunter stepped in front of Angel, his arms raised slightly to shield her. But before the man could pull the trigger, two gunshots rang through the building.
The first shot pierced through Angel’s shoulder, drawing a loud cry of pain from her lips. Blood soaked through her clothes almost instantly. Hunter screamed, turning to catch her as she sagged.
The second and third shots came from outside—the tactical team had breached the warehouse.
One bullet struck the masked man's arm, making him drop his gun, while another hit his leg, causing him to fall to the floor, howling in pain. Tactical lights flooded the building as agents moved in, securing the area and disarming the remaining guards.
Kian’s voice crackled through the earpieces. "Secure the targets. Call in the medics. Make sure that bastard doesn’t leave alive."
Hunter didn’t wait. He tore off his own shirt and pressed it firmly against Angel’s bleeding wound, applying pressure to stem the flow. "Stay with me, Angel. Just stay awake, please."
Her face twisted in pain, but she nodded weakly. "The baby... Hunter..."
"You’re both going to be okay," he assured her, voice trembling but resolute.
Within minutes, the sound of approaching sirens announced the arrival of two ambulances. Medics rushed in and took over as Angel were carefully loaded into stretchers and rushed to the nearest hospital. While Hunter is by her side
Inside the emergency room, chaos gave way to organized efficiency. Angel was quickly stabilized and brought into surgery to remove the bullet. Hunter refused to leave her side until they wheeled her into the operating room. He sat outside, hands bloody, tore shirts, heart pounding.
Kian arrived minutes latervgave Hunter a new clothes to wear, his expression grim. The authorities who had been working with him had already apprehended the suspect and were escorting him under heavy guard to a secured medical room nearby.
Philip and Vivian Foster soon arrived at the hospital as well, horror painted across their faces. Hunter met them in the private waiting room.
"She’s out of surgery. The doctors said the bullet missed any vital organs. She’s stable," he explained.
Vivian rushed to embrace him, tears in her eyes. "Thank you for protecting her."
Philip placed a hand on Hunter’s shoulder. "You saved our daughter... and our grandchild."
Kian entered the room next. "The man who abducted them has been identified. His name is Jonathan 'Joe' Lancaster."
Philip’s eyes narrowed. "Joe Lancaster?"
Kian nodded. "Yes his full name is Jonathan Joe Lancaster, Lance Lancaster’s older brother. Their family was once in talks with yours regarding business merger through marriage with Vivian Foster and Joe Lancaster, but when it fell through because I believe you the foster did not agreed... well, apparently that sparked years of resentment."
Hunter’s jaw tightened. "He said he wanted to destroy the Foster bloodline... that neither Angel nor Vivian would be allowed to carry on the legacy."
"He’s deranged," Vivian whispered. "And dangerous." she was very angry for what he did to her sister
Kian added, "He was also linked to a string of fraudulent stock manipulations under the namen Joe Lancaster that's why he's been using Jonathan Lancaster and we can't track him easily because he known for Joe Lancaster rather than Jonathan before."
A few hours later, Jonathan Lancaster woke up in his hospital bed, under tight security. He demanded to see his father and brother, but no one came. His requests were denied.
Days passed, and the trial preparations began. The evidence against Jonathan was overwhelming—recordings, tracking logs, and witness testimony. In the end he admited to all the crimes he did including the text messages threats he sent to Angel and Hunter, the framing up of Hunter about attempted murder of Angel was also cleared up and Hunter Reeves finally got to tellnthe world he is not a criminal, he was comoensated for the 2 years he spend in prison and ended up donating it to the New Life Orphanage with Sister Beatrice whonis very happy for the justice Hunter finally received
Media were in chaos because of that, the Lancaster were affected with the crimes committed by one of their family members.
Meanwhile, Angel recovered in a private room. The baby was safe, much to everyone’s relief. Hunter barely left her side, staying with her day and night, holding her hand as they tried to move on from the trauma.
She looked at him one night, brushing his cheek. "You were ready to die for me."
"I’d do it a thousand times if it means keeping you safe," he whispered.
Outside the hospital room, Kian stood with Philip, watching the door.
"They’ve been through hell," Philip said. "But they’re stronger than ever."
Kian nodded. "And now that Joe Lancaster’s behind bars, we can focus on what really matters—protecting our family."
The storm had passed for now. But as everyone knew in Southbay City, peace was often only temporary.
And Hunter Mondiego would always be ready for the next battle.Download Novelah App
