That night, Zoe couldn't sleep. He stood by Finn's bed, wanting to wake him up to ask about the letter and the person who had been sending gifts to him. But he remained there in the dim light of the night lamp fixed to the ceiling, meant for those who might need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Jill appeared beside Zoe, whispering gentle words as if to stir Zoe's curiosity. "It's such a pity. I also really want to know who sent you those gifts. That person must be a good one and might have some connection with your parents and you. The letter probably explained everything, but that damned Finn…" Zoe didn't respond and turned back to his own bed, but Jill continued to nag in his ear, deliberately making Zoe think about the letter and the mysterious sender. Eventually, Zoe couldn’t endure the curiosity and restlessness in his heart. He desperately wanted to know who that person was and why they cared about him without ever visiting the reformatory. "Stop talking. I can’t drag Finn out of bed to ask him about the letter. He’ll have his thugs beat me to death. Forget it." Jill floated around Zoe, "What if I had a way to help you? Would you follow it?" Zoe's eyes widened in anticipation as he looked at the translucent spirit before him, "What way?" "You use your power to draw my soul into your body. Then I’ll place my hand on Finn's forehead, and my soul will enter his memories. At that point, even the smallest secret Finn wants to hide will be visible to me. And of course, you’ll see everything Finn saw in the letter." Zoe hesitated, but the name "Neil" on the remaining scrap of paper made him anxious to know the full content of the letter and who Neil was. Zoe reluctantly nodded in agreement to Jill. Jill smiled a barely noticeable smile. Zoe closed his eyes and clenched his fists, focusing as if he were a magnet pulling Jill’s soul towards him. When Zoe pulled his head down and then looked up, his eyes were glowing red and his mouth was twisted into a mischievous grin, resembling Jill. Jill approached Finn’s bed, where Finn was sleeping soundly, and placed his hand on Finn's forehead. Instead of accessing Finn's memories, Jill tried to use Zoe's power to pull Finn's soul out of his body, essentially attempting to kill him. Jill deceived Zoe, and now he was being controlled by a malevolent spirit with the intent to murder. Zoe’s hands slowly gathered the last vestiges of life escaping Finn’s body. When it was over, Jill smirked with satisfaction, savoring the taste of this "victim." The soul was drawn out directly, allowing Jill to fully enjoy the warm breath and vital energy of the victim. Jill covered Finn’s lifeless body with a blanket, carefully adjusting the edges as if to ensure Finn wouldn’t kick it off in his sleep. After finishing, Jill moved to Zoe’s usual bed and lay down. Jill then left Zoe’s body and disappeared into the air, leaving Zoe in a dazed state, exhausted as if drained by some external force. He fell into a deep sleep until the following morning. The result was that Zoe’s special ability was once again used, but the user was Jill, not Zoe. He was clearly manipulated, yet he remained unaware. When Zoe woke up to murmurs around him, it felt like waking from a nightmare without remembering the dream. He opened his eyes to see many people gathered around, including the guards and medical staff. Zoe sat up, confused as to why the medical staff were there. Had someone been beaten during the night without his knowledge? The group was gathered around Finn's bed, and Zoe’s heart raced. What had he and Jill done to Finn last night? Zoe slowly got out of bed and walked over to see what was happening. He stood behind a group of kids and peeked at the medical staff examining and cleaning up around the bed. The body under the white sheet was covered head-to-toe, but Zoe knew who it was. He couldn’t bear to look any longer and turned to the bathroom. Once he confirmed that no one was inside, he called out softly, “Jill… Jill, are you here? Jill… Jill, I need to talk to you.” “Hi Zoe, good morning. What’s up?” Jill’s head popped out from the mirror and waved at Zoe before disappearing again, as if it were a reflection. Zoe stood before Jill, looking at his reflection in the mirror, which seemed bleak and vague. However, Jill in the mirror appeared innocent and cheerful, as if just waking up, and smiled at him. Zoe looked down, dejected, and said softly, “Finn is dead.” “Finn? Really?” Jill replied with a mix of surprise and confusion, then materialized in front of Zoe. “When did he die? Why?” “I don’t know. When I woke up this morning, everyone was gathered around his bed. Even the medical staff and guards were there. Although the body was covered with a white sheet, I was certain it was Finn.” Zoe looked at Jill with suspicion, “Didn’t you know anything? You always know everything that happens in this reformatory.” “I don’t know everything.” Jill floated around in front of Zoe, trying to avoid his gaze, then shrugged. “Last night, my soul was weakened, so after I left your body, I went to hide in the mirror… to rest.” “Did you see anything in Finn’s memories?” Zoe asked urgently, since he hadn’t seen anything and didn’t know the contents of the letter, unlike what Jill had promised. Jill hesitated, then looked downcast, “Sorry, Zoe. I thought I would be able to access Finn’s memories, but I couldn’t. My soul’s power was too weak to see anything. If I had seen anything, you would have seen it too. That’s why my soul was so weakened after it left.” Jill’s pale face appeared before Zoe and then quickly turned away, showing no signs of weakness, but if it was deliberately hiding the truth, there was nothing Zoe could do. He was disappointed and went to wash his face to clear his mind. When he returned to the dorm, everyone had already left, and Finn’s personal belongings were gone as well. The breakfast bell rang, signaling the time for the meal. Zoe was not in the mood to eat, but he still went to the cafeteria because he suspected Jill was lying and wanted to ask the kids who had discovered the body first. As soon as Zoe sat down with his food tray, he overheard a conversation at the nearby table, clearly about Finn’s death. “It’s really strange. Why did he die so inexplicably?” One kid sighed, “Maybe he was bullied by someone who took advantage of him while he was asleep and suffocated him with a pillow.” “The medical staff said there were no signs of external force causing death. Finn often buried his face in his pillow when he slept. If someone had pressed his head down, wouldn’t he have struggled and made a noise? Finn was very strong; who could do that to him?” “Then it must be a ghost.” “Don’t talk nonsense; you’re scaring us.” Zoe couldn’t help but lean over and quietly ask, “Who discovered Finn’s death in the dorm?” “Who would dare to wake him up? He might beat them up.” One kid said, “In the morning, the guards came to check. When they reached Finn’s bed, they found something was wrong because his face was pale and his eyes were wide open. The guard went closer to check and found out he was dead. Then he called the medical staff.” Normally, only someone with serious heart or lung issues would risk sudden death in their sleep, but Finn was very healthy and shouldn’t have died from suffocation while sleeping. His eyes were open, yet that’s what had happened. Such an event in a place like a reformatory made the kids in the dorm feel a chill for days. Many were scared and couldn’t sleep at night, as Finn’s death was truly mysterious. But for Zoe, he was certain about who killed Finn. Although he didn’t know Jill’s motive for the murder, he vowed never to be deceived by it again.
