The atmosphere in the hotel was a mix of relief and tension as players processed their experiences from the second trial. Seyun and his friends gathered in their usual meeting spot, a large common room adorned with plush furniture and flickering lights, the remnants of the race still fresh in their minds. “Can you believe we actually made it?” Aiden exclaimed, flopping down onto a couch, a broad grin plastered across his face. “I thought we were done for back there!” Mina let out a nervous laugh, sitting next to him. “I thought the statue was going to crush us! But we worked together. That’s what matters.” “Exactly,” Lila agreed, leaning back in her chair. “We can’t underestimate our teamwork. It saved us in the maze.” Seyun nodded, his expression serious. “But we need to prepare for the next trial. There’s no telling what it will be, and I have a feeling it’ll be even tougher than the last.” Just then, the Guardian materialized in the room, his presence commanding instant attention. “Players, gather around!” he called, his voice echoing ominously. Seyun exchanged glances with his friends, and they quickly stood, moving toward the center of the room where other players were congregating. The Guardian’s eyes glowed, scanning the crowd with an intensity that made Seyun’s stomach twist. “Congratulations on clearing the second trial,” the Guardian began, his tone neutral. “However, this is just the beginning. The next trial will test not only your physical abilities but also your mental and emotional strength.” “What do you mean?” Theo asked, a furrow forming between his brows. “What kind of trial is it?” “The trial is called ‘The Test of Bonds,’” the Guardian replied. “You will be paired with another player, and you will face challenges that will force you to make difficult choices. Betrayal, trust, and sacrifice will be at the forefront. Only those who can maintain their bonds will succeed.” Murmurs swept through the crowd. Seyun felt a knot form in his stomach. “Bonds? What kind of choices?” “The specifics will be revealed when the trial begins,” the Guardian said. “But be warned: the choices you make will affect not only your fate but the fate of your partner as well.” “Great, just what we need,” Aiden muttered, crossing his arms. “More pressure.” Mina sighed, her shoulders slumping. “I hate the idea of having to betray someone. What if it’s someone we trust?” “You have no choice in who your partner will be,” the Guardian continued. “When the trial begins, you will be randomly assigned a partner from this group. It could be anyone.” “Anyone?” Lila echoed, her eyes widening. “That’s terrifying!” The Guardian’s expression remained unchanged. “Prepare yourselves. The trial will commence soon. You will receive a notification when it’s time to enter.” As he vanished from view, the players exchanged anxious glances. Seyun felt the weight of uncertainty settling in. “Okay, we need to strategize,” Seyun said, trying to keep the mood from spiraling. “We can’t let fear cloud our judgment. Let’s think about how we can maintain our trust no matter what happens.” “I agree,” Theo said, nodding firmly. “We’ve come this far together. We can’t let this trial tear us apart.” “But what if one of us gets paired with someone we don’t trust?” Aiden asked, worry etched on his face. “How do we know they won’t betray us?” “Trust your instincts,” Seyun replied. “And communicate openly. If something doesn’t feel right, we need to voice it. We’ve built a bond that’s strong, and we need to hold onto that.” Mina looked around at the group, determination shining in her eyes. “We can do this. Whatever challenges come our way, we’ll face them together.” The others nodded in agreement, a sense of unity washing over them. Seyun felt a flicker of hope. If they could navigate the next trial together, perhaps they could emerge stronger on the other side. “Let’s make a pact,” Lila suggested, her voice steady. “No matter what happens, we promise to communicate and support each other. No secrets, no hiding.” “Deal,” Aiden said, extending his hand. “Together, we’re unstoppable.” They all placed their hands on top of Aiden’s, a silent promise binding them. Seyun’s heart swelled with pride for his friends. He believed they could overcome any obstacle if they stood united. Hours passed as the group prepared for the impending trial, discussing strategies and potential scenarios. Seyun felt a mix of excitement and dread as the time drew closer. Suddenly, a bright flash illuminated the room, and a notification echoed in their minds. **“Attention! The Test of Bonds will commence now. Please pair up with your assigned partners!”