Chapter 44 Bonus - More Sweets To Come
Jonathan, who was in his office, suddenly sneezed.
"Sir?" A subordinate gave a concerned look, the papers he was just handing to Jonathan remained mid-air. He immediately called for Jonathan's secretary but was stopped by the CEO himself.
"I'm okay," Jonathan said, expressionless as he received the papers and ordered for the man to leave.
Why did it feel like someone was badmouthing him just now?
Shaking his head, Jonathan went over the papers on his desk, checking and signing what needed to be signed. It had only been a year since Mr. Hernandez officially retired, deciding he would travel the world and be happy as Stefani wished him to be while handing the CEO position to his son-in-law.
Jonathan himself knew it would only be a matter of time before these responsibilities would fall onto him. Yet, despite receiving such heavy obligations, Jonathan was calmer than he thought he would be.
It was probably because he had a very charming and adorable wife by his side.
After scanning through the papers one by one, another stack of papers was placed on his desk. Jonathan paused and started tapping his finger on the table. He glanced at his watch, paused, then he went back to the papers.
After a while, he would check his watch again, then seemingly as if restraining himself, cleared his throat and went back to check the pile of papers again.
After repeating this for about ten or so times, Jonathan finally let out a defeated sigh and fished out his phone.
He then dialed the number of the person he desperately wanted to see and hear the voice of.
After a few seconds, a voice answered, her tone a bit tired and almost sulking, "Hello?"
Just listening to that voice made Jonathan's heart swell, yet worry came first as he responded, "What's wrong with your voice? Where are you?"
Lately, this little wife of his was busy with her school projects. She was so occupied that it was even rare for her to have a regular six-hour sleep at night. Jonathan pitied Stefani's state but couldn't do anything as he knew times like this were inevitable for college students. However, this did not mean it should compromise Stefani's health.
"I'm on my way home..." Stefani answered. Her tone sounded weak as if she was about to cry.
Jonathan, knowing how hard college days could be, sighed then decided quickly. "Where are you right now?"
"Birdleaf Bookshop," Stefani answered.
"Stay there," Jonathan subconsciously used his authoritative tone, "Don't go anywhere. Just stay there, okay?"
Everyone was surprised as they watched the CEO suddenly come out of his office, with an almost hurried pace, he ordered his secretary to do some tasks and said that he'd be back a while later.
Stefani was kicking a stone on a white pavement in front of a bookshop when a car suddenly stopped, then came out a tall and handsome man in a suit.
Jonathan, who saw this scene of Stefani with a very dejected and depressed face, sighed and walked towards her.
Stefani, upon noticing her husband finally arrived, couldn't contain her real emotions any longer. A faint trace of tears was in the corners of her eyes as she stared at Jonathan.
"Do you want to talk about it inside the car?" Jonathan asked gently.
Stefani said nothing. Jonathan smiled lightly and pulled her, letting her in the backseat of the car. Jonathan placed Stefani's things in a space, then sat next to Stefani. Jonathan didn't say anything, only waiting for the younger to speak.
After a while of dead silence, Stefani began to rant. "Why... Why am I the only one working on this project? Can't they contribute at all? What happened to 'teamwork'? They said we're meeting today to continue where we left off, yet when I... When I arrived there..."
Suddenly, Stefani's tears fell. It was as if all the frustrations she felt the past weeks couldn't be contained anymore and she let them all out at this moment.
It turned out she was scheduled to meet her groupmates today for their project that was due next week. For the past weeks, Stefani worked hard and did all the tasks she was assigned to. Not only did she choose studying over sleeping, she sometimes didn't eat at all just to finish this damn project!
While he diligently worked hard as a student, there seemed to be students who carefreely did as they wished. Unfortunately, Stefani was grouped with such people. For the past weeks, these groupmates of hers were too laid back, always having excuses not to do their assigned tasks. And even today when they were supposed to meet, nobody showed up. It was only Stefani who came to the meeting place. She patiently waited for hours, yet she only received terrible excuses in their group chat.
Knowing how college life was like, Jonathan already thought of what happened from the start to the end and what his little wife felt. He remained silent until Stefani finished her rants. Then he gently pulled Stefani to his arms, embracing her silently and letting her cry all her frustrations as much as she wanted.
In contrast to his loving gesture, Jonathan's eyes were murderous. He had long decided not to stoop down to the younger generation's way of thinking these days but this... How dare these people make his wife cry?
Thinking it was already this serious to the point of making his Stefani cry, Jonathan decided he would need to come to Stefani's university soon, specifically meet the education board and prompt them to have changes in their education system. Especially in regards to these stressful projects and shitty groupings!
To the overly protective and in love husband like Jonathan, no matter how big or small the problem originally is, if it made his adorable wife cry or sad, he would absolutely have the people involved suffer and make them pay.
