Ruber pack
*Leroy POV*
I can safely say that I am the happiest man alive. My queen is now six months pregnant. The past few months have been complete bliss. I watch her sleep with my heart full.
“Our mate is gorgeous,” Sky links and I chuckle right when she opens her alluring golden eyes and gaze at me. Lord, this woman is my life.
“Morning, Beautiful,” I greet her and plant a kiss on her lips.
“I look like a balloon ready to pop,” she refutes my words and sits up.
“You are the most beautiful pregnant woman I have ever seen,” I declare and she rolls her eyes at me and pokes my chest. She really is gorgeous, but she does not believe me.
“You are biased.”
“Alloy thinks so too,” I tell her and she rolls her eyes again.
“That smitten puppy does not count.”
I can’t help but laugh. Alloy is amongst the most powerful hybrids around, but he becomes worse than a smitten puppy around my wife. I suspect that it’s the connection with the girls but my wife refuses to hear it.
“Are you sure you are good to travel? We could…”
“Yes,” she cuts me off. “We have to go check the Ruber pack before it’s time. We have not been there in a while,” she explains, while I curse Marcus inside. Cali experienced the worst morning sickness because of the twins. She could hardly keep anything down the first few months. We have not been to see the Ruber pack for months because of that. Marcus and Flora are managing just fine, but I suspect he misses his sister and making excuses that the pack wants to see us.
“I accepted the responsibility to be their Luna when we mated. I can’t be seen to be only spending time with the Golden pack. Not to mention having stolen you as many see it,” she adds.
“You are my mate, not my ruler. I decide where I stay and when, not you. The idiots complaining about that can go to hell!” I can’t help but snap. I hate that my pack is blaming this on her when I am actually an adult. I prefer the Golden pack castle because it is more secured and I can’t take any chances with my mate, especially when she’s so pregnant like this.
“But I am your ruler, Leroy,” she refutes my words.
I raise my eyebrows at her statement. She’s right in a way, but that sounds cocky.
“You will always go with me wherever I go. You refuse to go anywhere without me. I don’t control you, but my decisions do have an impact on where you stay. In a way, they are right,” she explains her bold statement.
“Cali…” I try to object. She is vulnerable at this stage and everyone knows it. I might be the indestructible Sable King, but Cali is my weakness. Anyone who has her can make me do anything.
“We are going to Ruber city, Leroy. It is good for the pack,” she insists and I have no choice but concede. I call Marcus the moment she goes to the bathroom to freshen up.
“Listen you idiot, you better make the castle secure,” I hiss and the bastard laughs at me. He knew what he was doing when he spoke to Cali behind my back.
“Hi, Friend. What’s with the animosity so early? Sable king didn’t get any this morning?”
“I know that you spoke to Cali and now she’s insisting on coming to see the pack,” I get to the point and ignore his teasing.
“It’s good for the pack,” he says defensively, giving me the proof I dd not need that he is behind this.
“Funny, that’s exactly what she said.”
The bastard actually laughs.
“She is my sister. We think alike. I am assuming I should prepare a room for Alloy too?”
“Yep,” I confirm and brace myself for the lecture I am going to get from him when he learns that I failed to convince Cali not to go.
A few minutes later, I leave our chambers and find alloy seated on the stairs. He peeps behind me, obviously looking for my mate.
“You really are lucky that I am not the jealous type because you are weird as they come,” I tell him, but he hardly hears a word I say as usual.
“She is fine and getting ready for us to go to Ruber city.”
Alloy literally jumps on his feet.
“What? Are you crazy?”
“She wants to go.”
“It is a wrong decision.”
“Do you want to tell her that?” I ask and he hesitates. “Because I have tried,” I add and he lets out a sigh.
“I will get back-up,” he says before leaving me on the stairs. His back-up is his whole family. I am tempted to say he should not bother them with this but I don’t ever want to take things for granted.
Betty and the whole pack is also not happy about this travelling, but none of them can convince my stubborn mate otherwise.
It is mid-morning when we leave. The journey is uneventful. The pack elders are thrilled to see us, but I immediately regret not standing my ground the moment we settle in at the Ruber city palace and Sky stirs inside.
I am still trying to figure out what is going on with Sky when I sense my mate’s distress.
“What is it?” I ask and alloy is already here inspecting Cali from head to toe.
“Is it the babies? Should I get the physician?”
“No, Alloy. There is nothing wrong with the babies. There is nothing ever wrong with them!” Cali snaps, making me frown. Something is definitely wrong. Alloy gets on her nerves a lot, but she has never snapped at him like this.
“What is it?” I repeat my question and she avoids my eyes. I hold her jaw and force her to look at me. She is freaking out about something. I can feel her heart galloping.
“Your mate is here.”
I shake my head. “No.”
I thought we won this battle.
“Yes,” she says and rests her head on my chest. “I am so tired, Leroy. I don’t even know how much of this I can take.”
I look down at her, a chill descends my spine as my wolf goes crazy.Download Novelah App