** “Here we go,” Seyun muttered, his heart racing. “Who do you think we’ll get paired with?” Aiden asked, glancing nervously at the others. “Only one way to find out,” Seyun replied, trying to keep his tone light. The bright light enveloped the room, and when it faded, Seyun found himself standing in a dimly lit chamber. He quickly glanced around to find his friends, but they were separated, each standing with a different player. “Hey!” Seyun called out, trying to catch a glimpse of the others. “Where is everyone?” He turned to see a figure approaching him, a tall boy with shaggy hair and a determined expression. Seyun’s heart sank as he recognized him. “Looks like we’re partners,” the boy said, a hint of a smirk on his lips. “I’m Kaito.” Seyun forced a smile, hiding his apprehension. Kaito was known for his cunning, often viewed with suspicion by the other players. “Right. Let’s do our best.” “Don’t worry,” Kaito said, crossing his arms. “I’m all about winning. Just follow my lead, and we’ll be fine.” Seyun felt a flicker of doubt, but he pushed it aside. “Let’s just focus on the trial.” As they stood there, the chamber began to shift, walls rearranging to form a new landscape. Seyun’s breath quickened as they were transported into a vast, dark forest, the air thick with tension. “Welcome to the Test of Bonds!” a voice boomed, echoing through the trees. “You must navigate through this forest and reach the center. Along the way, you will face challenges that will test your partnership. Make your choices wisely!” Seyun felt Kaito’s gaze on him, a mix of curiosity and calculation. “So, what’s the plan?” Seyun took a deep breath, trying to center himself. “We need to stay together and trust each other. Let’s move forward and see what challenges we face.” “Sure, but if you see an opportunity to get ahead, don’t hesitate,” Kaito said, his tone teasing yet serious. “Right,” Seyun replied, feeling unease settle in his stomach. He would have to keep a close watch on Kaito, but for now, they needed to focus on the trial. As they made their way deeper into the forest, eerie sounds echoed around them—rustling leaves, distant growls, and the ever-present feeling of being watched. “Stay alert,” Seyun whispered, scanning their surroundings. “I have a bad feeling about this place.” Suddenly, the ground shook, and a monstrous creature emerged from the shadows—a hulking beast with sharp claws and glowing eyes. It let out a terrifying roar, causing Seyun’s heart to race. “Run!” Kaito shouted, sprinting away from the beast. Seyun followed closely, adrenaline pumping through his veins. “Where do we go?” he yelled, dodging branches as they raced through the underbrush. “Just keep running!” Kaito replied, glancing back at the creature gaining on them. “We need to find somewhere to hide!” They spotted a large tree with a hollow trunk ahead. “There!” Seyun shouted, pointing. “We can hide inside!” They rushed toward the tree, diving into the hollow just as the beast lunged, its claws scraping against the bark. Seyun held his breath, adrenaline surging as they waited in silence, the darkness enveloping them. “We can’t stay here forever,” Kaito whispered, his voice tense. “What’s the plan?” “Let it pass first,” Seyun replied, trying to steady his racing heart. “Then we find a way to move forward.” They could hear the creature sniffing the air, its breath hot against the hollow. Seyun’s mind raced with possibilities. “We can distract it if we have something to throw,” he murmured, scanning the ground for anything useful. “Like what?” Kaito asked, his voice barely above a whisper. “Anything—a rock, a branch, something!” Seyun urged. “We need to draw its attention away from us.” As the creature prowled outside, Seyun spotted a small rock near the entrance. He carefully picked it up, nodding to Kaito. “On the count of three, we throw it in the opposite direction.” “Okay,” Kaito whispered, his eyes locked on the entrance. “One… two… three!” They hurled the rock out of the hollow, and it clattered against the forest floor, drawing the creature’s attention. It turned sharply, letting out an angry growl as it chased after the sound. “Now!” Seyun shouted, and they slipped out of the hollow, sprinting in the opposite direction. They raced through the forest , their hearts pounding. “That was close,” Kaito panted, glancing back to ensure the beast wasn’t following. “Too close,” Seyun replied, feeling a mix of relief and lingering fear. As they slowed to catch their breath, Seyun turned to Kaito. “We make a good team, even if we don’t fully trust each other.” Kaito smirked, wiping sweat from his brow. “Just wait until we win. Then you’ll have to trust me.” “Let’s just focus on surviving first,” Seyun replied, shaking his head with a small smile. “We’ll figure out the rest later.” Together, they pressed deeper into the forest, ready to face whatever lay ahead, their bond being tested with every challenge they encountered.
