Darren's POV Our college Achievement Day had finally arrived, and everyone felt excited. The first day started with a parade followed by an opening ceremony. In the evening would be the Literary and Musical Contest, and the remaining days would be dedicated to ballgames. It was already 7:00 pm, and my groupmates and I were settled in the university gym, ready for the evening's events. But Jeyah was still not around. "Bubs, where's Jeyah?" I asked Clarrise, hoping she had some information. "I don't know, bubs. I tried calling her, but she didn't answer," Clarrise replied, her eyes roaming around. "Maybe she is on her way, don't worry." Jeyah's absence made me uneasy. I giddily looked at my watch, and it was almost 7:30. The program would start at 8:00, but she was nowhere to be found. I took my cellphone and tried contacting her, but her phone just kept on ringing. "Bridgette's here, but I think she hasn't noticed us yet," Eduard whispered. "Just ignore her. There are so many people around. I think we're safe from her notice," I responded. "I don't care about her, I just want Jeyah here, so our group would be complete." "Uhm, bubs, we already sensed you. You really feel something for Jeyah, don't you?" Angela butted in. I was stunned into silence. But even if I couldn't find words, my groupmates knew me well. "Go ahead, bubs, you know that we are here to support you," Clarrise said. "But we have our group rules, and I couldn't afford to break them," I sighed. Andrew, who was sitting next to me on my left, tapped my shoulder. "Bubs, in every rule there's always an exemption. If you really love Jeyah, then go for it." My groupmates nodded in approval. "Yes, bubs, after all, we are all friends, your happiness is our happiness too." When the emcee announced that the program was about to start, my heart suddenly beat fast. "Bubs, has Jeyah contacted you?" I asked Clarrise. "Uh, yeah. She just texted me that she can't make it because she's not feeling well," Clarrise said, showing us the message from Jeyah. I was a little upset that she could not be able to come, but I was also worried about her health. I wished to call her, but it was too noisy inside, so I just texted her instead. The program was underway, but my heart started pounding in my chest, especially when the musical contest began. Music was my passion, so this part of the program was the highlight for me. "Hey, who is the singing contestant from our department, bubs?" I asked Eduard curiously. "No clue, bubs. I didn't even bother asking," Angela replied. "What about yours, bubs?" I turned to Clarrise. "No idea, bubs. Let's just wait and see later," she responded with a smile. A hush fell over the crowd as the emcee announced. "Before moving on to the next contestant, let's have first a song intermission number." My heart was beating faster even more as soon as I heard the intro of the song. How would I not know it when it was my most favorite song? "Bubs, you seem so uneasy. Are you okay?" Angela asked. "I guess it's your song, bubs, right?" I did not respond. I was just waiting for the contender to sing the first stanza of the song. A sense of panic washed over me when I could hear a familiar voice. "Jewel?" I exclaimed. "Bubs, is it not Jewel's voice?" Angela spoke. "Jewel? You mean the one you were always watching on livestream?" my groupmates exclaimed in chorus. "Yes... it's her voice. So it means Jewel is studying here at UP," I gasped. "This is unbelievable." "But why is she not showing her face?" Angela asked. Hearing her voice, I felt a surge of joy. I didn't even notice my hands were slick with sweat. But when the song hit the chorus and the performer moved to the center of the stage, my jaw dropped in astonishment. "Oh my God!" I gasped, completely frozen. The mysterious livestreamer, Jewel, was no other than Jeyah! ******* Jeyah's POV I couldn't believe it when the program committee approached me and asked if I would sing an intermission song during the Literary and Musical Contest. I hesitated at first, but then I realized it was a chance for me to step out of my comfort zone. After thinking it over carefully, I agreed, but I did not tell anyone about it, not even my brother and my close friend Clarrise. I chose my favorite song, "What About Love." The moment finally arrived, and my nerves were a tangled mess. It was 7:00 pm, and my groupmates were already at the gym, while I was pacing back and forth in my room at home. I couldn't help but feel anxious knowing Darren would be in the audience. But I had already agreed, and there was no turning back. I quickly got dressed, checked my reflection, and pulled out of the driveway. My brother was at a business meeting, but I had told him about the school activity beforehand. Thirty minutes later, I arrived at UP Diliman campus, and on my way to the gymnasium. Instead of passing through at the main entrance, I used the door at the back so no one would notice me. The emcee looked at me and smiled. "Am I late?" I asked. "No. You're just in time," she responded. The program started, and my heart also began to beat fast. I stayed at the backstage, peering out at the audience. My gaze scanned the crowd until I spotted my groupmates sitting on the bleachers. I knew they were already wondering why I wasn't joining them, but I only texted Charisse that I was not feeling well. When it was already my time to perform, I suddenly felt so nervous because I was not used to this kind of exposure. But I was thinking, maybe it was time for me to get out of my shell and overcome my fear. Cheers and yells echoed through the place, especially when I started singing the first stanza of the song. I remained at the backstage for a while, and when I reached the chorus, I moved forward to the center of the stage.
