CHAPTER 8: BAD TASTE

Amelia's POV
"What do you think?" Lily asks, showing me her outfit, a red sequin gown with slit at the back."Cute and simple." I say.
"Just what I was going for." She says.
"You want me to do your eyeliner?" I ask.
"Yes please! I envy your steady hands." She says.
"We can't all be talented I guess." I say smirking.
Once I'm done helping her, I change in her bathroom.
I put my hair up and put on a plain black hat. I step out and ask, "Incognito? Regular person hiding behind a hat."
"Love it! He's on his way, so you should get going." She says, handing me her car keys.
I head outside, and back out of her driveway. I stay inside the car, and wait for Lily and her date to arrive.
10 minutes later, I spot them near the entrance, and realize her date is Jase. I was not expecting that...
A few minutes later, I step into the restaurant. I look for Lily, and see her near a window. When I look around for an empty table, I spot someone familiar in the corner.
I walk towards him and see him glance at me. "Why do you look suspicious?" I ask, pointing at his hoodie and sunglasses.
"Amelia? What are you doing here?" He asks.
"I can't eat at a restaurant?" I ask confused.
"Sorry that was rude. I meant-" I cut him off.
"I'm kidding. My best friend is on a date and she wants me to just make sure she's safe." I say.
Sylvester invites me to sit down, so I slip into the chair across from him. "Were you waiting for someone?" I ask, not sure if I should stay here.
"Nah, I'm guessing your best friend is Lily? I'm here to make sure Jase's not going to get murdered today." He replies.
"I would have never guessed Jase. She's always texting him." I say laughing.
"I swear Jase has never been this hung up on a girl. They seem like a great pair so far." He says.
"Don't worry, he won't be alive for too long." I joke.
Sylvester sighs and asks, "Did you forget to tell me she was going to murder him?"
"Sorry about that." I say, holding in a laugh.
"Any recommendations? It's been awhile since I've been here." He says, checking out the menu.
"I recommend their burgers. They use this special sauce that makes it a million times better. But they also have good tacos if you're into that." I say.
"Tacos for sure. They're my favorite." He says laughing.
A waitress comes over and asks for our order. Sylvester orders tacos with Sprite, while I order a burger and fries with a chocolate milkshake.
"You going to Cassy's party or are they kicking you out?" Sylvester asks teasingly.
"They're kicking me out..." I say.
His whole demeanour changes and he says, "Oh."
"But the food is gonna be great. Hot dogs, burgers, and a bunch of other snacks." I say, knowing I have to wake up early for tomorrow. Waking up at noon is not early. I don't even get to sleep in!
"Well now I don't want to go." He says pouting.
I laugh and ask, "You were going to go because you thought I'd be there?"
"Duh. You're one of the only real friends I have." He says. Ouch, friend zoned. What are you talking about? We're just friends. This book is so boring... What book?
"Well sorry to disappoint. I'm planning on locking myself in my room." I say.
"It's cool, I'll just stick with Jase." He says shrugging.
"Awww no girls trailing after you?" I tease.
He rolls his eyes and I laugh. "I don't see boys trailing after you." He mutters.
"Honey, that's because I have standards. I want to have a boyfriend, but they have to meet the requirements." I say.
"You know what you want." He says approving.
"Usually. Except for food, sometimes it's a difficult decision." I say sighing.
"While we're waiting do you want to play 21 questions? Or at least until our food is here?" Sylvester asks, scratching his neck.
"Okay, I'll start. Do you have a favorite holiday?" I ask.
"Christmas. When I was a kid, I loved making gingerbread houses and cookies for Santa. I'm kind of an expert on making gingerbread houses." He says bragging.
"You'll definitely have to teach me. When I was younger, the walls kept falling apart. I'd give up and just eat the frosting." I say.
"For sure. Do you prefer watching movies at home or at an actual theater?" He asks.
"I'm fine with both but the popcorn hits different at a movie theater." I say.
I tilt my head and ask, "If you could have any power, what would it be?"
"Teleportation. I could literally go wherever I want." He answers.
"Do you have a favorite animal?" He asks.
"Ducks are my favorite. They're so cute! But pet wise, I've always wanted a white rabbit." I say.
"Wait, are you a dog or cat person?" I ask.
"Cat for sure." He says.
"Would you rather be rich or find true love?" He asks.
"True love, then we can both become rich." I say.
"If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?" I ask."One meal? Damn... Probably my mom's lasagna."
"Yum! Now I'm extra hungry." I say. The waitress comes back with our orders, and I feel my phone vibrate.
Lily :
How dare they give you your food first?!
We were here before you
Sorry, I'm too busy eating my dinner
I smile and Alex raises his eyebrow. "Lily is mad we got our food first."
I turn around and show off my french fry. She glares at me, and I turn back around. I see Sylvester started eating and I ask, "Thoughts on the tacos?"
"Their sauces are amazing." He says. "It also has the perfect amount of cheese."
"Right!" I say excitedly. He softly smiles and I look away.
"Do you want dessert? These cinnamon donut holes sound good." He says, looking at the dessert menu."Right!" I say excitedly. He softly smiles and I look away.
"Sure!" I answer.
He orders a plate, and they come out a few minutes later. We each take two, and dip it in the sauce. "Heaven." Sylvester says, munching on his. "I definitely need to come here more often."
When we finish up, I ask for the check. The waitress comes with the check, and I quickly slip in my credit card.
Sylvester is about to say something when I say, "I told you I'd pay next time."
My phone vibrates and I open the notification.
Lily :
You are free from spying Agent A.
Yes sir.
Thank you for your service.
We're just going to get ice cream and he'll drop me off.
It was an honor sir.
"Turns our Lily doesn't need me here anymore." I say.
"Neither does Jase." Sylvester says, putting away his phone.
"Thanks for sitting with me, even though you probably hated it." He says, nervously laughing.
"Worst lunch of my life." I say, playfully rolling my eyes.
We both stand up and head towards the exit. "You know, you're not the worst company." I say.
"Neither are you, Amelia." He adds.
He opens the door for me, and I say, "See you at school." He waves and we separate in the parking lot.
