Chapter 8
Nora's pov
I turned to see him crossing the road. I held my heart cause it felt like it'ss gonna jump out any second. Today just got better.
Getting inside, I could hear whimpering from inside as I walked in.
"Stacy! What's wrong?" I rushed to reach her but She cried more, choking on her tears. "
"Stacy! dear" I kept staring at her.
"It's Stanley!" She uttered despondently
"Uh hum!"
"Stanley cheated on me, I saw him smooching one girl in the shop beside the cafeteria."
"Stanley!" I growled, gritting my teeth
"He saw me but kept quiet, doesn't that show that he cares less about our relationship, why would he do that to me? Knowing how much I love him."
She covered her face as she continued crying.
"Com'on baby girl, I held up her face. Remember, crying makes you less of the princess you are, You want to turn into some old grumpy ugly frog?"
Suddenly, Her sad expression disappeared while she averted her gaze at me. I used my face to demonstrate how the frog would look like, with my tongue out and hands on the air. She chortled. Phew, got her.
I held her shoulder,
"you are daddy's princess and you should know that. No guy should make you feel so bad. Be brave and show him, who's boss. Ok? Promise me that you wont cry again."
"I wont, I cross my heart." She replied with her hands crossed on her chest.
"That's my princess." She lay down on her bed while I cover her with her duvet.
I freshened up, ate a piece of pie with a warm glass of milk. I scampered to my bed and covered myself with my duvet. I remembered Dylan's heroic act today and blushed hard. The way he hugged me, patted me, stared at me, wiped my lips.
"Awwwn! He's such a gentle man. It's so unfortunate he has that witch of a girlfriend. He'd say they weren't dating but the way they acted says a different thing. If she hurts him, she will definitely get it from me." I clenched my fist.
Only the thought of him filled my mind. I closed my eyes giggling quietly as ever trying not to wake stacy. Immediately, my phone rang.
Dylan's pov.
Seeing her shed much tears. It kept me wondering what really happened to her. I picked up my phone and dialled her number.
"Hi"
"Hi" she replied.
"Thought you would've been asleep by now."
"Not really"
"I hope you aint crying again?" I sat down perfectly holding onto my duvet
"No . I'm not." She sniffed
"Ooook, sorry for the late call."
"No ...no its nice, I mean its cool." She said
"See you tomorrow then. Yup.p! I said, popping the last "p" which made her giggle over the phone.
"Good night" she said
Sleep tight" I replied, dropping my phone.
She's such a nice person" I mumbled. Smiling, I closed my eyes for a good night rest.

Third person's' Pov
Its been quite a while since Nora saw Dylan. After Dylan's heroic deed. She has been dreaming of him. It troubled her and she wished everyday to see him. None of his calls came in though being desperate she couldn't get herself to call. Her class today starts by 10am. Nora entered the class and sat down all gloomy with her hand supporting her chin. Few minutes later, Mr Lance their Lecturer stepped in and began his lecture.
-------------
"That's it for today." Mr Lance restorted
"Gosh! That man almost bored me to death, I thought the class won't end." Nora gasped packing her materials inside her bag. She had planned earlier to study in the library, standing up she left.
"Your card?" A young lady requested
"Ooh!" She dipped her hand into her bag, bringing out a rectangular shaped card for the lady to see.
After series of observation, the librarian handed the card to her, gesturing her to the library. She moved slowly, checking out each shelf filled with books. Standing in front of a particular shelf,
"There goes my baby!" she pulled out a book, smiling broadly at it. The mystical isles" we meet again. She chuckled and made to leave when something caught her attention. She leaned over the shelf, looking through the space created in the shelf, her eyes caught Dylan. Her dream just came to reality. She stared with so much admiration, Watching him closely as he selects books of his choice.
Suddenly, Dylan's gaze met hers, she jolted and her bag fell down while her books spread on the floor. He rushed to where she was,
"Are you ok? He asked obviously worried.
"Yes... I'm fine." She stammered.
He bent down and picked up some materials close to him, standing up, he hands them over to her.
"Thanks." She said.
"What brought you to the library? Especially this section?" He asked putting on one of his cutest smiles.
