All of us walk towards the kitchen. We see Mrs. Morgan putting a plate full of sanwiches and macaroons. Leo immediately runs towards her to help her with the glasses of water.
I thought I was the only one who is shy right now. I can see Shanaia smile widely but she is currently holding onto my arm. She's been shaking me whenever Mrs. Morgan laughs.
"I prepared the early snacks for all you and some macaroons." She smiles at us, beautifully. How can a mother like her, age like that? She looks 30! Her pale skin is as beautiful and pretty as her brown hair. Everything about her shines even her personality. But her smile stands out the most for me. Now I know where Leo got his gentle personality.
"I'm so glad to finally meet the three of you!" She looks at Kael, Shai and then me. Such a warm smile. I smile back. Leo decides to introduce everyone to her and every name he mentions, her eyes looks at us one by one. "I'm so glad to see Leo with his friends. You should come here more often!"
Leo calls Darren from upstairs and he also introduced him to Mrs. Morgan. Even if we're shy, we sat down on the chairs as Mrs. Morgan persuades us to do so. As we are eating and talking about some stuff, I can't stop myself to look at Mrs. Morgan. She's just looking at us from the kitchen, smiling. And when she sees me looking back, her eyes turns into a crescent moon because of her smile. It suddenly touched my heart.
"It's as sweet as you," Everyone laughs and Rei cringes after Sid said that to Mrs. Morgan when she asked about the food. I also laugh at it.
"I love the icing!" Shanaia comments.
"I purposely put those to make it more appealing," Mrs. Morgan shows an eye smile.
"The icing on the macaroons makes it cute and pretty at the same time.." Darren also gives a comment. Everyone agrees, nodding their heads.
"But it's still a beautiful macaroon even without the icings. It's more natural, you know." I stop chewing my macaroon when Sid said that while looking at me. He's sitting at the other end of the table and nobody seems to notice what he did. They're all busy talking and eating. Once I furrowed my brows, he looks down while shaking his head, still smiling.
I ignored what happened and talk it off with the others. A few minutes later, we decided to start our study.
"Let's get started there." Leo points at the sliding door at the back. When he opens this, I realize that we're already at the back of their house. An open area with a balcony, seems to be in Japanese style. The others begins to sit on the floor. They place their things on the wide small table. I also do the same after a few seconds.
"Get a break you, two." Rei's brows furrows at Kael and Sid who are giggling. Kael's holding a DSLR camera and he's looking at it. Sid grins when our eyes meet. I tried to smile but I still can't remove the thought of how I'm intimidated I am to him sometimes.
I noticed the everyone suddenly quiet and more behave than usual. They're usually loud and chaotic but now, they are minding their own businessㅡplacing books on the table.
"The meeting is in order." We turn our heads when Kael spoke. I look at Rei infront of me. She has the same look on her face. I didn't think we would have a meeting today. It's obviously about the club.
"Meeting?" Kael nods his head at Darren.
"After this week, the next one will be the week where the School's Festival is going to happen." He starts to talk. We just listen. "Starting tomorrow, it is going to be a start of a hard week. The exams are also coming so we better get things on hand. Since we're just 7, we need to multi-task or have a double duty. It's okay if we don't give all the fliers. The important thing this week is to complete the number of signatures or to have atleast a half one done."
Everybody starts to speak up for their opinions. The movie files are already in Leo's laptop. He's assigned for that. For the signatures, it depends on the day if who handles them. That's the same for the fliers. Since it's a student's hardwork to be done for their clubs, we get to clean the theatre hall and decorate it for our event. Shanaia volunteers to buy the decorations with the foods and drinks. So Kael assigns it to the three of us, girls. We're going to do that after this week, a day before the festival starts.
While everybody is talking about the club and our event, I can't stop thinking of the upcoming exams. I really need to study harder this time. Work harder, too. I'm still afraid that my time of studying will be affected by me getting busy for the next days.
I mentally shake my head. Everybody's in the same case. I can't just blame myself or anyone for getting busy in the club. I can give a time to review. I shouldn't worry about it too much.
Suddenly, a hand is waving infront of my face. I look up to that hand and see Sid. I didn't notice that I was almost zoning out after thinking too much. I just realized that we're all already studying and reading our books.
"You okay?"
I hesitate to talk but responds anyway. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine."
"You sure?" He raises both of his brows.
"Yup! Nothing to worry about. I was just reading."
There was a pause. He looks at my book and then back to meㅡhis dimple showing. Rei looks up to us and I can feel Shanaia on my right, looking, too.
"It doesn't look like it," he says. "Your book is upside down."
After he said that, I immediately look at the book on my hand and I feel my cheeks burning from embarassment. I also heard the others starting to laugh. I guess they already noticed it for a while now. Sid also ended up laughing. They keep on laughing.
"Enough already!" I say but it sounded like I was about to laugh that's why they teased me more. Especially Sid.
"She was like staring at it while flipping the pages," Shanaia laughs more. "I was looking at everyone and thought, 'who's gonna tell her'!"
Kael's laugh was the loudest one, nearly breathless. Rei who I also thought is going to stop them, laughed harder as Shanaia makes it funnier while telling her part when she saw me.
"Whatever." I couldn't hide the smile on my face while shaking my head. Before looking back at the book infront of me, I catch a glimpse of Sid staring at my direction while smiling.
