Chapter 20 VALENTIN

Finally it was resumption week, all the students were around for the welcome back to school party.
It was really ethic, everyone dress up in beautiful gowns and suit and were all hanging out with their friends and boyfriend.
I walked into the party, feeling a mix of emotions. I was happy to see everyone, but I couldn't help but feel a little left out. Everyone seemed to be coupled up, holding hands and laughing together. I, on the other hand, was alone.
I scanned the room, looking for a familiar face. That's when I saw Sarah, my friend, waving at me from across the room. I made my way over to her, feeling a sense of relief.
As I approached, I noticed Valentin standing next to her, looking handsome in his suit. Our eyes met, and for a moment, I felt like I was transported back to when we were together.
Sarah noticed my gaze and followed it to Valentin. "Hey, Ava, I was just talking to Valentin about you," she said, a sly grin spreading across her face.
I raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of trepidation. "What about me?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
Valentin spoke up, his voice low and smooth. "I was just telling Sarah how much I miss you, Ava. How much I wish things could go back to the way they were."
I felt a flutter in my chest, but I pushed it aside. I had made my decision, and I couldn't let myself get caught up in his charming words again.
"I'm happy for you, Valentin," I said, trying to sound sincere. "But I think we're better off as friends."
Valentin nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "I understand, Ava. But know this - I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
"I know," I said, trying to sound casual, and turned to leave with Sarah.
As we walked away, I could feel Valentin's eyes on me, boring into my back. I didn't dare look back, afraid of what I might see.
Sarah noticed my tension and nudged me playfully. "Hey, don't worry about him," she said. "You made the right decision. You deserve someone who makes you happy, not someone who scares you."
I nodded, trying to agree, but my mind was a jumble of emotions. I couldn't shake off the feeling that I had just hurt Valentin, that I had rejected him in front of everyone.
We spent the rest of the party laughing and dancing, trying to have a good time. But I couldn't shake off the feeling that Valentin was watching me, waiting for me to come back to him.
As the night wore on, I started to feel a sense of unease. I kept looking over my shoulder, expecting to see Valentin's brooding face. But he was nowhere to be found.
It wasn't until we were leaving the party that I saw him again. He was standing outside, leaning against the wall, his eyes fixed intently on me.
"Goodnight, Ava," he said, his voice low and husky.
I shivered, feeling a chill run down my spine. "Goodnight, Valentin," I replied, and quickly walked away with Sarah.
I was walking through the hall, lost in thought, when I suddenly heard a strange noise coming from the rooftop. At first, I thought it was just a stray cat, but then I heard it again - a faint rustling sound, followed by a low moan.
My curiosity piqued, I decided to investigate. I made my way to the rooftop, my heart beating slightly faster with every step.
As I reached the top, I was met with a sight that made my blood run cold. Valentin was standing there, his eyes glowing in the dark, his fangs sunk deep into the neck of a student.
I froze, my mind unable to process what I was seeing. The student, a girl I recognized from my psychology class, was limp in Valentin's arms, her eyes closed in a mixture of pain and pleasure.
Valentin's eyes snapped towards me, and for a moment, we just stared at each other. I could see the hunger in his eyes, the thirst for blood that seemed to consume him.
Then, in an instant, he was gone, disappearing into the night with his victim. I was left standing there, shaken and confused, wondering what I had just witnessed.
I tried looking for Valentin, but he was nowhere to be found. It was as if he had vanished into thin air. I searched the rooftop, the hallways, and even the parking lot, but there was no sign of him.
I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach. What I had seen was unsettling, to say the least. Valentin, the guy I had thought I knew, was a vampire. And he was preying on innocent students.
I felt a wave of fear wash over me as I realized that I had been so blind. I had let my feelings for him cloud my judgment, and now I was faced with the harsh reality.
As I walked back to my apartment, I couldn't help but wonder how many others he had hurt. And whether I was next on his list.
I locked my door and leaned against it, trying to calm my racing heart. I knew I had to tell someone what I had seen, but who would believe me? And what if Valentin came after me?
I was trapped in a nightmare, and I didn't know how to wake up.
