CHAPTER 12 : BACKSTORY

"Hey, you lost to our game. What a weak man, dude." Bricx teases Lance as they get out of the internet café. "That was a nice game. I smashed your hero with my full combat power. Sorry, my hands are too cool for you." he added.
They just finished their game, and Bricx was able to defeat Lance. The game ended with the Bricx team winning the whole game.
"You know that I am good, it is just that my teammates were dumb," Lance complained. "Why are they even playing when they are not that good? Their skins are just a display; they do not know how to play well. What a losers." he added.
The young Lance and Bricx were walking on the way to the bus stop. After their class, they headed to the internet café to play, and now that their time has ended, it is time for them to go home.
"I know what you are pointing out. Based on the game a while ago, I can tell that they are just one of those rich brats who just asked their parents to buy those cool skins. But sadly, even though they got cool skins, they were still losers in the battle." Bricx explained. "Better luck next time, dude. You must find a better team." He added.
Lance nodded eagerly. "I will make sure to return to my glory. I need to find a better team first. I won't lose to you again next time. Remember that." He warned.
"Oh, feisty! Then I am looking forward to that, mate. Do not let me smack you down again." He commented.
"Tell me your dare now." Lance told Bricx. "Do not go easy on me. I will accept your dare, whatever it is. As long as it is not dirty." he added.
Bricx turned to his friend excitedly, "Right. You lost at the right time. You know what, I heard from our classmates that there was a hunted house at the Alta." he shared. "They shared that there is a ghost there and no one is living there at all, but it feels like the house was occupied. Hearing it is already scary." He added.
Lance looked at his friend. "What? Do you want me to go there and see if it is true or not?" He asked back. "What am I? A tester of your fear? Are you just using me to know whether it is true or not?"
Bricx nodded. "You got it right, mate!" He answered, laughing. "Why would I go and see it when you can do it for me in the first place?" he retorted. "That is why I told you that you lost at the right time. Do you think you can go there alone and see? I do not think you can." He teased again.
He sighed at his friend's craziness. "I do not mind going there," Lance replied with confidence. "I have been into many horror houses and I have watched too many horror movies. Adding one is not that hard anymore." he boasted.
Bricx grinned at his friend. He finds Lance brave and tickles him. "You've got to be kidding me. Then do it, send proof of evidence. If you can't do it, just buy me my favorites and we are settled." He said.
"Okay, no problem. Just wait and see." Lance replied calmly.
When they got home, Lance quickly took a short bath and changed into comfortable clothes. He headed to their parking lot and got out of his bicycle, heading to the Alta.
It only took him half an hour to reach the haunted house, Bricx was saying.
"This is not even scary at all" said the young man calmly to himself and looked around.
Staring outside the house was not scary at all. Well, the house looks old from the outside, and since the house is at the end of the Alta, it can really be scary at night.
"Where's the floating coffin? That bastard thought I was weak, didn't he? A floating coffin in his ass." he said angrily. "There is nothing to be scared of here. It is just a normal old house. I don't get any eerie vibes from it either. Why does he easily believe our classmates?" He complained.
He couldn't believe he did what his best friend told him to. Because he lost the game and felt like he needed to be strong to show his friend that he was not scared at all, he did this dare.
He would not dare go and buy Bricx's favorite food because that would only mean that he was scared and did not go to the Alta.
The young man approached the house slowly, listening to see if anyone was living inside or if he could hear a noise from inside the house.
"I have to make sure of my revenge after this. One proof and I will go kill that bastard." He said and knocked on the door a few times.
He was not afraid of ghosts or any other paranormal things. He enjoys things like this. Boys like him love this kind of adventure, so there is no way he will back out. It feels like he is just entering a newly built asylum and he just needs to enter, walk steadily, and be able to go out alive and strong. He just wanted to prove to his friend that it was not real and was just a fabrication of someone.
He was waiting for someone to open the door, but no one opened it. Half a second later, he decided to leave because there was nothing true about what was said and who spread the rumors about it.
This house is said to be infested with evil elements and people who are not like them. It is also rumored that someone saw a floating coffin near the house. Others say that someone lives here but that there is a witch and that whoever goes here by mistake will never be able to leave again.
But it seems like it was just a rumor started by his classmates. Or maybe they made it for Bricx to prank him.
"Is anyone there?" the young man shouted when he heard a noise from inside the house.
