Chapter 7
NORA'S POV
Reaching the restaurant, I ran inside the changing room to get ready for the day's work. I came out and went to the customers, getting their orders. I sighted a familiar face, looking closely, the blondie girl came to view. She was chatting with a lady who I presume to be her friend with full pride written all over her body.
I became angry for some moments and the worst of all, I have to get her orders. I scurried to where she was.
"Hi dear, welcome to 5-star restaurant, how may I be of help?" I asked forcing a smile. She stopped her discussion and stared at me in the most unlikely manner.
"Huh! Isn't it Dylan's fan girl?" She asked with a tone of mockery. I almost rolled my eyes at her but I held it in.
"What would you like? I asked with a tight-lipped smile
"I would like some beer and chicken. Please be careful with the meal, I won't like to see some unwanted items in the sauce." Her eyes roamed from my head to toe with a disgusted look.
I heaved a breath and left for the order. Who does she think she is, huh? I asked no one in particular. I was fuming in anger. I got a tray, placed a bottle of beer and a small bowl filled with chicken and its sauce.
I headed to her table when the worst happened. I was about to lay the tray on the table when someone bumped into me and a chunk of the sauce splashed on her face. My jaw dropped and my eyes widened as ever.
OMG! I picked up a serviette and tried cleaning her face when she spat angrily, halting me in the process.
"You! Dimwit. How dare you?" She growled with her eyes shut.
Her friend bolted forward like hot water has been splashed on her and cleaned her face with a white handkerchief.
She managed to open her eyes. "Are you daft? Can't you do things appropriately or is that how you are trained?" She looked pretty annoyed and had a scowl on her face. "Ooh, I see. You want to damage my spotless skin, seeing as yours is as pale as ever." She scoffed
I bowed and muttered a "sorry" A tear escaped from my eyes as I faced the floor to avoid people seeing my teary eyes.
"Please miss, I'm sorry," I mumbled
People's eyes were on us because of the much attention she was creating. I couldn't hold back my tears, their fell continuously while I stood shakily, wishing to disappear anyhow possible. Miss Olivia ran to the table.
"Please miss, she would never do such again. We are deeply sorry for that." She pleaded.
The blondie girl sighed and moved her hands in the air, indicating she was ok.
I left with miss Olivia to the changing room. I couldn't stop crying, I let out all I held, feeling so inferior and useless.
"Clumsiness won't solve issues dear, you got to be careful next time." She pats me, with a smile on her face.
"Thank your stars, Mrs Wilson ain't here." She gasped. She paced a little.
"it's past 9, I think you should get going, you can't continue this way. Change and leave through the back door, I will handle the matter with her completely. Stop crying." She grinned and left
I wiped my tears and changed into my normal clothes. I left through the back door. Staggering as I walk. I kept on twisting my fingers thinking about what happened.
"Hey!" I turned to see a group of boys coming to me. They seemed a bit drunk because they reek of alcohol. I tried to move backwards, but instead my back met a tree and I leaned on it.
A boy among them stared at me lustfully. He focused on my thighs which were partially exposed because of how I leaned on the tree. He made to raise my gown but I yanked off his hand.
"Don't touch me." I spat angrily.
"One tough bitch huh?" He turned to his crew only for them to laugh maniacally. The next thing I knew, was a slap landing directly on my face. They laughed the more. He held my neck a bit tight, pulling my face directly at him. I kept struggling but instead, they kept on laughing.
Could this day get any worse, I thought as tears welled up in my eyes
He leaned for a kiss, but suddenly got hit by a plank. He fell to the ground and I breathed heavily, so relieved and shocked. The boys turned to see the person who interrupted their evil agenda. I squinted my eyes to see who my knight in shining armour was. Only to see who I least expected. Dylan!
The boys rushed him and thanks to that plank. They got hit one after the other, falling to the ground like leaves. The last remaining got a huge punch on his face which made his nose bleed profusely. Dylan held my hand and dragged me out.
