After being in the office for about five minutes, attorney john came out again, he took one look at me and then left. All of them were just incredibly weird,it made me somehow wish I didn't take the job, Anna was in the office until it was time to close though,it made me feel weird,I considered going in to tell him I was leaving but i decided against it,if he didn't need me the whole day,he wouldn't need me now.I packed my stuff into my bag,took one final look at the door and then left the building, I was waiting for a cab when I got a notification on my phone,it was Micheal. I wanted to ignore the message for a while,but I quickly got curious and unlocked my phone.
You left?
I wanted to scoff out loud,he literally didn't talk to me all day after embarrassing me and he's surprised I left? Asshole
Was I supposed to wait? You seemed busy. Also my work hours are over
I wanted to talk to you,and I figured it would be better in person.
I contemplated going back inside,but then a cab stopped in front of me,so I entered and replied immediately.
You had all day Mr Lancaster. Tell me now or it can wait.
Don't do that,we agreed you'll call me Michael from now on.
I stared at his message for a while,unsure what to say,I didn't feel like being nice yet but I also somehow wanted us to be somewhat close. He was still my boss after all,nosy asshole or not.
Is it important Michael?.
I have to do some investigations for my recent case,and I'm traveling tomorrow to do it,I need you to come with and help me out.
How many days will the trip be for?
Just tomorrow,we'll get back in the evening,I'll come pick you up by 8am tomorrow.
I wanted to tell him that he didn't have to do that but then I realized that it was probably easier that he picked me up himself,I also wanted to ask if I needed to dress casual or not,but all of that would just make him assume we were close friends again,so instead I just replied

It was only after I got a job at the firm that I started worrying about what to wear,I had being shuffling through my wardrobe for about an hour and I officially decided I had nothing to wear and fell on the bed exhausted, Michael was going to be here in 30 minutes and I felt like a mess,would canceling be okay?Can you even cancel on your own boss? I got up from the bed and walked to the living room realizing I needed help, Jen was too busy,but Gracie was around,she came over to help Jason "get ready for the restaurant" but I figured she just wanted to see him, she was on the chair watching TV.
"I'm going to get fired" I said as i walked closer to her. She looked up with genuine concern.
"Wait what?"
"I have a business trip in 30 minutes and I have no idea what to wear"I whined and she chuckled.
"You should have led with that,come on."She said and I followed her, After about five minutes,she pulled out a black dress and I gasped.
"It's like you do magic Gracie" I said gratefully and she giggled and then she left for me to get dressed
I put on the dress and combed my hair before packing it into a ponytail,I was done in the next ten minutes. I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. The dress was modest enough,it was only a little above my knee and it wasn't very tight so it was perfect,I took my bag and walked to the kitchen,Jason was cooking.
" My favorite chef" I greeted and he smiled.
"I'm going to go wait outside the house just in case he finds it hard to find our apartment" I said and Jason nodded,then he widened his eyes like he just remembered something.
"By the way,I've been looking into your boss,and...." He started and I rolled my eyes stronger than I think I had ever done.
"Jesus,Jay,I told you,apart from being a know-it-all, Micheal is not a bad guy,can you please stop? I'm trying to keep a job here"
"He went to jenny's school!" Jason insisted and I sighed.
"I know,that part was dumb,but he's not a bad guy,he was only trying to help" I replied and he scoffed.
"We don't need his help"
"I know,I already told him that,Jason we're good" I maintained and Jason sighed. I hugged him.
"You're the sweetest,you know?"
"Yeah yeah,I know" Jason replied and I giggled, I then said goodbye to Jen and Gracie and left to wait in front of the apartment.
And right on time,his car pulled up and stopped the car right in front of me. He got down and came over to open the door of the car for me and my heart skipped a beat,I tried to maintain a normal expression because letting this man's weird niceness wash over since he already stated he was doing it out of charity. I sat down as he closed the door and entered the car as well all the while not exchanging eye contact.
" Good morning" He greeted, turning to me with a smile, I guess he chose to pretend the other day didn't happen then.
"Good morning" I replied and turned away,maybe it was the dream I had but looking straight at him felt awkward now.
"We'll be driving there, and I understand if you would prefer to sleep,I brought a sleep mask that you can use if that's the case" He said slowly and I nodded. Sleeping would definitely spare me from all the awkwardness. He took a sleep mask from the back seat and gave it to me and without argument,I put it on and tried my best to sleep.
When I finally woke up,I was in an unknown place and Michael was no longer in the car,I was about to start panicking when I saw a note on the car dashboard,it read:
"You were sleeping so peacefully and I didn't want to wake you up,i'm in the building in front of you talking to a family.You don't have to come in,I'll be done as soon as I can and then we can go back home."
I read the note over and over again,if he didn't need my help,why did he ask me to come over?I traced the words on the note,at least he had a nice handwriting. I checked the time in front of me,I had been asleep for 3 hours. Fuck,if he wasn't such a nice person,he probably would have fired me and I wouldn't even blame him. I looked at the building in front and it was an apartment building,I contemplated going inside but decided against it,he wanted me to wait,so I'll do just that.
But I waited for a really long time,I waited for so long,I almost fell asleep again,at a point I got out of the car to stretch my legs but he didn't come out of the building. Hours later, around 5pm in the evening,I finally saw him approaching the car and my anger doubled. Asshole. He entered the car looking completely apologetic.
"I am so sorry,I didn't think I would stay that long" He apologized and I sighed.
"You should have woken me up at least, why would you leave me alone in the car like that?" I demanded
"I wasn't thinking straight,I'm sorry" He replied,voice gentle,I had so much more to say but for some reason,I wasn't all that angry anymore. I turned away.
"Sure" I said firmly.
"I'm going to drive us to a restaurant now before we go home,I figured you might be hungry? The restaurant us supposed to be really good" He continued and I nodded in reply. A few minutes later,we were in front of some fancy restaurant and he came to open my car seat as usual. I frowned.
"I don't like this" I declared and he raised his brow in confusion
"You don't like me opening the door for you?"
"No,I feel like the entire day,I've been doing everything you ask me to do,I don't like it,I want you to know that I'm angry at you" I replied to my own surprise and he smirked.
"Is it because of the other day? I already apologized"
"It wasn't enough"
"Okay,what do you want me to do? What will make our friendship normal again?" He demanded gently and I thought about it then looked him straight in the eye.
"Apologize again" I replied and he chuckled.
"I'm not joking"
"Okay, I'm very sorry for overstepping my boundaries and going to see your sister, I promise to not go that far any more,and I'm also sorry for accidentally making you follow all my orders today" He apologized, saying the last part in a sarcastic way, I smiled feeling somehow better and then nodded.
"We're good again" I said and he smiled.
"Can we go eat now?" He asked and I nodded and followed him into the restaurant.we both ordered pasta and got to eating immediately,I realized how hungry I was. While eating,he asked.
"What if I want to do things for you because I care about our friendship?" And because I didn't feel like arguing,I replied.
"Go ahead and do things,but just know the limits" I replied and he nodded, After I finished my food,I looked outside the window of the restaurant and noticed that the clouds had begun to gather and it was getting dark, so we returned to the car so we wouldn't get caught by the rain,no long after Micheal started driving,the rain started in full effect and he immediately packed the car looking like he was about to have a panic attack.
"Hey are you okay?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yeah, let's just wait until the rain stops before we continue driving" He replied and I nodded affirmatively
