Chapter 18: Troubled Minds.

I called in Rodriguez, Peter, and Paul, gathering them around me in a quiet corner of the police station. I wanted to share my thoughts on the situation, to bounce my ideas off of them and see if they had any insights.
"Guys, I think we're dealing with a much bigger picture here," I said, my voice low and serious. "All of the Thompsons are dead, and it's clear that Mr. X is behind it. But the question is, who is behind Mr. X? Who would gain the most from the deaths of the Thompsons?"
Rodriguez frowned, his brow furrowed in thought. "That's a good question, detective. But I'm not sure I see how anyone would benefit from their deaths. I mean, the Thompsons were a powerful family, with a lot of connections and influence. Who would want to take them down?"
I nodded, my eyes scanning the room. "That's what I'm trying to figure out. Mr. Ivan, the president of the organization, can't receive his debt from the Thompsons anymore. So, he can't gain anything from their death. That rules him out, in my opinion."
Peter spoke up, his voice thoughtful. "But what about Sarah Thompson? She's the one who stands to gain the most from their deaths. The Thompson company and everything will now be hers."
I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. "That's true. But does she have the motive to do something like this? She's the wife of Gabriel Thompson, the eldest of the Thompsons. Would she be capable of orchestrating his death, along with the deaths of his brothers?"
Paul shook his head. "I don't know, detective. She doesn't seem like the type to do something like this. She's always been portrayed as a kind and gentle person."
I frowned, my eyes narrowing. "That's what I thought too. But we can't rule her out just yet. We need to investigate her alibi, see if she has any connections to Mr. X. We need to find out if she's been in contact with him, if she's been receiving any messages or instructions from him."
Rodriguez nodded, his face set in determination. "I'll get on that right away, detective. I'll start digging into her background, see if I can find any connections to Mr. X. I'll also look into her financial records, see if there's any suspicious activity."
I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. "Good. And Peter, I want you to look into the Thompson company's finances. See if there's anything suspicious, any large transactions or withdrawals that could indicate Sarah's involvement."
Peter nodded, his eyes already scanning the room for any signs of evidence. "I'm on it, detective. I'll also look into the company's dealings, see if there's any connection to Mr. X or Sarah Thompson."
As we continued to discuss the case, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were missing something. That there was a piece of the puzzle that we hadn't yet considered.
"Guys, let's think about this," I said, my voice low and thoughtful. "If Sarah Thompson is involved, what would be her motive? Would she be trying to gain control of the company, or is there something more personal at play?"
Rodriguez frowned, his brow furrowed in thought. "I'm not sure, detective. But I think we need to consider the possibility that there's more to this case than meets the eye. Maybe there's a personal vendetta at play, something that we haven't yet uncovered."
I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. "You're right, Rodriguez. We need to dig deeper, to find out what's really going on here. Let's get to work."
As we dispersed to start our investigation, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. We were dealing with a complex web of motives and alliances, and it was going to take time and effort to untangle it all. But I was determined to get to the bottom of it, to find out who was behind the deaths of the Thompsons and bring them to justice.
The game was on, and I was ready to play.
"Let's get to work, guys," I said, my voice firm and resolute. "We have a lot of ground to cover, and not a lot of time to waste. Let's start by interviewing Sarah Thompson, see if she has an alibi for the time of the murders."
Rodriguez nodded, his face set in determination. "I'll get on that right away, detective. I'll also start looking into her background, see if there's any connection to Mr. X."
Peter spoke up, his voice thoughtful. "I'll start looking into the Thompson company's finances, see if there's any suspicious activity. I'll also look into the company's dealings, see if there's any connection to Mr X.
Before my partners could head out to start their investigation, I decided to share some additional information with them. I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through the pictures I had taken earlier.
"Guys, take a look at this," I said, handing my phone to Rodriguez.
Rodriguez took the phone and started scrolling through the pictures. His expression changed from curiosity to surprise, and then to concern.
"What is it?" I asked, noticing his reaction.
Rodriguez handed the phone to Peter, who started scrolling through the pictures as well. "It's John Thompson, Sarah's son," Rodriguez said, his voice low and serious. "He's a young boy, 12th grade, if I'm not mistaken."
I nodded, my eyes on Rodriguez. "That's right. And he's probably going to take over everything from his mom at the right age. Maybe he's a suspect too."
Peter looked up from the phone, his eyes wide with surprise. "You think the kid could be involved?"
I shrugged. "I don't know, but we need to consider all possibilities. He's the next in line to take over the Thompson empire, after all."
Rodriguez was still looking at the pictures, his expression growing more and more uncomfortable. "What's bothering you, Rodriguez?" I asked, noticing his reaction.
Rodriguez hesitated, his eyes scanning the room as if he was looking for an escape. "It's...it's the girl in the pictures with John," he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper.
I raised an eyebrow, my curiosity piqued. "What about her?"
Rodriguez took a deep breath before answering. "She's...she's my daughter, Amanda. She's John's girlfriend."
Peter's eyes widened in surprise, and he looked at Rodriguez with a new understanding. "I had no idea, Rodriguez. Sorry, man."
Rodriguez shook his head, his expression a mix of emotions. "It's not your fault, Peter. I just...I didn't expect to see my daughter's picture in a murder investigation."
I placed a hand on Rodriguez's shoulder, trying to offer some comfort. "We'll be careful, Rodriguez. We'll make sure Amanda is okay."
Rodriguez nodded, his eyes still fixed on the pictures. "I appreciate that, detective. But I need to know...what's going on here? Is my daughter in danger?"
I hesitated, unsure of how to answer. "We don't know yet, Rodriguez. But we'll do everything we can to find out. And we'll make sure Amanda is protected."
Rodriguez nodded, his expression determined. "I want to be involved in this investigation, detective. I want to make sure my daughter is safe."
I nodded, understanding his concerns. "You're already involved, Rodriguez. We'll work together to get to the bottom of this."
As we continued to discuss the case, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. We were dealing with a complex web of motives and alliances, and now we had a personal connection to the case. But I was determined to see it through, to find out who was behind the deaths of the Thompsons and bring them to justice.
The game was on, and I was ready to play.
"Let's get to work, guys," I said, my voice firm and resolute. "We have a lot of ground to cover, and not a lot of time to waste. Let's start by interviewing Sarah Thompson, and then we'll talk to John and Amanda."
Rodriguez nodded, his face set in determination. "I'll go with you, detective. I want to make sure my daughter is safe."
Peter spoke up, his voice thoughtful. "I'll start looking into the Thompson company's finances, see if there's any suspicious activity. I'll also look into the company's dealings, see if there's any connection to Mr. X."
I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. "Good. Let's get to work. And Rodriguez, try to keep your personal feelings out of this. We need to stay objective and focused."
Rodriguez nodded, his expression serious. "I'll try, detective. But it's hard when it's my daughter's life on the line."
I understood his concerns, but I knew we had to stay professional. "I know, Rodriguez. But we'll get through this together. We'll find out who's behind this and bring them to justice."
As we headed out to start our investigation, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. We were dealing with a complex case, and now we had a personal connection to it. But I was determined to see it through, no matter what.
The game was on, and I was ready to play.
"Let's go," I said, leading my team out of the police station. "We've got a lot of work to do."