Dylan's Pov
The starry sky was aglow with dazzling street lights. The pale crescent moon shone like a silvery claw in the sky. I lifted my face to the blanket of stars that stretched to infinity. The occasional barking of the faraway dogs broke the silence of the night. People were still outside attending to diverse activities. This part of the city is sure fun to be in. I couldn't get more of it from my balcony. I decided to dress up and take a walk down my new area. As I was walking, I felt the breeze swoop right at me. I was so happy that I came down to take a walk. I was about to pass a field when I heard a girl screaming. I traced the voice I heard and got there to see a girl surrounded by a group of boys. She was struggling but she kind of looked familiar. I took a closer look and behold it was Nora. I searched around my corner to see a plank laying close by the trash container. "Yikes" I picked it up and headed for the field. When I got there, unknown to them. I used the plank on the boys and dragged Nora out of there before they probably wake up.
I dragged her to the park and made her sit. I sat close to her, studying her carefully.
"Did they hurt you?" I asked but got no reply. I held up her face, staring at her only for her to start crying.
"Did they touch you? What's wrong?" She couldn't say anything.
I don't know what to do. I thought of a way to stop her from crying. Immediately, I moved closer to her and engulfed her in a warm embrace, patting her gently on her back. She continued crying and I felt pretty bad.
What's bothering her? Her crying turned to hiccups and I couldn't help but chuckle. She looks cute even while crying.
A man with an ice cream truck stood by. While some passerby went to buy some ice cream. I lifted her chin. Care for ice cream? I asked and She nodded
I let out a grin and stood up and went to fetch some ice cream. Coming back with two cones of ice cream. I handed one over to her and watch a glint of happiness appear on her face. She gulped the ice cream and mumbled a "thank you"
I watched her enjoy the ice cream happily. Some part of the ice cream appeared at the corner of her lips. I brought out my handkerchief, leaned closer and wiped the ice cream off her lips. She watched me steadily. I wonder what's going through her mind.
"You seem tough but you are actually soft." I said waiting for her response.
She gasped. "Today wasn't so much of a nice day." Her gaze lowered to the ground
"Trouble at work?" I asked
"Yeah, coupled with the drunk boys from earlier. She turned to me. "what are you even doing around here?
"I live in the neighbouring street, I was actually taking a stroll to know more about my new street and its neighbours." I chuckled
"Ooh!" She gulped the ice cream again.
"Thanks for your help today, Dylan! I owe you one.." she appreciated
"Naaa. You don't, that's what friends should do, right? I asked
"No I insist!" She said with a jutted chin
"Ok I surrender, miss." With my hands on the air. We laughed together, staring at each other closely.
Her teary eyes vanished. I'm happy she's no longer crying. She was engrossed with her icecream and I couldn't help but stare. To avoid being lost in admiration, I stood up abruptly.
"I...I think its late already. Don't you have class tomorrow?" I stammered looking at the skies, avoiding her gaze.
"I do.. I'm tired already." She yawned lightly
"Where do you live?" I asked
"The next street after this one. Technically, we are neighbours." She said and I smiled.
"Care for a company?" She nodded and we walked towards her path. Our hands collided each other while moving. I moved a bit to avoid the hands colliding with each other.
"There's my apartment" she pointed at a window in the huge building infront of us. The lights were on.
"You stay with someone?" I asked
"Yeah! My best friend." A smile curled up to her face at the mention of her best friend
"See you in school tomorrow" I turned to leave when she called.
"Dylan!" I halted and turned toward her
She brought out her phone. "Please, can you insert your number, remember I owe you one. Whenever I'm free, I won't hesitate to put a call across to fulfil my request."
I grinned and inserted my number. She called and my phone rang. I brought it out, saw her number and saved it.
"Ok... I... I will get going. Be careful." She stuttered.
"I will." I waved and left.Download Novelah App
