Chapter 16: Coffee

With shoulders shrunk, head bowed and lazy walks, I strutted the way towards my unit and opened the door. I threw my bag on the coffee table and rested my back on the single-seater sofa.
"Ah..." I caressed my neck and moved it from side to side. The pain from the heat and dust from outside made my feeling worst and made me more tired than what I already was.
The tiny hope of bringing Terren here in my unit disappeared the moment he told me those words. The ending was, I gave him the food and clothes I bought, included a small amount of money to buy himself food whenever he is hungry, and a weary smile.
It was hard to convince him, but if that was what he wants...then I don't have a choice.
"Do you want some coffee?" My eyes immediately opened when I heard a familiar voice. I removed my foot on top of the coffee table and sat straight. My eyes dropped at my shirt, slightly fixing it from the mess I made earlier.
"You...you are here?" Auton's hands were inside his pockets, his face was dark, and his hair a bit disheveled.
He didn't utter a word and instead entered the kitchen. I gulped.
I have been trying to avoid him since the last day, the main reason why I came to our house other than seeing Terren. Seeing him after that night makes me a bit uncomfortable. It was awkward.
I sighed and decided to follow him instead of staying on the sala with my mind clouded with thoughts.
"When did you came here?" I asked in a low voice, but enough for the two of us to hear. He was now picking the glass containers and cup. He then faced the side of the sink and searched for the coffee maker.
"You didn't tell me you'll come. I went outside so–"
"I just came to ask if you can go to the grocery with me. You are not here so I went by myself. I bought my goods, and I bought you some. Hope it helps." He eyed the shelves from above.
My lips fell open. As far as I can remember, he is angry at me. I even told myself that I should start packing my things for he would probably tell me to move out!
"W-why did you bother to? I mean...I thought you were angry." I averted my gaze and hid my fingers behind my back.
"You don't even have to do this. I feel like...a charity case. I feel so stupid and humiliated."
He stopped making coffee and turned to me. His eyes were now dark, with a hint of slight shock.
"If you are still angry, then you can freely leave. It's not like you have some responsibility to buy me–"
"I said I was confused, not angry." He leaned on the sink and waved his hands, signing me to come closer.
I pinched my left arm with my right.
"Come here, " in a deep, low voice, he mustered.
Pull yourself together, Tayla. It's just him. It's just Auton. I slowly dragged my feet towards where he is. My arms are still behind me, and my eyes avoiding his gaze.
My heart was pounding fast, my lips quivering a bit as I felt the nervousness crawling inside my body.
When did I start feeling like this? I remember myself with...no care for him at all.
I only have about three steps away from him when I heard him sigh and stood straight. He put his hand behind me, making me stood in my heels and lose the gap between us.
"W-what are you doing?" My heart hammered faster. It was loud and clear, and I would be embarrassed if he would tell me that he could hear it.
He moved his face nearer. His eyes were sharp, but something unexplainable is also on it. The seriousness in his face made me tilt my head to the side to avoid it.
It felt like fire...if I will continue to stare at it longer, I might get burnt. He touched my chin and made me stare at him.
"What are you–"
"I was confused...so I didn't meet you after that day even when I want to check on you. Are you angry?" His deep voice thundered.
I gasped.
He was so close! I can smell the mixture of musk and a male body wash from him. The aroma coming from the coffee maker is roaming around the place, and everything feels so awkward.
"I was the one asking you that. Your girlfriend might be hurt. I...caused a scene and it was probably embarrassing–"
"I only have one girl in my eyes, Tayla." he cut me off.
"Then you shouldn't have come here. I would understand if you will no longer want me to live here and if you will avoid me from now on. I can't blame you if you are that furious. I will completely understand." I shook my head to remove his finger on my chin and pushed his chest away.
I turned my back, pulling all myself together as I felt the sides of my eyes heated.
Why did I suddenly feel like I am hurting? It hurts to know that he's got an eye towards that girl when he told me he'll pursue me. It was disappointing, but above all...regretful.
"Tayla." I felt his hand wrapping around my wrist, making me turned around and switch positions with him. He let go of my wrist and moved closer, pinning me on the sink as he put his hands at my waist.
My eyes widened. His eyes were now dark, his brows creating a line in between and his lips pursed in a grim line.
"I will only have one girl..." he smiled at me and moved his face closer. His lips brushed against mine. My eyes remained open.
My breathing hitched. I tried to pull him away, but his hand only wrapped around my back to pull me closer, one hand reached for my jaw to tilt it a bit.
The next thing I knew, my eyes were already closed as I responded to his kisses.