"This" she pointed to the only book on the floor which was beside her. Dylan moved towards the book, bending down, he picked up the book and stared in amazement.
"You read this type of story? I thought girls despise such story line?" He asks bewildered
"Yes, most girls, but everyone has his or her preferences." She shrugged.
"Wait, you mean that you like the punching, fighting, killing and all those bloody stuff?"
"Don't make it sound like it's weird for me to pick interest in such stuff. There's the magical side too, the creatures and myths"She nudged him and smiled gently.
"You are one unique girl!" He said looking at her.
Her cheeks turned a bit red and Dylan didn't fail to notice.
"Alright! Care to read with me? He asked
"Sure! She replied abruptly. He led the way to a small table alongside chairs. There, they sat, trying to get whatever books they were with. Nora couldn't concentrate, she kept on stealing glances at him.
What's wrong with me? Why am I feeling this way towards him? She thought to herself, with her heart palpitating.
"Any problem?" He asked
"Huh? She replied quite confused
"I mean, you have been staring at me for some seconds now." He mouthed
"Oh! I'm sorry, I was kind of lost in my silly thoughts" she giggled, swiping the pages of the book awkwardly
"No problem! Can we talk about something else? He asked
"Like?" She closed her book abruptly
How was your high school? He stared at her while he asked
"That! Meldis high, it is one heck of a school. Bullies were everywhere but thanks to Stacy, i had some lovely time and experience." She smiled at the mention of "Stacy"
"Bullies, huh? Have you been bullied before?" He asked
She hesitated before answering bitting her fingers calmly.
"Yes, as a transferred student, I don't know whether it's a norm for the famous guys and bitches in the school. Seeing how calm I was, they almost turn me to an errand girl. The last time, I vehemently refused, they caught up with me, threw eggs and fresh tomatoes at me. Laughing like it is the best game ever. My uniform was badly stained and I smiled gross." She sniffs
"Ouch!" He exclaimed inaudibly
"One of the popular guys pitied me and made to help but his gang dragged him back, even though he cared, he didn't want to lose his friends. He later snuck out, locating Stacy, he told her of the incident.
After few minutes, She ran to where I was, crying as ever. Dusting my uniform, she pulled me up. Cleaned my face with... he...r hand...kerchief... she stammered as she began to sob softly.
Dylan stood up and dragged his chair close to her. Her face still fixated at her book. He reached for her hand and held it softly.
"Your precious tears aren't meant to be wasted on irrelevant past incident. Could you imagine if Stacy wasn't there at the time or if that boy...
"Grant!" She interjected
"Oh Grant." He said. "Ok... assuming he didn't reach out to Stacy. You would perhaps be badly wounded or pretty sick but because you're such a precious girl, unique in everyway, the universe sent people to your aid when everyone laughed and ignored you" he held her hands and she stared at him in amazement and full admiration. She released her hands from Dylan's and hugged him. His eyes widened, obviously shocked. He could feel his shoulder becoming wet from the tears that trailed down her cheeks. He pats her back gently assuring her that everything will be alright.
Suddenly, a phone rang, breaking off their hug. Dylan brought out his phone and stared at his screen. Lillian was boldly seen on the screen with heart emoji beside the name.
"Excuse me" he requested
She nodded and kept mute, cleaning her face.
"Hi lily.. so her name is Lillian. Nora thought to herself. He even gave her a nick name "lily" she mumbled
"Ok, I will be there shortly. He kept his phone and stared at her. He tucked her glossy hair at the back of her ear as their faces were few each inches away.
"Sorry." he pulled back. "but I think it's time for me to leave, he ruffled his hair as he spoke.
"Don't worry, I get it, your girlfriend is calling you." She blurted
"She's not my girlfriend..." he said with a slight confused look.
"Then She is?" She asked.
"I don't know" he stood up abruptly and mumbled a bye to Nora. He made to leave but turned to her,
"Promise me one thing" he said
Huh? She lifted her face
Please, don't cry, ...please." He pleaded and left.
Why is life so unfair? She asked no one in particular as she felt her heart throbbing. She bent down and sobbed gently.Download Novelah App
