Chapter 41
[
SOLENE'S POV
]
I did not expect that Damon would react that way when I said I had already regained my memories. I had already assured him that nothing and absolutely nothing will change in me but he was still doubtful. That's why in order to prove to him that I am not lying and that I am keeping my word, I did my best to do and fulfill all my duties and responsibilities as an Empress and as his wife.
A big change was seen at the palace, the servants are no longer scared of me. Although there are still times that they are afraid but it wasn't like before where they tremble in fear with just my presence.
Father, he was locked up in prison and he will stay there until his last breath. His Majesty wanted to take his life as his punishment and I actually agreed with it. Celestia had suffered too much because of him and even me, but in the last moment, Damon changed his mind. In honor and in respect that he was still my birth father, His Majesty spared him and instead put him in prison.
The kingdom's relics that Celestia had stolen before was retrieved and is now back at the treasure house. That was the missing item that Damon had asked me before. Since I already had Celestia's memories, I am able to tell him where to find it. Good thing, Father did not sold the relics.
"Empress," There was a knock on the door and the door opened.
"Your Majesty, here is the tea that you requested." Sacha entered with a tray on her hands.
"Thank you Sacha." I told her after she carefully placed the tea on the side of my table.
"You are absolutely welcome, Your Majesty."
I smiled. "Is His Majesty back yet?"
"Not yet Empress. I will surely inform you once he returns."
"Alright."
Since it's already the end of the winter season, Damon went out to patrol around the Kingdom and to make sure that everything is ready and prepared for the summer season where beasts will be rampant again. And in order to help him at least, I had been reading and reviewing the documents that he left here in his office. I had actually already finished all of them and I will just have a short tea break before going out to inspect the palace.
Once I am finished, I went out of his office and went straight to the garden to wait for Damon's return. He told me we would go out tonight. I was surprised that he still remembers my plan of going out of the palace to roam around. Now I realized I still did not do that plan of my mine. Although I went out weeks before, that is because I went out to meet Father which resulted to a great disaster yet it had also a good side since I was able to talk for the last time with Celestia before we both moved forward with our lives.
When the sun finally went down and it's starting to get dark, I stood up to return to my chambers but I saw Sacha walking towards me.
"Empress, His Majesty had returned." She informed me.
"Alright. I was about to return to my chambers." I told her.
"Just in time Empress. His Majesty had told me to inform you to get dress."
Deborah was the one who dressed me up once we returned to my chamber. I liked her to dress me up since we both had the same taste when it comes to fashion. A classic style but simple and elegant.
"It's all done, Your Majesty." Deborah smiled at me with delight after putting the last peace of head dress in my hair.
"Thank you Deborah."
"Have a safe trip Empress. Be careful not to ever leave His Majesty's side." Deborah carefully told me.
I nodded at her. It is such a blessing to have someone like her to take care of me. She reminded me of my late mother.
I went out of my chambers with them following me and proceeded to the palace living room and there I saw Damon. Once our eyes locked, I smiled at him. He was so elegant tonight.
"Are you done getting ready?" He asked.
"Yes Your Majesty."
He then led me outside the palace. A carriage was parked outside pulled on by several horses, waiting for us. Damon went up the carriage first before helping me. Once we are settled inside, Damon ordered the coach man and the carriage started to move.
"Where will we go, Your Majesty?" I asked.
"It's up to you. You can pick where you want us to go. After all, this trip is for you." He said then looked at me.
"Ahm," I tried to think.
I honestly don't have any destination in mind. Before, I only planned to go outside because I wanted to know if the Divine Priestess is still looking for me. But now that everything was already alright, I didn't know where to go. I just agreed for us to go out because I wanted to spend time with His Majesty.
Not able to think of any destination, I turned to look at Damon.
"Well, I really don't know where I wanted to go. Your Majesty can pick the place instead." I said and smiled at him sheepishly.
He narrowed his eyes at me but later on, nodded.
"Alright."
When the carriage stopped, Damon stepped out and then helped me get off after.
"Where are we?"
"Were at the plaza," he replied. "Do you remember this place?"
I looked around and my gaze stopped at the bridge. I smiled when the memory played in my mind.
"Yes." I gave him a soft smile. "This is where we first saw each other."
"Your memories is really back." He said, half anxious and half amused.
I chuckled lightly and strode towards the bridge and Damon followed.
"I already told you, didn't I? Nothing will change. I am really sincere when I said I wanted to change so rest assured Your Majesty."
He remained silent but his gaze wavered at my face. I stared at him too and we stood there on top of the bridge, the bright moon lit providing light for us.
"Then.." He said but didn't continue. He was composed and calm but I am not sure if that's what he really feel. He was the type that is hard to read. So, I kept my gaze at his face and waited for him to continue whatever that he wanted to say.
"..I wanted us to start over."
My brows furrowed in confusion. Although I somehow understand what he means, I was still doubtful that I might've misinterpreted his words so I decided to ask for more confirmation.
"What do you exactly mean Your Majesty? Starting over with what?" I cautiously asked.
"Our relationship Celestia." He said. "We started our relationship in the wrong foot. And I admit, I also didn't give you a chance to know you better. Infact I didn't even tried to so now, I just wanted us to move forward and not to think about the past anymore."
"You're not saying for us to forget about the past, aren't you?"
While it was comforting that he doesn't want the old Celestia to come back and that it was me that he wanted to start over with, I do not want to deny Celestia's past. Especially that I now know her sufferings. Although her actions weren't justifiable enough, still. I don't want to deny her her past.
"Of course not. I'm only saying that we should look at the present now and the future together."
A warm feeling spread in my heart hearing his words. I know it's too rush to say that I had fallen in love with him already but one thing I am certain of is that, I liked this man. He had been so nice to me and had treated me good. Now that he had given our relationship a chance, why not grab it, right?
With a smile, I nodded my head at him.
"Okay. Let's start over then."
A wide genuine smile spread across his face. He moved closer, his hands to my back, asking silently for permission. I gave him a small nod and so, he drew closer peppering kisses all over my face and finished it off with a gentle kiss in my lips.
I smiled upon his lips, an overflowing joy filled my heart.
Oh it's so nice that in this bridge is where he and Celestia first met in the past. And now, in the present, we are at the same bridge, but not him and the old Celestia but it was me and him.
Empress Celestia and Emperor Damon.
That is us and we are going to start over again and this time, together.
