Chapter 28

Hours passed by, the sisters journeyed deeper, Ammit leading the way. The path to the underworld became nearer and she could sense it. The sisters walked together in unison, their eyes scanning the woods in curiosity.
Ammit went over to Allocen collecting the map from her. She scanned it thoroughly, her red eyes glinting as thoughts went through her mind. Looking up at her sister, she turned her gaze to a direction, "We are heading to the Turkmenistan desert, we will get to the portal of hell through there" she notified wrapping the map and handing it to Allocen.
Maria glanced at Ammit as they began to saunter, deep inside her, she could feel that they are nearer to the underworld, a burning heat began to whirl inside her, her chest cracking in pain. Holding the pain, Maria looked at her sisters in front of her trying to hide the pain as every step she took became so heavy for her. As they walk past the woods into the desert, Maria's head began to pound loudly, she felt her ears begin to pop violently, she placed both hands on her head to ease the pain but it grew worst. She began to feel dizzy, the desert wind was not helping at all but only added to her misery. All of a sudden, she saw a picture flash through her like a flashback, screaming, she fell to the floor as her sisters turned back in awe. Allocen ran beside her attempting to wake her up but all to no avail.
Ammit walked closer, her eyes studying Maria's face, she bent down towards Allocen, her right hand cupping Maria's face, "She felt something" Ammit mumbled looking up to her sisters.
Standing up, she carried Maria in her arms gesturing her sisters to follow suit as they continued their journey.
Maria tried opening her eyes but couldn't, she could not hear a word around her, it was like she was floating with no point of direction. Her body could not contain a certain force. The dessert, everything here looked familiar like she has been here before. She feels her body is being drawn to a magnetic force she couldn't discern. Maria tried opening her eyes once more but she couldn't, she began to feel weak, her breath slowing down as seconds passed by, slowly she drifted off into a deep slumber.
Ammit held unto Maria tightly as they walked on the deserted sand. She knows what's happening to Maria. Looking up at the sky, a smile came to her face. The time is almost near, she could feel Lucifer's eyes on them as they walked towards the underworld. Her eyes glanced back at Maria, she scoffed nodding her head. By the time she is awake, her demon blood would have arisen fully, the hidden blood of the prince of hell is growing slowly causing her to faint because her human body can't consume the fierce fire that is about to approach her.
Knowing the fact that Maria will possess more powers than her, Ammit felt jealous as her forehead hardened. She is the first and supposed to be the greatest among them all. "Why Maria?, a poor naive nun who doesn't even know her left from her right" Ammit asked herself as different thoughts went through her mind. She has been in existence for the past 200 years and she is well active than any of her sisters. She alone has come in contact with Lucifer but none of her sisters has. Why can't she be the greatest, possessing all powers, she knows everything about the underworld, she has watched men fall into sin due to her father's works and temptations. She knows Lucifer better than anyone else and has always dreamed to be the greatest among her sisters, not Maria.
Shoving her thoughts aside, the sisters got closer to the end of the dessert. A mighty wind began to blow but the sisters were strong enough to walk on the sand as the dry wind blew fiercely without mercy. Ammit held unto Maria who laid helplessly in her arms.
Hours passed by, the sisters stepped out of the desert into a dry land filled with nothing but black sand. Ravens stood on burnt trees scowling fiercely, the atmosphere quickly changed as the cloud turned dark in fear. A soft but harsh wind blew almost knocking the sisters off their feet. Holding hands together, they walked further, thick darkness covering them. Lightening passed through the sky accompanied by a brutal thunder that shook the ground. But with their unity, the sisters walked through holding hands as they stared forward to the direction they were heading to, the vicious wind blowing dust on their faces.
"We have to get past this without falling" Ammit yelled loudly, the loud wind roared tirelessly. She held Maria in one hand and Allocen in the other, their fingers locking together. Suddenly, An earthquake overtook the land where they stood. Using her powers, Ammit made the earth stay still but cracks began to show indicating its impatience. She urged her sisters to go before her, quickly, they walked through the land one after the other. Making sure all her sisters have passed through safely, Ammit walked over it and immediately she left the spot, the earthquake happened again breaking the ground as a thick liquid fire was seen sprouting out of it.
The sisters wandered the more going towards a direction, slowly, the strong wind reduced its pace, it blew softly and the trembling ground returned to normal. The sisters glanced at themselves one after the other with a smile of relief on their faces.
"Come sisters, our journey has come to an end" Ammit acknowledged, she peeked her gaze at Maria whose eyes were tightly shut. Looking up, she walked towards a direction, her sisters followed behind. Glaring over, a few feet above them, the sisters saw a river, their pace increased, step by step they got closer to it.
Staying at the edge of the river was a strange tall man with a daunting figure dressed in black but had his cloth over his head that his face could not be seen, his hands were like the hands of a deserted corpse with no flesh indicating the sign of death. He stood on a small boat with a long stick in his hand which was dipped into the river for paddling. The small boat and the stick were decorated with the skulls of humans, darkness overtook the atmosphere, a small lamp was placed on the paddle stick giving them little light to see through. Thick clouds were seen above the river, the gloom of the river added more to the strange man's frightening look.
Ammit walked closer to the man who stood still not looking at them. He kept silent and strutted still like he was dead. Getting closer to him, Ammit bowed slightly, "Great Hadraniel, the mighty demon who transports damaged souls" She acknowledged with her head bowed.
Slowly, the man looked in her direction and nodded his head as a sign that the sisters should enter the boat. Ammit turned back to her sisters, one after the other, they got on the boat and Hadraniel began to paddle slowly as he crossed them from the land of the living to the land of the dead.
The boat floated slowly on the river as they went across, Ammit glanced at Hadraniel who stood still not saying a word to them. Her sisters scanned around, glaring at each other, they nodded softly, not saying a word, each of them had a serious expression on their face.
After a few minutes ride, they got to the end of the river. Carefully, the sisters came out one after the other. Ammit came out last, she turned her gaze to Hadraniel and bowed slowly.
Hadraniel nodded and paddled his boat away towards the other side of the river as he waited for souls who were destined to go to hell.
Glancing at her sisters, Ammit looked forward and saw a long bridge ahead of them, the bridge which leads to the gate of hell. She held Maria tightly in both hands. Without saying a word, the sisters stepped their feet together on the bridge as they could hear the scream of trapped souls along with the burning heat of the intense fire that drew them closer.
