Chapter 16: The Arrest.

As I arrived at the police station, I was greeted by my team of trusted partners, Rodriguez, Peter, Paul, and Mike. We had a big day ahead of us, and I knew we had to be sharp. We were about to take down two men who had been accused of embezzling funds from their own company, and we had to make sure we did it by the book.
"Alright, guys. Let's get down to business," I said, gathering them around the conference table. "Today's the day we take down Jordan and Phillips Thompson for embezzling funds from their own company."
Rodriguez, a seasoned veteran, nodded thoughtfully. "We've got the evidence, boss. The financial records show a clear pattern of embezzlement, and we've got witnesses who can testify to their involvement."
Peter, a young and ambitious detective, spoke up. "But what about Sarah Thompson? She's the CEO of the company. Doesn't she have any idea what's been going on?"
I shook my head. "From what we've gathered, Sarah had no knowledge of her brothers-in-law's activities. They've been using the company's funds for their own gain, and she's been left in the dark."
Paul, a quiet and reserved member of the team, spoke up. "What's the plan, boss? How do we take them down?"
I smiled, a sense of satisfaction washing over me. "We've got a warrant for their arrest, and we're going to execute it today. We'll send a team to their office, and another to their homes. We'll take them by surprise, and we'll make sure they don't have a chance to destroy any evidence."
Mike, a burly and imposing figure, nodded enthusiastically. "I'll take point on the office team. I'll make sure we get in and out without any issues."
I nodded, a sense of confidence growing within me. "Alright, let's gear up and get moving. We've got a job to do."
As we arrived at the Thompson company's office, I could feel the tension building. We had a team of officers surrounding the building, and Mike was leading the charge.
"Police! We have a warrant for the arrest of Jordan and Phillips Thompson!" Mike boomed, his voice echoing through the halls.
I followed close behind, my eyes scanning the office for any sign of the brothers. We moved swiftly, securing the area and making our way to their offices.
Jordan Thompson, a tall and lean man with a smug expression, looked up from his desk, a hint of surprise on his face. "What's going on here?" he demanded.
I smiled, a sense of satisfaction washing over me. "Jordan Thompson, you're under arrest for embezzlement. Please stand up and turn around."
Phillips Thompson, a shorter and more portly man, looked up from his desk, a look of panic on his face. "This can't be happening," he stammered.
I nodded to Rodriguez, who stepped forward to cuff the brothers. "You're both under arrest. Please come with us."
As we led them out of the office, I couldn't help but feel a sense of justice being served. We had taken down two men who had been using their positions of power for personal gain, and we had done it without incident.
But as we were leaving the office, I caught a glimpse of Sarah Thompson, standing in the doorway, a look of shock and outrage on her face.
"What's going on?" she demanded, her voice firm but shaking with emotion.
I took a deep breath, preparing to break the news to her. "Sarah, I'm afraid your brothers-in-law have been embezzling funds from the company. We've arrested them, and we'll be taking them in for questioning."
Sarah's eyes widened, her face pale with shock. "No...this can't be happening," she stammered.
I nodded sympathetically. "I'm afraid it's true, Sarah. But we'll do everything we can to ensure that justice is served."
As we led the brothers away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. We had taken down two men who had been using their positions of power for personal gain, and we had done it without incident. But I knew that this was only the beginning. There would be more to come, and I was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As we arrived at the police station, I could feel the tension building. We had a long day ahead of us, and I knew we had to stay focused. We would be questioning the brothers, and we would be gathering more evidence to build our case.
"Alright, guys. Let's get to work," I said, gathering my team around me. "We've got a lot to do today."
Rodriguez nodded, a sense of determination on his face. "We're ready, boss. Let's do this."
As I entered the interrogation room, I was met with the defiant stares of Jordan and Phillips Thompson. They were seated in chairs, their hands cuffed to the table, and their faces twisted in anger. The air was thick with tension, and I could feel the weight of their resentment towards me.
"This is a mistake," Jordan spat, his voice venomous. "We're being falsely accused. We've done nothing wrong."
I raised an eyebrow, my expression skeptical. "Save it, Jordan. We have evidence of your embezzlement. You're not as slick as you think you are." I pulled out a stack of papers from my folder and began to sift through them, my eyes scanning the documents.
Phillips snorted, his face reddening. "You don't know what you're talking about. We've been trying to help you, detective. We've been trying to help you find our brother's murderer."
I leaned forward, my eyes narrowing. "Don't play dumb, Phillips. We know all about your little scheme. You've been using the company's funds for your own gain, and now you're trying to cover your tracks." I slid a paper across the table, a financial report that clearly showed their embezzlement.
Jordan's face turned white with rage. "That's not true! We've been trying to help you, I'm telling you. We've been trying to uncover the truth about our brother's death."
I smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "I think you're forgetting one thing, gentlemen. Mr. Ivan has been in touch with me. He's provided me with all the evidence I need to take you down." I pulled out a small recorder from my pocket and pressed play, Mr. Ivan's voice filling the room.
The brothers' faces fell, their eyes widening in shock. They exchanged a panicked glance, and I could almost see the wheels turning in their minds as they realized they had been trapped.
"No...that can't be," Phillips stammered. "He wouldn't do that to us."
Jordan's face turned red with anger. "You're just trying to frame us! This is a setup!" He slammed his fist on the table, making the papers jump.
I leaned back in my chair, a sense of satisfaction washing over me. "I'm afraid it's too late for that, gentlemen. The evidence is against you, and Mr. Ivan's testimony is the nail in your coffin. You're going down for embezzlement, and maybe even more." I stood up, towering over them.
The brothers' faces crumpled, their composure shattered. They knew they were beaten, and they knew they had no way out.
"It's over," I said, my voice firm but controlled. "You're going to cooperate with us, and you're going to tell us everything we want to know. Or...you can take your chances with a jury. The choice is yours." I sat back down, my eyes never leaving theirs.
Jordan and Phillips exchanged a defeated glance, and then they nodded, their shoulders slumping in defeat.
"Okay," Jordan muttered. "We'll cooperate."
I smiled, a sense of triumph washing over me. "Good choice, gentlemen. Let's get started." I pulled out a notebook and pen, ready to take notes.
As I began to question them, I could feel the tension in the room dissipating. The brothers were broken, and they knew they had no way out. They would tell me everything I wanted to know, and they would do it without hesitation.
The game was over, and I had won. But as I looked into their defeated faces, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to this case than met the eye. There were still questions unanswered, and there were still secrets waiting to be uncovered.
I made a mental note to keep digging, to keep pushing until I uncovered the truth. This case was far from over, and I was just getting started. I was determined to follow every lead, every hint, every suspicion, until I uncovered the truth.
As the interrogation continued, I could feel the brothers' resistance wearing down. They were beginning to crack, and I knew it wouldn't be long before they spilled everything.
And then, just as I thought I had them right where I wanted them, Phillips spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper.
"There's something you should know, detective."
I leaned forward, my ears perked up. "What is it?"
Phillips glanced at Jordan, who nodded slightly.
"We didn't act alone," Phillips said, his voice trembling. "There was someone else involved. Someone who helped us...and someone who wanted our brother dead."
My eyes narrowed, my mind racing with possibilities. Who was this mysterious person? And what was their motive?
I made a mental note to investigate further, to follow this new lead and see where it took me.
The game was far from over, and I was just getting started.
"The Mr X you're obsessed about, is much closer than you think.... Mr Ivan possibly didn't reveal his identity to you, but we will, but on one condition." Jordan said with a wicked grin on his face, that means they already knew their brother's murderer all this while, yet hid it from me.
