Chapter 47. Worries
Esmeralda's Point of View
"Oh my goodness! May you repeat your words dear?!" Amabel half friendly and half anxiously inquired to the guy calling on her phone. Since she said dear, perhaps the guy who she is currently talking to is one of the attendants.
Making me subconsciously stand with her as well. It was just a minute ago when we were jovially conversing about she met her husband, Mr. Anselm Klein, when an abrupt phone call suddenly decided to interrupt and make Amabel stand with a sudden alteration of her expression from cheery to astoundingly worried. Because of whatever the guy on the phone reported. I can't hear it since she had no time to press louder on its speaker as the maid, as I repeat, who came running to announce such a call firmly reported it to be very urgent. And so sh-
"Oh Lucretius dear son, why must you? Pray that you won't get hurt nor injured!" Amabel then hopingly exclaimed after she was finished with her call.
This caused my attention utterly. "What happened?" I quizzed as I gently pat her shoulder to persuade her to sit. She might be that healthy but you just don't know what might happen when one is completely nervous and worried. They might get sudden aches or possibly even worse, which is a heart attack.
"Oh sweetheart," she muttered with her ever-teary eyes. She sympathetically smiled at me, as if I am the one with whom she is sympathizing. "Lucretius, Alejandro, and the men were attacked by some armed street robbers. Now they are under tension between protecting their own lives as well as Lucretius' and saving those robbers' lives. But Adriatico, the one who called, it is most likely that they will need to fight."
By the time she is finished talking, she is already breathless, causing me to silently thank myself because I decided to persuade her to at least sit. However, my thoughts were quick to go back to her words.
'They are attacked by some ARMED street robbers? Where on earth are they? I didn't even know they left the house. When did they even leave?'
Exploding with questions in my mind, I let out the first to reach my mouth. "Where are they?"I muttered as I joined her to sit. I didn't even notice I was the one still standing.
Amabel looked at me, " Did I forget to inform you, sweetheart?" She asked to which I was haste to answer with a nod. Seeing my response, she apologetically sighed. " I apologize for that sweetheart, currently, they are still on the road near our beloved father's abandoned estate. His name is Percival. They went there to find some documents but I am already regretting giving my permission for them to go upon hearing such a dangerous encounter." She then looked back at me because she darted her eyes away when she was explaining. "Although Lucretius is with his bodyguards, I can't help but worry because Adriatico said he insisted on staying rather than finding another route to escape."
I furrowed my eyebrows. Already being able to imagine how much of a burden he is. "But does he know how to...." I ceased for a moment to find the right words. "you know, fight?" I ended up saying as I am eager to know whether he can or cannot help with their situation. Because if no-
Amabel suddenly half smirked which stop me from further wondering from my thoughts. "Sweetheart, let me have the honor to tell you." She boasted as she sat erectly while putting down her phone. An action that utterly pleased me because it seems she is straying away from her anxiousness. "He was ten, it was before he lost her mother, when he was first given a gun, by my husband. I recalled it was called a pistol. Then when I glared at my husband for giving him such a thing that I thought he wouldn't be able to handle, I was merely taken aback as he held the gun as if he already knew how it is used and at the blink of my eyes, the vase, which I remembered to be at fifteen meters away from us, explode loudly while my husband claps proudly. This made me instantly gaze down to my little Lucretius which caused my jaw to fall as I took in the sight of him imperiously pointing at the broken vase." Saying this, she heaved an extremely long sigh. As if she once bore all the problems of the world. "So you see, he is an adept and natural-as my husband calls him, shooter. Therefore, I have high hopes that he will be able to fight those robbers, together with his protectors."
With her half-boasting and half-admiring story, I was left with a mixed impression. Although he had a background of genius lineage, I didn't expect him to be almost natural in everything. And to be able to shoot perfectly at such a young age, I was astounded, but knowing him, he wouldn't even give a bit of care because he doesn't think of himself as someone who has his own life to fulfill but rather something who must save his mother..... And nothing else.
"Kept you thinking about him isn't it?" Amabel suddenly jeered upon sensing my deep thoughts.
I was about to respond when an elderly man came running towards us, Mr. Anselm I suppose, since he has these old features yet still looks attractive, rather than dismaying, which is exactly similar to Amabel.
Arriving, he was about to speak but instantly ceased when he finally noticed me.
"This is Miss Esmeralda Myint, sweetheart. Beautiful isn't she?" Amabel acquainted her husband with a gentle gesture toward me. "And sweetheart Esmeralda, this is my beloved husband, Anselm. Handsome as well isn't he?"
Me and Mr. Anselm both broke into a faint laugh at her amusing introduction.
"Nice to meet you beautiful Esmeralda, I've heard a lot of admiring aspects about you." Mr. Anselm praised as he stretch his hand for an offer of a handshake.
To which I immediately responded with a friendly smile and handshake. "Likewise sir."
Then his attention was returned back to his wife. "Did you hear about Lucretius, my dear?" He asked half concerned and half relaxed. It's as if he knew Lucretius will certainly defeat their attackers and is merely worried about his wife being too anxious.
'Awe, such a perfect definition of husband and wife.'
" Yes sweetheart," Amabel uttered with a melancholic nod. " I know of his good skills but I just hope those robbers don't have such skills that match nor surpass his. Is there any news yet?"
A lopsided smile broke out of Mr. Anselm. " I am glad you have finally chosen to imagine on the positive side, my dear. I'm assuming Miss Esmeralda is one of the reasons? "
I frantically shook my head at his assumption. Meanwhile, he merely smiled as I saw Amabel nod to him in response.
"Well, I should instruct Lucretius to stay a little longer after my beloved wife's birthday for us to be more acquainted. You do really have a positive atmosphere within you beautiful lady. It is best if you share those with my lonely nephew and wife. What do you think Miss Esmeralda?" Mr. Anselm was now seated beside his wife sweetly, after expressing his plan.
Usually, I would immediately decline such a request but since I will have, presumably, nothing to do when we get back to Lucretius' grand mansion, my brain thought that it would be better to accept. "If tha-"
"Lady Amabel, master Anselm and Miss Esmeralda, master Lucretius have arrived!" Came a sudden interjection of an attendant.
Which was prompt to assemble us to a quick rising and then running towards the entrance door.Download Novelah App
