GWENN POV
“Why are you all doing this to me?” I scream as soon as I entered the camp where my so called warriors erected for themselves. Bodyguards, that’s what they are, they protect me among my friends but the moment when I step into the battle field they withdraw from me.
“My Queen.” Sorens appears next to me. I would have been shocked about this before I left to help my husband but not anymore, not when I am just as fast as him and just as inhuman too, the speed which leave me the moment I also enter the battle field.
“If I was your Queen you will obey my orders to help in the war.” I yelled at them not willing to let the tears pour from my eyes although it was getting hard.
“You know that we cannot.” Sorens replies nervously… he was the most humane among them all, the rest were slowly appearing and looking on with me discussing with their commander with no expression on their face, like they were empty bodies with no souls.
“And why can you not? Tell me what must I do for you to lift your arms and go to war with me?” I roared in anger as I knelt on the floor completely weak and drained of strength.
“You need not do anything except command us.” The voices whispered.
“That is what I have been doing.” I answered confused, this was the exact same thing that Arius told me in his letter.
“You are not ready.” The voice replied and one after the other, the army that had surrounded me bowed before leaving to wherever they were before they heard my scream.
“Sorens, please.” I begged the commander in front of me.
“I cannot. Nobody can help you in this. You have to discover what this is yourself, that is the only way for us to help.” Sorens said before grasping out loud as if he was being choked, when blood dribbled out of his mouth, I realized that there was more here than what meets the eye, they really cannot tell me what to do.
“Is this like another quest I have to go through to prove myself…?” I asked him but he shook his head holding his chest with his face twisted in a grimace.
“I have to leave you, your majesty, please all you have to do is command us.” He said as he disappeared too.
“I have been commanding, you have just refused to obey” I said in a small voice but no answer came my way.
******************************************************
I met Dyane the next day and made Dyane to dye my hair to black just like Gwenn’s hair. “Why are you doing this, my lady?”
“I don’t know. It is what is needed right now.” I replied quietly. Something was not right, the air felt heavy and tasted wrong. Something was going to happen and we would not be able to stop it.
“Any other thing you need my lady” Dyane asked me but I shook my head, I let my intuition take me to the war council drawer that was close to our tent, I told a scroll and a bottle of ink before I kept it in the pile where my possessions were gathered. Possessions I took off certain part of the tent to gather. Not knowing exactly what I was doing.
“Lady Themis. The Warlord require you meeting him with the war council.” Elison voice sounded as I gasp then ran outside.
“Themis what did you do to your hair.” Elison asks as he touch a lock.
“Wanted to change the color, Elison please I beg you…whatever you are planning, don’t do it.” I begged Elison who looks at me strangely, not like I blamed him, I was acting strangely even to myself.
“What are you talking about Themis, I have no idea what you mean.” Elison said as he held my hand while escorting me to the place where they were holding the war council meeting.
“Me too, maybe because I have been feeling odd for a while now.” I replied, rubbing my stomach. Whatever is happening or will happen is not something I look forward to. I followed Elison to where my husband was.
His reaction was the same as Elison when he saw my hair.
“What did you do to your hair?” Orel asked me, unable to tear his eyes away at my new look like he didn’t know if he should be dismayed or admire it, I must have looked so different with it.
“I dyed it, there seem to be no reason why I would allow a target painted on my back when I join the fight if I can change such a simple thing as my hair.” I shrugged as Orel body went tight with tension.
“What do you mean, fight?” Orel asked.
“Surely you don’t think that I will stay in the tent twisting my fingers in worry while you go out there and fight in every battle. No, I am not going to do that.” I snorted at my husband expression which turned more disbelieving the longer I talked.
“You are pregnant.” Orel spluttered.
“And you are injured, yet with our unique circumstances we are still going to fight.” I shrugged as if I didn’t just say anything worth of importance, like I was stating a fact which they were all aware of, like Orel had no choice but to accept my words and leave them be.
“You cannot be serious about this.” Orel repeated but I spared him a look not blinking with my discontenting gaze pinning him in place.
“You will find, husband that I am as serious as a sword through a heart.” I finally replied. “Nothing you say will change my mind and the only way in future that I will remain in the tent when fighting is going on is only if you are right beside me.”
“Themis…” Orel started but Gwenn laid a hand on his arm to draw his attention to me, when Orel looked at her, she shook her head.
“You know as well as I do that Themis will not change her mind.” Gwenn said softly.
“All these would not have happened if only you learned how to control your husband people.” Orel said as he removed Gwenn hand from his arm.
“We are planning an attack on the Erisea, if they are not ready to bring a fight to us since they are all about their sneak attacks and all, we will bring the fight to them and it will be with enough warning that they will know better than to try what they have been trying with us.”
“I would suggest that you don’t do it.” I said with a bite of her lips.
“You feel it would not be a success?” Orel asked me, focusing his attention on me.
“It will be, there will be greater amount of loss on their side more than ours…” I said and when I saw the looks the rest of the commanders were giving me, I remembered that not everybody knows of my unique gift, I quickly added. “I mean according to the plans you have, the fighting will happen within the mountain range right?”
“Yes, the warriors before they are accepted as such are supposed to serve the temple for a year, all of us are used to the mountains and know our way around and through it, that is why we plan to use it.” Orel said realizing that he almost exposed me in front of the council, he sent me an apologetic look.
“Okay… but I cannot help the feeling that something will go wrong.” I grimace as the commanders all laughs at my worry.
“Of course you will feel that way, after all it will be the first battle, and after all it will be the first battle your husband will fight in and from your earlier words, with you by his side I presume.” Olyver added but I shook her head.
“As soon as the Eriseans taunt us again, we will drive them into the mountains then proceed to pluck them off one by one.” Orel said as I shook her head.
“Tomorrow morning then, may the gods be with you.” I said as I left them without any prior sign, I could feel Orel gaze on me as I walked away, he knew that something was going on with me and I had only until the end if the meeting to get my thought in order before he would demand an answer.Download Novelah App
