Chapter 25

As far as he could tell, Molly didn’t appear to particularly like anyone. It was quite possible that she only had feelings for him. He hoped that it was true. At least that way, he could help her. If she didn’t return his feelings, at least there would still be someone that she could love.
After sitting in the living room for a couple of hours, he heard the doorbell ringing. Molly went to answer it, and as soon as she opened the door, he recognized her face. Molly opened the door wider for Beavis to walk inside. Caleb followed closely behind, closing the door behind him.
"Hey, Beau!" greeted Caleb.
"Hey, Caleb. Hi, Molly" greeted Beau politely
.
"Hey Beavis, what brings you here today?" Caleb inquired.
"Just checking up on ya and seein' how things are goin'," replied Beavis casually. He then turned his attention to Molly, "hey Molly…"
“Hello…um…you wanted to see me Beauregard?” she asked awkwardly.
“Sure do. Wanna grab a bite with us?” asked Beavis.
“Um…sure” answered Molly.
“Great. Come on then, let’s go” he said gesturing for Molly to follow him.
As soon as Molly stepped outside, he closed the door behind her. "What exactly does your plan consist of?" he demanded.
"I already told you, there's nothing to worry about. I'm just gonna get a little more information from her"
"And what kind of information could you possibly obtain from a woman you barely know?"
"I know what you did to her " he stated simply. He sighed, "Why did you raise your hand on Molly?”
Caleb stared in shock at Beau. He never expected her to confront him about it.
"What do you mean?" he asked slowly.
Beau glared at him, "I know that you hit her.“
"Excuse me?"
"I saw you, Caleb"
“Okay, well, obviously I didn’t intend to hurt her. I intended to help her" admitted Caleb quietly.
"And what exactly did you intend to help her with?" asked Beau harshly.
"With my powers? Nothing, just…fixing things" he explained. "I meant no harm."
"So, you just happened to show up at her doorstep one day and offer to fix her broken heart?"
"Yes, I suppose so"
"And you expect me to believe that?"
"Believe what you want, Beau. But I assure you, I did not intend to hurt her. I just wanted to help her"
"I guess you didn't think that your words would affect her in any way though. Did you?" questioned Beau.
"Well, it seems like she doesn't trust me anymore..."
"I wouldn't say she trusts you. It looks like she's afraid of you. You scared her"
Caleb thought about what Beau said. He hadn't thought of it that way before. He wasn't used to people being afraid of him.
Most people he knew loved him.
Even Molly. But not Molly. He didn't understand why. Molly was different, but still…
“Caleb?” Molly joined their conversation. “Is everything alright?”.

“Yeah,” said Caleb quickly, “everything’s fine.”
Caleb looked down at the ground, trying to hide his tears. He could feel Molly standing beside him, holding onto his arm.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked again, concern laced into her voice.
“Yeah, sorry. Just some stuff on my mind,” he lied, not wanting to admit what was on his mind.
He looked at Molly who still had her hand on his forearm. She smiled softly at him, and he could feel his cheeks begin to heat up. Molly pulled her hand away and grabbed his arm instead, leading them back inside.
When they arrived inside, Beauregard grabbed some food out of the fridge and set it on the dining table. Caleb watched Molly sit next to Beavis who also took his spot next to Molly. The three of them ate dinner in silence, “Molly?” Beavis spoke.“I never got tell you, Molly? I fell Inlove with you the moment I sighted you, but the truth is I can't be with you. you deserve a brother, not a partner...I think you and Caleb should be together”
“Are you okay?”
“I know exactly what am saying, a person like me can't be with someone, besides having been lonely most of my life” Beavis paused, contemplating, “but Caleb, I do think you two should be together. You need somebody who will support you through the good and bad times. Someone who will hold your hand, protect you, kiss you…and you need somebody to share all of your stories.
Someone who loves you enough to spend thee rest of their life with you. Don't you agree Caleb?”
Caleb nodded silently, unsure what to say. What Beavis had said resonated deep within him. Yes, he needed someone who would support him. Someone who loved him enough to spend the rest of his life with him.