He tried to turn the doorknob, but it failed to open. He went to the side of the house to see if there was a window to see what was inside.
A while ago, he was bored to death because it might be a trick. But after hearing a noise inside the house, he felt an adrenaline rush and wanted to check whether it was true or not.
"I could really say that this house is really weird. One door and one... uhh. window near its roof?" He said this as he became curious about what was inside the house.
He jumped out of the window and clung to it. There is no barrier to the window or anything. He forced himself to lift his body to fit the small window. He was stunned to see it was clean and realized that someone was living here. There are things like furniture and appliances that are not like the ones he heard from his friend. He finds the window more amusing because it looks like it has no bars.
Who would make this kind of window? A small freaking window near the roof? Only this crazy house he is in.
He entered the house and took some pictures before calling his friend immediately.
"Bastard, the house you are referring to is not really a hunted house. Who told you to believe those kinds of things? I will bury them for you!" He said the moment Bricx answered his call.
"How can you say that?" Bricx asked. "Why? Did you check it already?" he added, trying to know if his friend really did what he said a while ago.
"Yeah. I am checking the house. I am currently inside the house. I sneaked in. It's a normal house and someone is living here. No floating coffin or any paranormal things." Lance explained what he was seeing inside the house.
Bricx panicked and said, "Lance, get out now. It is dangerous; you are invading the house without the consent of the owner." he rebuked, on the other line. Warning his friend that he may get into trouble.
"I know, Bricx. See you later." he replied, and ended the call right after to avoid getting an earful of sermon.
He knows and he can feel that his friend is about to give him a lecture. So instead of hearing the unending sermon of his friend, he decided to end the call.
"Who's weak now? Tss," Lance laughed and faced the small window again to go out. He was about to go up to the window when he heard a noise. "Come out." he said boldly, and turned to find the source of the noise.
It sounds like a noisy chain. There are only two rooms in the house. He went to the first room and opened it, but there was no one or anything inside, so he closed it again. He approached the second room, hesitant about whether to open it or not, thinking that someone might meet him when he opened it. Eventually, he turned the handle and opened it slowly. He heard the loud sound of chains in the darkened room.
"Hey, aren't you going to smack me? I sneaked in, you know?" Lance approached the woman in the corner and asked if she could see him.
He did not receive an answer from her. He reached for the room light to turn it on. He looked back at the woman who he saw and was shocked by what he saw.
It was a woman with chains on her feet, dirty clothes, and wounds on her body. The woman who was looking at him was scared.
"W-why are you like that?" he asked the woman. "Are you okay?" he asked again, but he was not able to receive any reply from her.
He was about to approach the woman, but the more he stepped forward, the more the woman pressed herself into the corner and sobbed softly. Lance was stunned and looked at the woman.
"I won't hurt you. Okay? Trust me," Lance said, and slowly approached the woman. He held out his hand and smiled at the woman. " I won't hurt you, I am Lance." he introduced himself.
The woman slowly pointed her index finger at the man's hand. The woman smiled when she confirmed that this man was real.
"So... do you trust me now?" he asked the woman, but she only answered with a look. "Do you trust me now? I did not hurt you, did I?" Lance asked the woman. "If yes, nod your head as a sign that you understand me. If you do not understand me, shake your head." he said, and demoed to the woman.
The woman nodded her head, as a sign that she understood what the young man was telling her.
"You can't speak?" he asked again and received a nod from the woman.
Lance stared at the woman in front of her and saw her intently.
"You are too pretty to be treated like this. You are not even a dog or what." Lance said and he could not help but pity her when he looked at the woman's condition.
The woman shook her head, unable to understand what Lance had said. The woman was beautiful. She had a white complexion, had a gentle face and long curly hair, but she was thin and had a chain on her leg locked to the floor. He also noticed the wounds on her body, whether they were new or not.
"Who's with you here? Your mother?" Lance asked, and the woman nodded. "Did she do this to you?" Lance asked, and the woman nodded again. "Why?" he asked, but the woman did not answer. "Is your mom hurting you?" he asked, and the woman shook her head.
'You are not hurt by your mother, but you are like this, and you have a lot of wounds' Lance said in his mind.
He would have asked the woman when he received a call from her mother.
"I need to go first." he said goodbye to the woman and left the room.
He jumped out the window again to get out. He looked at the house again before finally returning to the bicycle parked nearby.
