Chapter 24 Jill Encounters the Ones Who Killed Her

The peak of the noise and excitement was around ten o'clock, with the bar packed to capacity. In reality, the bar thrived thanks to its loyal regulars. However, tonight, there were quite a few new faces that Zoe had never seen before. It was nearly midnight, and the crowd had thinned out considerably. The door of the bar kept opening and closing, and reflexively, Zoe would turn to see how many more patrons were leaving or entering.
By around one o'clock, there was no one left, and everyone was removing their aprons and preparing to close up. At that moment, the door opened again, and three middle-aged men walked in. They were dressed in luxurious suits, their hair neatly styled with gel, and their polished leather shoes made it clear they were successful businessmen. Without bothering to look around, the three men went straight to the seats by the bar and sat down.
Zoe quickly wiped down the bar once more and turned to call May, who was sitting in a corner, texting on her phone. Hearing Zoe's call, May hurried over to the three new guests to ask what they needed. One of the men, with a sharply chiseled face, rudely reached around and grabbed the waitress’s backside. Startled, May stepped back, and all three men burst into laughter, teasing her.
“Just a joke, no need to get all worked up, darling,” the man who had been rude said with a smirk.
One of the men next to him laughed and patted him on the back. “If you’re going to grab her, you should at least tip her.”
“Sure, sure, I’ll tip her,” the man said, pulling out a hundred-dollar bill and attempting to stuff it into May’s chest as she was bent over. Reflexively, she quickly sidestepped and took the money from him.
“Thank you, sir. Your drinks will be served shortly.”
May turned and walked briskly to the bar, handing Zoe a note written on paper, her face flushed with anger.
“Perverted old man.”
Zoe had witnessed the man’s rude behavior at the bar, and he felt indignant for May. “Do you need me to call Bie to talk to him? He should apologize.”
May shook her head. “No, it’s not necessary. It would only make things more troublesome. Besides, I’ve already taken his tip, so that should be apology enough.”
May flicked the money in her hand before stuffing it into her pocket and casting a disdainful glance at the three men sitting at the table. The men, feeling her gaze, looked up and waved at her.
May turned away, not wanting to see them any longer, and said to Zoe, “You take the drinks to them. I don’t want to deal with those nasty men anymore.”
With that, she went to the dressing room, grabbed her bag, and left through the back door. Bie, coming out of the restroom, saw May leaving with a scowl and slammed the door behind her.
Bie raised his eyebrows and walked over to the bar, asking Zoe, “Did someone upset May?”
Zoe nodded and glanced at the table with the three men. Bie followed Zoe’s gaze and asked, “What did they do?”
Zoe didn’t want to discuss the man’s rude actions anymore. He simply shook his head and pushed the tray of drinks towards Bie. “Please take these drinks to the customers.”
As Bie carried the tray away, Zoe kept a close eye on the three men. Alongside him, Jill, a ghost, was radiating an intense, icy anger. Jill stared at the three men, who were laughing and drinking at the bar, grinding its teeth in fury. The ghost’s translucent form exuded a chilling cold, causing the bottles of wine on the shelves to freeze. Jill growled, its voice filled with bitter hatred.
“It’s them, it’s definitely them.”
Zoe, puzzled, whispered, “What are you talking about? Who are ‘they’?”
Jill pointed at the three men. “Those three, they are the ones who deliberately killed me. I’ve never forgotten their faces over the years.”
Jill’s mouth twisted into a malevolent smile. “Finally, we meet again. No need to search for them; this is perfect.”
Zoe looked at the three men and then back at Jill. The men were older, possibly in their fifties. If Jill were still alive, she would likely be much older than Zoe, more like a grandfather than a peer. Jill’s current attitude was one of intense anger. Was it possible Jill wanted to seek revenge on them?
Zoe hesitated and asked Jill, “What do you want to do?”
Jill paused, turning to look at Zoe with a thoughtful expression. Jill considered that this was Zoe’s workplace, and acting out of anger to kill them for revenge right now would be risky. Zoe might use his power to stop Jill or even consume Jill’s soul in a fit of rage, disrupting Jill’s plans.
Jill restrained its anger, pulling back its murderous intent. It couldn’t kill them right now, especially not in front of Zoe.
Jill forced a smile, a seemingly harmless smile that evoked sympathy. “No, I don’t intend to do anything. It’s just seeing them again reminded me of their wicked deeds, and I feel a bit angry.”
Zoe comforted Jill, “It’s okay, Jill. The past is behind us. One day, they will face retribution for what they’ve done to you.”
Jill contemptuously eyed the three drunken men, thinking, Retribution? If there were truly retribution, why are these scum still alive? Why do they have such a pleasant and privileged life? Looking at them, it’s clear none of them have faced any consequences. But I won’t wait for their retribution. I will make them regret the crimes they’ve committed.
Seeing Jill still staring at the three men, Zoe softly suggested, “Maybe you should go out for a walk. I’ll come find you once I’m done here.”
“Alright.”
Jill immediately vanished from the bar, but it didn’t leave. It was sitting in the enemies' car, waiting. Tonight, it was determined to settle the score.