That somebody would have to be Molly. And Caleb knew that she would do anything for him, and more importantly for him. And he felt the same way toward her.
“Caleb?” Molly whispered.
He turned his gaze to meet hers. “I’m with you, Molly” he declared boldly.
Beau and Caleb smiled and chuckled at each other. “So,” Beau started, turning towards Molly. “Do you want to play some board games? Or maybe you wanna watch tv?”
Molly shrugged her shoulders. “Whatever you guys wanna do. I guess I could use a break” she said smiling at Beau.
“Alright then, what do you want to do?” asked Beau curiously.
“Uh…we could play monopoly?” suggested Molly.
“Sounds good to me!” answered Beauregard. She took a glance over to Caleb, asking for permission. Caleb gave his approval and Beau reached into the cabinet underneath the television to grab her monopoly box.
They placed their items on the coffee table and set up the game.
Beau placed a few coins on the table before placing a piece in the center of the square. “All right. Who goes first?” she asked.
“Me, of course” responded Molly confidently.
Beau chuckled to herself, “of course you do” she mumbled under her breath. She picked up the first piece and pushed it forward until it touched the edge of the table. “Three quarters, huh? Looks easy enough.”
Molly picked up her piece and placed it in the middle of the table. Beau took her first piece off the board, moving it across the board as she waited for Molly to start the game. Molly moved her third piece forward and placed it in front of Beau.
She moved her fifth piece forward and placed it in front of Molly.
They continued this exchange several more times, each time getting a little closer to finishing the game. Molly had gotten a bit frustrated and decided to call a halt to the game after a while.
“Oh come on! We’ve barely even started” argued Beau.
“I know, but you’ve only gotten about four quarters out of this game, so we don’t have anything left” pointed out Molly.
“Okay…well how about I go ahead and finish it? You can join in afterward if you want,” offered Beau.
“No. You’ll only win anyway since we both want to finish this game. You don’t have to go all out just because of me, Beau” answered Molly.
“But I want to. Besides, I already won five quarters out of this game. I can always keep going,” argued Beau stubbornly.
“You’re just being stubborn now because you're losing, Beau” pointed out Caleb.
“Am not!” insisted Beau.
“Am too”
“Am not”
“Am too”
“Am not”
“Am too”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Will you two stop arguing?!” yelled Molly angrily.
The others fell silent, looking at Molly in surprise. Beau and Caleb stopped arguing almost immediately, and Molly took a deep breath to calm herself down. She tried to smile reassuringly at everyone, but they could see the frustration growing behind her eyes.
“Can we please finish our game?” asked Molly calmly.
Beau sighed, “Yeah, whatever you say. If you insist…”
“I insist” replied Molly firmly. She lifted the first piece of her second round of monopoly, placed it on the top of the pile, and put it face down on top of her third and fourth pieces.
“That’s it, you’ve lost,” remarked Beauregard smugly.
“Not yet. I think there’s still a chance of winning” countered Molly.
“Oh yeah? Well, what do you propose we do? Let’s play a different strategy,” Beau suggested.
“How about we let me do something first, then you can continue talking about strategies?” suggested Molly.
Beau nodded her head, “okay. You’re the boss” she stated.
“Thank you, Beauregard. Now, where were we? Oh yeah,” Molly began to pick up her pieces, putting them in front of her. “Let’s try something different this time. How about we just do what we did last time? Instead of taking turns to pick a piece, why don’t I take a turn choosing one out of the stack?”
“I think that’s a great idea” agreed Beau.
“Then you take a turn” Molly instructed.
After a few moments of silence, Beau finally selected a piece and placed it into the pile.
She watched as Beau chose another piece from the pile, placing it in front of her. A few moments went by without either Beau or Molly speaking again.
“How about you, Caleb? What are you going to do this time?” asked Molly?
Caleb cleared his throat, “I’m just going to move my pieces slowly” he told Molly.
Immediately a knock was heard from the door, Beavis goes towards the door and then opened it to see Buggy standing in there with tears in his eyes.
“Buggy...what happened?”
“It...your mom, she's currently at the hospital,” he said.
