Chapter 22: Revelation.

As the two men, Uncle Jack and the other, turned to leave, Chris remained standing in place, his eyes fixed on me with a piercing gaze. The tension between us was palpable, and I could sense a deep-seated intensity emanating from him.
"Why are you protecting the vampires, Gabriel?" Chris asked, his voice low and even, but with an underlying edge.
I countered with a question of my own, trying to deflect his inquiry. "Who are you guys?" I asked, my eyes locked onto his.
Chris's expression turned solemn, and he took a step closer to me. "We are the vampire hunters," he declared, his voice filled with a sense of purpose and duty.
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his statement. "Vampire hunters?" I repeated, my tone laced with skepticism.
Chris nodded, his eyes gleaming with a fierce determination. "Yes, we are the descendants of a long line of vampire hunters. It's in our blood, our lineage. We've been hunting vampires for generations, long before we were even born."
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I listened to Chris's words. The gravity of his statement sank in, and I realized that I was dealing with something much deeper and more complex than I had initially thought.
"What do you mean, it's in your blood?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
Chris's expression turned solemn, and he hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Our family has been bound to this duty for centuries. We've been tasked with the responsibility of protecting humanity from the vampire threat. It's a sacred duty, passed down through our lineage."
I felt a sense of awe wash over me as I listened to Chris's words. The weight of his responsibility, the gravity of his duty, was palpable. And I realized that I had stumbled into something much bigger than myself, something that transcended my own small world.
I felt a surge of anger and betrayal as I realized that Chris's intentions had been false from the start. "So, you weren't trying to be my friend at all," I said, my voice trembling with indignation. "You only cared about getting information from me?"
Chris's expression turned defensive, and he shot back at me, "Look who's angry! You're acting like you took our friendship seriously. But you've been lying since the first day we met!"
I felt a stinging sensation from his words, but I refused to engage in an argument. Instead, I turned and walked away, leaving Chris standing alone. As I headed towards the classroom, my mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Dorothy. I hoped she was safe, and that Chris's family hadn't discovered her whereabouts.
The classroom door seemed like a refuge as I pushed it open and slipped inside. I took my seat, trying to focus on the lesson, but my mind kept wandering back to the confrontation with Chris. I couldn't believe that our friendship had been a sham, that he had only used me to gather information.
As the class progressed, my thoughts drifted to Dorothy, wondering if she was still in danger. I hoped that she had found a safe haven, and that Chris's family wouldn't harm her. The thought of her being in peril filled me with a sense of unease, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of responsibility that had settled on my shoulders.
The rest of the day passed in a blur, my mind preoccupied with thoughts of Dorothy and the secrets that surrounded her. I couldn't wait to see her again, to make sure she was safe, and to unravel the mysteries that shrouded her existence.
As I opened the door to my room, I was met with a sight that made my heart skip a beat. Dorothy was sitting on my bed, her eyes sparkling with mischief, and a sly smile spreading across her face. I felt a surge of surprise and delight, and my breath caught in my throat. I almost screamed, but my voice was stuck in my throat.
Dorothy burst out laughing at my reaction, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm sorry, I couldn't resist," she said, her voice husky and playful.
I felt my face flush with excitement as I closed the door behind me, my heart racing with anticipation. Dorothy's laughter was infectious, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear.
As I approached her, she stood up, her movements fluid and graceful. We stood facing each other, the tension between us palpable. I could feel the electricity in the air, and my senses were heightened.
Dorothy's eyes locked onto mine, her gaze burning with intensity. She took a step closer, her face inches from mine. I could feel her warm breath on my skin, and my heart skipped another beat.
And then, without another moment's hesitation, we shared a passionate kiss. Our lips met with a softness that belied the intensity of our emotions. The world around us melted away, leaving only the two of us, lost in the depths of our desire.
The kiss was like a dam breaking, releasing a torrent of emotions that had been building up inside us. It was a kiss that spoke of longing, of passion, of love. It was a kiss that left us both breathless and wanting more.
As we broke apart, gasping for air, I knew that nothing would ever be the same again. Our lives had intersected in a way that would change us forever. And I knew that I would never let her go again.
As our lips parted, I gazed into her eyes, my mind still reeling from the intensity of our kiss. I wanted to know more about her, about where she had been and what she had been doing. So, I asked her the question that had been on my mind since her disappearance.
"Dorothy, where have you been these past two days?" I asked, my voice soft and curious.
But instead of answering me directly, she laughed it off, a playful smile spreading across her face. "Oh, here and there," she said, her voice light and airy.
I could tell she was avoiding the question, her answer a clear evasion. I sensed a hint of mischief in her tone, a suggestion that she was hiding something from me. My curiosity was piqued, and I felt a slight pang of frustration.
"Dorothy, come on," I pressed, my voice gentle but insistent. "You can tell me. I want to know what's going on."
But she just laughed again, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Gabriel, you're so serious all the time," she teased. "Can't you just enjoy the moment and not worry about everything else?"
I felt a slight sting from her words, but I knew she was trying to deflect my question. I decided to let it go, not wanting to ruin the moment with more probing. But my mind was still racing with questions, and I knew I wouldn't let it go for long.
With a sigh, I let the matter drop, and we spent the rest of the evening lost in each other's eyes, the tension between us palpable. But I knew that eventually, I would need to confront her about her secrets, and I was determined to get to the bottom of it all.
