Chapter 95

Three years later, I was done with my studies in the high school. Donald had introduced me to them as his new sister about three years ago and I struggled with not letting the vampire in me take over me whenever the children made me angry. They bullied me during my first year there and it was only Dera who was in her a class above mine that helped me. She taught me how to fight with them but I had no interest as I knew what I could do to them.
"Thanks for the advice, Dera; I will try to implement it." I will always say to her but I never implemented it.
She always stood by me on every side, and I was so happy. Donald became a brother to us and never let out teaching us the right manners to exhibit.
"You should try to avoid them whenever you feel that they want to pull a stunt or hurt you if you can't argue or fight back," Donald would always say to me whenever Dera reported the case of my continuous bullying to him.
Anytime I felt like growling in the school because I was angry, I would always run to the bush side, use my hand to cover my mouth, and then growl. Donald also taught me other tactics for fighting but I didn't implement them but I did according to his first advice and avoided them all.
"She is afraid of us." They would all say anytime I ran away from them or avoided them.
Nothing about this was dealt with in the school as the head of the bully was the heir of the old man who owned the school. I guess the man held the boy in high esteem because he was his first son and he had him in his old age.
During my second year in the school, the bully stopped as they noticed that I was really avoiding them although they were my mates. Dera was happy with the development as she was worried about how I was going to take care of myself when she left the school. I was in the art class while Dera was in the science class. Dera continued her work as a maid on weekends in Donald's house. He took us on a trip during each holiday making us happy. I finished my high school education in the school, and Donald was proud of my academic achievements, and he promised to surprise me, making me love him more.
"I am going to surprise you soon." He said to me on a day when Dera was home from college and I smiled.
"I can feel that I am in love with him but why would I love him?" I asked myself.
"He is human while I am a vampire but I am in love with him." I looked at Dera and wanted to let her know that I was a vampire, but I decided to ask her a question first before knowing if I should let her know or not.
 "Dera!" I called that day.
"Yes, Sophia." She answered smiling.
"I would like to ask you a question," I said.
"Go on." She said. Donald walked out of his bedroom and we both greeted him.
He works from home, and due to that, we see him every day. I stared at him for a while and stopped when Dera spoke up.
"What do you want to ask?" She asked making me look at her.
"Hold on," I said and moved backward. I shook my head as I pondered on the reason I stared so long at Donald. Donald held his sit on his usual couch and looked at me.
"Go on with your question." He said making me contemplate on asking them or not.
After much contemplation, I decided to ask them in a way that wouldn't look like I was talking about myself.
"According to a book I was reading," I said looking at them.
"I read that a normal being lived with a vampire and fell in love with her, and afterward, they married," I said looking at them both. When I saw the confused look on Dera's face, I let out a laugh.
"Now my question is, would you do such if you lived with her?" I asked and Donald cleared his throat.
"If I heard you well, you said he or she lived with a vampire and fell in love, then married it," Donald said and I nodded my head.
"Yes, that's it," I said. "Did he know that that was a vampire?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yes, he knew before marrying her," I said and he bursted out laughing.
"Now to answer your question." He said after calming himself.
"Even if I fall in love with her, I won't marry her but burn her." I opened my mouth looking at him.
"If I may ask why would you do that?" I asked and he laughed.
"I would do that because she is not a being but a demon." He said and I slightly nodded.
"Over to you, Dera," I said turning to Dera as I still maintained my posture.
Dera smiled, looking at me, then cleared her throat.
"I am going to burn him just as Donald said, but mine would be when he is asleep, as vampires do sleep during the day and sometimes at night." She said and paused.
"Even if it is a friend who lives with me." She finally said.
Her final words struck my heart, and I was sad but had to hide the sadness in my face.
"Alright, thanks for your contributions," I said and immediately went to my room.
Getting into the room, I knelt down after shutting the door and placed my mouth on the bed then I growled.
"Why can't they accept us for who we are? We are beings, not demons," I said after growling as I thought of how Chloe was killed years back.
