Episode 29
Obed's eyes gleamed with ambition. "I envision a marketplace that will rival the one in the Golden Kingdom, a hub of commerce that will attract traders from far and wide. This will be a beacon of prosperity, a symbol of our kingdom's strength and resilience."
The elders nodded in agreement, their faces alight with hope. They sensed a new energy in their leader, a determination to build a better future for their people.
It seems Obed is God sent to them, because this is exactly the type of ruler they had been praying for. Obed was not just a king, he was a visionary, a leader who understood the true meaning of power.
"But before we delve into the specifics of my plans," Obed continued, his voice taking on a more serious tone, "I have a question. A question that has been weighing on my mind since my arrival."
The elders leaned forward, their attention captivated.
"When I came here with my friends for purpose of war against your king then, I didn't see any of you around your king"
"And you all claim to be the elders of this Kingdom before but I didn't see any of you in this hall I didn't even notice any of your faces inside this Castle when we came, I thought elders means you are supposed to be by his side always, counselling him on what to do" Obed said and his statement sent everyone of the elders looking at each other it was more like they were sending message through their eyes.
But although, they were not totally trying to lie or pretend about it because, Obed was totally right.
"I and my friends didn't just came and left immediately, we spent some more times, we walked around the palace as well and I didn't notice any of your faces that is here now!" Obed said taking in a deep breath.
"So, I am going to ask, because I am suspecting one thing, I mean two things.... it is either that you are all lying! you are never an Elder of this Kingdom or it will be that you are all that type of elders that always desert the King when he in needs of your help! so which of the two that I mention is the right statement to use for men like you?" Obed asked. And at this moment his face is not looking good because if the elders can't deny what he say then he can't do with them, he can't work with people that have no honor.
"My King," a voice boomed, cutting through the tension. Elder Bishop Anderson, his face etched with a mixture of wisdom and regret, rose from his seat. "You have shown great courage in asking this question. It is a question that deserves an honest answer."
He paused, allowing his words to resonate, then continued, "It is true that we were not present during your attack on the King. We did not stand beside him in his hour of need. But we did not abandon him out of fear or cowardice. We abandoned him because he refused to listen to our counsel."
The elders, their faces now a mix of determination and sorrow, nodded in agreement. They had been loyal advisors, dedicated to the well-being of their kingdom. But they had also been frustrated by the King's stubbornness, his refusal to heed their warnings.
"What counsel did you offer?" Obed pressed, his voice laced with a hint of suspicion. "What advice did he reject that led to his downfall?"
The elders exchanged glances, their expressions revealing a shared burden of responsibility. They knew that the truth, once revealed, would cast a shadow over their past, a reminder of their failed attempt to guide their King towards a better path. But they also knew that honesty was the only way to earn Obed's trust, to prove that they were worthy of his leadership.
"We warned him," Elder Anderson began, his voice heavy with regret, "We warned him against the path he had chosen, against the alliances he had forged. We saw the dangers ahead, the consequences of his actions. But he refused to listen. He was blinded by his ambition, his thirst for power."
"We warned him sternly, against Myth!" Anderson added.
Obed's voice echoed through the hall, his eyes narrowed in understanding. "You advised the King to align with Dara instead?"
Elder Bishop Anderson nodded, his expression solemn. "Yes, my King. We saw the danger in Myth's ambition, his hunger for power. We knew that his influence would lead the King down a path of destruction. Dara, on the other hand, was a beacon of hope, a symbol of peace and unity. We believed that an alliance with Dara would have brought prosperity and stability to our kingdom."
Obed's gaze swept over the assembled elders, their faces etched with the weight of their past choices. He saw the regret in their eyes, the burden of their failed counsel. He understood their motives, their desire to guide their King towards a better path. But he also saw the strength in their convictions, their unwavering commitment to their principles.
"So, you abandoned the King because he chose the wrong path?" Obed asked, his voice tinged with a hint of empathy.
"We did not abandon him, my King," Bishop Anderson corrected, his voice firm. "We left because he refused to listen to our counsel. We believed that he needed to see the consequences of his actions, to learn from his mistakes. We hoped that, if he is to come back to life again he would be giving a listening ear to advices."
Obed nodded slowly, his mind racing. He understood the elders' perspective, their belief that they had acted in the best interests of their kingdom.
"Well, that doesn't mean you didn't abandon him, bit that's by the side now, he, believe that we can achieve great things together, my elders. I believe that we can create a kingdom where prosperity and peace prevail"
The elders, their faces alight with a renewed hope, nodded in agreement. They sensed a new energy in their leader, a determination to build a better future for their people.
With Obed, the kingdom will strive forward and prosperous as well, it's a good thing.