Although this kind of pampering was a bit exaggerated, Jonathan, this powerful and reasonable man, had long been known to be ready to do anything for Stefani. He had almost sacrificed his life for Stefani before, so what were a few words with Stefani's Department Dean to punish such irresponsible students?
Quietly forming his plans and next steps, he rubbed Stefani's back, thinking comforting his wife came first before anything else.
After a while, Stefani finally gained back her senses and pulled away from Jonathan's embrace. She seemed to be embarrassed after ranting and crying because of stress. With puffy eyes, she looked at Jonathan, "W-Why are you here by the way? Aren't you supposed to be at work?"
Jonathan held Stefani's hand and gently squeezed it, "I'm worried about you so I went to check. I can't continue working knowing you don't feel well emotionally."
Stefani, this person who hated being weak in front of anyone, frowned and came back to her usual stubborn self. "Who said I don't feel well? I'm alright. You- You don't need to worry about me. You should go back." Then she seemed to blush as she looked away, "I-I'll go home first and wait for you there."
Jonathan's heart was filled with warmth at the mention of home and Stefani waiting for him, yet he just couldn't let this person go at the moment. He didn't know having such warm feelings could actually make him greedy for more, always wanting more from Stefani.
When Stefani was about to open the door, she was shocked as she was turned around, a hand pulling the door close back again. Heart beating loudly, she stared at Jonathan incredulously and said, "You...!"
Jonathan stared at the panicking eyes of his forever partner and chuckled. Then in a low voice, he said, "I want to kiss you."
Hearing such a direct and honest sentence, Stefani's face turned completely red in embarrassment. Can't this person wait until they reach home? And what more, the sun was still up! Wasn't it a bit shameless? Blushing, she said, "W-We're still out--!"
But her words were left mid-air as Jonathan had already moved, holding her head to face him directly, kissing her on the lips.
They hadn't done anything with each other for the past weeks, considering the amount of load work from school and company projects, there was no time to be intimate for a long time. Aside from the small hugs and spooning at night when they slept, there were no other intimate moments that happened between the married couple.
So this kiss was actually filled with more warmth than expected. The accumulated held-back love was spread out quickly to both of them.
Stefani felt her knees go soft as Jonathan pulled her closer with an arm around her waist. His movements were extremely gentle and sweet, yet the eagerness and excitement were evident in each touch. Stefani shut her eyes, one hand moving up to Jonathan's neck up to the back of his head, pulling Jonathan herself and deepening their kiss.
Stefani felt her heart was about to explode. Her entire body was warm, her mind was dizzy, and her heart full of love as she and Jonathan shared a deep, intimate, and long kiss.
After the kiss, Jonathan didn't seem to be satisfied as he still gave soft gentle pecks on Stefani's lips while looking at her with a hot, tender gaze. With a hand still rubbing Stefani's nape intimately, he said in a low voice, "... Suddenly I feel like going home now."
Stefani felt her entire body heat up. Jonathan seldom voiced out these kinds of sexually suggestive words outside their house and Stefani, having the one remaining brain cell for reasoning kick in, reminded herself to be proper and decent... at least until her husband's work was over. So with a stammering voice, she said, "Y-You know you can't... H-How about I go with you to work instead?"
Stefani didn't want to be separated either. As shameful as it seemed, she wanted to be with Jonathan. Still, she knew what was right to do and what was not. She was afraid if they went home now, there would be no way for Jonathan to return to work anymore. This kind of attitude surely would be... improper and irresponsible as the president of the company.
Jonathan thought for a moment, staring down at Stefani's hand that was intertwined with his, collected himself with a deep breath and sigh and said, "All right, let's do that. We should grab a snack before going there. What do you want to eat?"
Actually, it wasn't the first time for Stefani to visit Jonathan at work. After their honeymoon, Stefani, this overly in love but won't admit it type of person, used to stick with Jonathan as much as she could without saying them directly. Instead, she had shamelessly used her position as Mr. Hernandez's daughter to stay in Jonathan's office and studied there. At that time, she had only just started university and there weren't many tasks to do so she practically enjoyed the time she spent and did whatever she liked while observing Jonathan from time to time.
As long as there is a Jonathan in that place, she wouldn't feel uncomfortable and out of place, even the slightest.
"There's a newly opened sweets shop nearby, let's go there," Stefani said, now sitting at the front seat while Jonathan by her side started the engine. Stefani suddenly felt hungry after that stressful event and what could be more fulfilling than sweets? Pressing her lips, she didn't forget to add, "Let's buy some for your workmates too."
"Okay," Jonathan replied, happily agreeing to whatever Stefani would say.
Soon, the two arrived at the shop, bought cakes, and when they arrived at the company, shared it with everyone at Jonathan's workplace. All the while Stefani stayed in Jonathan's office, nobody else dared to enter as they heard the faint sound of what could be described as a happy married life.
The atmosphere was light, the tears faded away, only the taste lingered on their lips.
As it turned out, the cake was extraordinarily sweet. Download Novelah App
