Chapter 40

[
SOLENE'S POV
]
I am confused even after opening my eyes. Even though I am not seeing an endless ground anymore but instead I am now seeing my room, the boundary between dream and reality is still vague. I could not quite comprehend if I am still inside a dream or if what I'm seeing right now is reality.
For minutes, I stayed immobile, still having second thoughts but Damon's firm arms that were hugging me tight is a confirmation that I was not dreaming anymore. This is reality. And it was his voice that I heard in my dream. He was the one calling me and because of him, I was able to get out and able to open my eyes. And so, I moved my hands to hug him back. When he felt my movement, he immediately let go of me to look at my face.
"Are you alright?" He asked worriedly, his gentle gaze focused on me.
"Ahm," I blinked my eyes trying to feel if anything is wrong with me but when I felt none, I nodded.
"Yes, I am alright."
But when I remembered that before I lost consciousness, I was at the inn at the market where I met Father but now that I woke up, I am back at the palace and I am inside my chamber. My eyes then went wide as I look at Damon.
"Why?" He immediately asked. "Do you still feel any pain? Do you feel weird anywhere?"
I gulped. Now I understand why he looks so worried. He might had found out about what happened. About what Father did to me.
But seeing his worried expression, I needed to assure him first. He looked really disoriented.
"I don't feel any pain now. I am perfectly fine."
But rather than be assured, he sighed at me. He was nowhere convinced.
"Uh, when did you arrived?" I asked him in hopes to change the topic but he looked more gloomier than before with my question. He is not happy at all.
"Are you seriously more concerned of when did I returned Celestia than of what had happened today?"
I bit my lips and lowered my head. Okay, I'm wrong. That was such a stupid question.
He sighed yet again.
"I clearly told you, you are only allowed to go outside the palace if you had bodyguards with you. You gave me your word so I was confident to leave you here knowing that you'll always be safe yet why did you left the palace without any bodyguard?"
"I'm sorry," I looked up at him apologetically.
"It was my mistake. Since I was meeting Father, I thought there's no need, um, to bring bodyguards."
"Your Father.." His voice was very low.
I bit my inside cheeks. He really knew what Father did to me. I looked sullenly at him. He doesn't know anything about what Father had been doing. For two years, it remained a secret from him. He was clueless not until today.
The sound of Father's slap that hit my cheeks was still ringing in my ears. It was a memory that I wished I could forget including those that he did in the past. It is.. uncomfortable and painful.
"I will agree to whatever punishment you'll give him," I said before he can say anything. I don't know what he did but I am sure he already reprimanded Father.
"But.. can, um, can we please not talk about him today?"
Damon narrowed his eyes at me. He certainly wanted to discuss what happened but after a few seconds, he nodded agreeing to my request.
"Alright. But I'll be sure to discuss it with you next time."
"Thank you." I smiled at him as I sigh in relief.
Honestly, all I wanted right now is to forget all the memories that includes Father including those of that happened in the past. It was all... painful. I don't want to remember nor keep those memories.
"Stay here. I'll call for a doctor." Damon suddenly said like he remembered that he should've done that since earlier.
As I stare at him, he still looks worried and was not convince at all that I am fine so I said no more as I nodded.
"Okay."
When the door clicked closed after he stepped out of the room, I reclined back at my bed's headboard and let out a sigh. Although so much things had happened today, I am surely fine and at ease. The things that I had been overthinking this past days and weeks were all answered today now that I knew and gained Celestia's memories and she even gave her consent for me to fully assume her identity without thinking about her. I had now the free will to do anything as I am officially Celestia. And this is my name now, this is my body, and this is my life. I can finally move on and move forward to the present without worrying about anything.
And as I continue with my musings, the door opened and Damon entered together with the doctor.
"Greetings Empress." The doctor bowed at me.
I nodded at him and upon Damon's permission, he started to check me.
"Do you feel any pain or discomfort anywhere, Empress?" The doctor began to ask.
I shook my head. "No. I don't."
"Then do you still feel dizzy and nauseous?"
Again, I shook my head.
"I don't. I am honestly fine."
I only lost consciousness because of the heavy impact of Father's slap but I am certainly fine right now. I am not sick anywhere either so I felt perfectly fine. I wanted to tell him there's no really need of him to check me but I could only sit quietly and let him do his job just so Damon won't worry further.
"There isn't a clear explanation about suddenly lossing consciousness out of the blue but fortunately, Her Majesty's condition does not seem to be severe, so I will prescribe some medication to aid her dizziness and nausea. Getting a good amount of rest too will help the Empress recover faster." The doctor explained after further examination.
Damon seemed to be satisfied with what the doctor said and so he dismissed him. When he left, only silence remained inside the room.
It was a bit awkward knowing I made a huge mistake. Damon was watching me silently and I could only look down.
"I'd like to apologize Your Majesty for all that had happened today." I said.
"You have nothing to apologize for."
"I think I do," I look at him. "None of this would had happened if only I didn't went out."
Damon sighed and look away. But after a minute, he cleared his throat and look at me again.
"You should get some rest." He said and moved to leave the room but I called him.
"Your Majesty.." He paused when he heard me and turned to look.
"Can.. can you stay for a while?" I softly asked. "I have something to tell you."
"I thought you said you don't want to talk about your Father today?"
"No," I shook my head. "It's not about him. It's about something else."
With furrowed brows, he walked back and sat at the edge of my bed.
"What is it?"
I cleared my throat.
"I wanted to inform you that I finally gained back my memories."
"What?!" His eyes widened to their limits.
And much to my surprise, he stood up from the bed and took a step backward away from me like he was afraid.
