Rose

 *Cali POV*
I insisted that we come to see the Ruber pack because I know my brother. He is trying to water everything down, but he would not be insisting that I convince Leroy to come if there truly was nothing to worry about. The elders are thrilled to see us, but I can sense something they are not saying.
“Rogues are becoming a problem, Sire,” one elder says but Leroy is more focused on me than what is not being said.
“We have always had rogues, we have competent warriors to deal with them,” he tells them dismissively. They bow their heads respectfully. I guess they can sense his irritation that we had to come. Many are also very scared of the do-called Sable king.
I can’t contradict him here, but I need to have a word with Marcus and get to the bottom of what is really happening here.
“Okay, speak,” I command him the moment the elders are gone. He lets out a sigh and avoids Leroy, who is giving him unimpressed looks.
“We know how to handle rogues who trespass into our territory. We have beefed up the security, but it’s not working. They are not trespassing, it’s like they are already within our borders.”
I am analysing his words when Leroy responds.
“You are suggesting that our pack members are committing treason,” Leroy states and Marcus confirms.
“One of us is bringing them in through our borders. They are managing to bypass any security measure we have employed. It’s more of them everyday. It’s like they are preparing for something. I don’t know what is going on and the Epsilon has not been seen in over three weeks,” Marcus lets us in on his suspicions. This is huge, I get why he is worried. With Leroy spending most of his time away, someone can attempt a coup here.
“You should have told me this and not include my pregnant mate,” Leroy is still not impressed with Marcus for talking to me.
“He tried and I am pregnant not some fragile antique. This is our pack!” I snap at him and he chuckles. He can get on my nerves with his overprotective ways.
“I love you.”
I roll my eyes before sensing her. I am surprised that I sensed her before Leroy. I wonder who it is this time. My heart sinks when Rose walks in and literally runs to Leroy’s arms.
“Hello, Mate. I have always known that you are my destiny,” she declares while gazing at his eyes.
I am expecting Sky to go all crazy shouting mate and attempting to mark her, but he shocks all of us. He goes completely bizaak and strangles Rose instead. I can see her eyes pop out and her face pale out while his grip tightens around her neck.
“Leroy!” I cry out in horror while Alloy cheers him on.
“Kill her. Kill her.”
“Shut up, Alloy!” I use my Lycan voice before turning to Leroy who seemed to be in a trance of some sort.
“Cali is my only mate! Only one! I told you no more mates! Now watch me send her to you!”
It’s not Leroy who roars, but Sky. He is mad with the goddess, I can feel his anger.
I don’t know what to do now. Marcus has never liked Rose, he does not even try to talk Leroy out of killing her and Alloy is just as useless. I don’t like Rose either, but she was his childhood friend and I don’t want Leroy doing something he will regret.
“Leroy, Babe, look at me,” I urge and our eyes lock.
“We have beaten the odds without killing anyone. We can…” I don’t complete my sentence, loud hauls fill the air.
“We are under siege,” Marcus announces, making me frown. It is very easy to pick up wolves that are not from this pack by their hauling. It is a lot of them, but they are not rogues. It is neighbouring packs with their leaders.
“They are coming for you. I am sorry, I should have listened to you,” I tell Leroy. We have always known that the other Alpha’s were a threat to him. With me pregnant, they know that I am vulnerable and he will try to protect me at all costs.
“This whole thing was a setup. They knew that we would be here. It was all a setup, including her,” Alloy concludes and yanks Rose from Leroy’s grip.
“Start talking or I will squeeze the life out of you,” he warns and I have no doubt that he will do exactly that. The veins bulging on his neck proves just how much he is holding himself back from killing her.
“I…I…” Rose stutters.
“You what?” Alloy presses on and twists Rose’s fingers, making her scream out in pain.
“I will snap them off one by one until you talk,” he tells her and she sings like a choir.
“The witch told me that Leroy was my mate. She also told me that he would never accept me and that his wolf would try to kill me because of her. Leroy and I were meant to be together. It is not fair!” she cries.
“And you decided that he should die instead?” Alloy sneers.
She frantically shakes her head, but I can read through her. Anyone who knows her and her schemes would have been able to easily manipulate her.
“They got you to get them into the pack unsuspected under the pretence that they would kill me. You would get to be with Leroy.”
“He is my mate!” she yells. Entitled, selfish and evil. She has not changed a bit.
“Except they lied to you. I am a Lycan and the Golden Queen. None of them can bite me and live. They know this. They want Leroy dead, not me,” I spell it out to her and she whimpers.
“Leroy, that’s not true. I would never put your life in danger.”
