As I settled into my bed, my mind still reeling with thoughts of Dorothy, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had been building inside me all day. I had yet to see her since our encounter the previous night, and I was starting to worry that something was amiss. Just as I was about to blow out the candle on my bedside table, it suddenly flickered and went out on its own. The room was plunged into darkness, and I felt a chill run down my spine. I knew that I was not alone in the room. "Dorothy?" I called out, my voice barely above a whisper. "Is that you?" But the response I received was not what I had hoped for. Instead of Dorothy's soft voice, I heard a low, menacing chuckle. It was a sound that sent shivers down my spine, a sound that I had hoped never to hear again. "Valdez," I whispered, my heart sinking. It was Dorothy's father, the man who had terrorized me for so long. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw his shadowy form standing in the corner of the room. His presence seemed to fill the space, making me feel small and vulnerable. "What do you want, Valdez?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. He took a step closer, his eyes glinting in the dim light. "I've come for my daughter," he growled. "And I know she's been seeing you." My mind raced as I tried to think of a way to protect Dorothy. I knew that Valdez was not a man to be trifled with, and I feared for her safety. "I don't know what you're talking about," I lied, trying to stall for time. But Valdez just laughed, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Don't play dumb, boy," he sneered. "I know all about your little tryst with my daughter. And I'm here to put a stop to it." As he took another step closer, I knew that I had to act fast. I couldn't let him hurt Dorothy, not again. I had to find a way to protect her, no matter what it took. I was taken aback by Valdez's words, my mind reeling with confusion. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice shaking slightly. "I don't understand what you're trying to say." Valdez chuckled, a low, menacing sound that sent shivers down my spine. "You're really quite dense, aren't you?" he sneered. "I'm not here to harm you, at least not yet. I'm here to save you from yourself." I was even more confused now. "Save me from myself?" I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper. "What do you mean?" Valdez's eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if he could see right through me. "You're trapped in a cycle, a cycle of death and rebirth. And you're not even aware of it." I felt a chill run down my spine as he spoke. What was he talking about? "What do you mean?" I asked again, my voice shaking with fear. Valdez's smile grew wider. "You'll figure it out soon enough," he said. "But for now, just remember this: ask Dorothy how you died in your previous life. The next time she shows up at your door, ask her that." And with that, he vanished into thin air, leaving me staring at the spot where he had been standing. I was left with more questions than answers, my mind reeling with confusion and fear. What did Valdez mean? What cycle was I trapped in? And what did Dorothy have to do with it all? I lay in bed for hours, my mind racing with thoughts and questions. I couldn't shake the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't even imagine. And I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead, what secrets would be revealed, and what dangers would I face. As the night wore on, I finally drifted off to sleep, my mind still reeling with thoughts of Valdez, Dorothy, and the mysterious cycle that I was trapped in. As I walked into school the next day, I was met with a surprise I hadn't expected. Mrs. Jenkins, the school teacher, approached me with a serious look on her face. "Gabriel, someone is looking for you," she said, her voice firm but concerned. My mind raced with questions, wondering who it could be and what they wanted. I followed Mrs. Jenkins to the back of the school, my heart beating slightly faster with anticipation. As we approached a secluded area, I saw two tall, hefty men standing beside Chris. Mrs. Jenkins positioned herself behind me, as if to ensure I didn't try to escape. One of the men stepped forward, his eyes fixed on me. "Gabriel, my name is Uncle Jack, Chris's uncle," he introduced himself, his deep voice commanding attention. I nodded, trying to hide my apprehension. "What can I do for you, Uncle Jack?" I asked, trying to sound calm. Uncle Jack's eyes narrowed. "We've heard rumors about vampires in the woods, Gabriel. And we know you've been spending time in those woods." My heart skipped a beat as I tried to deny the accusation. "I don't know what you're talking about," I said, trying to sound convincing. But Uncle Jack's gaze didn't waver. "Don't play dumb, Gabriel. We know you've seen something. Tell us the truth." I felt a surge of fear, realizing that they must have been watching me. I tried to maintain my denial, but Uncle Jack's intense stare made me feel like he could see right through me. "I'm telling you, I don't know anything about vampires," I repeated, trying to sound firm. But Uncle Jack's expression only grew more skeptical. "We'll be watching you, Gabriel. And if we find out you're hiding something, there will be consequences." With that, they turned and left, leaving me feeling shaken and uneasy. I knew that I had to be more careful, that my secrets were not safe. And I wondered what other dangers lay ahead, waiting to strike.
