Sunday crawled like a snail and bored me in church. Every member in the church would think we lived peacefully at home because of the way Mrs. Eliza, my mom, and Mr. Williams danced wondered them. Mrs. Eliza had forced me to wear a white gown, and forced Harry to wear a black coat, then warned us to sit together in church. Even when one usher came to split us, Mrs. Eliza whispered something into her ear, then the usher walked away.
The moment that pains me most was when we had to go out together to drop offerings. I felt shy because I felt all eyes on us. In this life and the next to come, even if I had a chance to come to this world for the second time, I would never be anyone's enemy in the presence of Mrs. Eliza.
I and Harry couldn't eat when we returned home from church. It's not because we wear white and black to church nor because she didn't allow the user to split us. I don't know when Mrs. Eliza arranged some teens in the church. Those teens hurried to us as we shared the grace, and they asked us to do a favor for them. They want to snap pictures with us.
"I only like to be snap with a camera, not with phone," Harry had said back then.
His mom hurried to us, smiled like an angel. "I have a camera with me."
They jumped in joy and took us outside and forced us to stay in the middle. One stupid girl even gave me a flower, and because of the pastors smiling at us especially Mrs. Eliza, I collected it peacefully.
Mrs. Eliza darted to the front with the white camera, commanding us to smile. I fake a smile but Harry didn't. His face looks like an angry devil, who can't wait to eat someone alive. Balloons fell on us, teens were changing style, Mrs. Eliza was snapping. We only standstill without changing position.
"Let's leave them. It's taking longer than I expected," Harry said to me in a lower voice.
"You better wait." I lowered my voice, too. "We're at her mercy now."
Thank God he obeyed me that time. When we get home, Mrs. Eliza said she thought we won't cooperate. If we hadn't cooperated back then, she would have forced me to put a cake in Harry's mouth, and him to mine.
"Mom," Harry was saying now in the dining room. "Haven't you through punishing us."
"My son, I'm satisfied today. I won't disturb you anymore, but if you fight each other again..."
We waited for her to say the last word, but she didn't. Her silence means we have to find it out for ourselves.
I felt happy as I grabbed a stone eating rice. I can't wait to tell everything to Jean at school tomorrow.
Mr. Williams walked in. "Where are Jack and Robert."
"Playing PES in Jack's room," my mom said.
Mr. Williams gave his wife a peck on her neck. "I need to be there on time."
"Alright, darling."
"Dad, where are you going again?"
"I need to attend a meeting, Harry. Take care of your wife." He grinned and left my mom and his wife laughing here.
That night in my room, I slept peacefully in my room, but I miss him. Did I just do that? Yes, I'm missing him. I woke at the midnight to urinate, and when I returned from the toilet, I stand alone, staring at the clock. The time was three thirty-three. This time yesterday, I remembered Harry has wakened me from my dreams, complaining about my snores.
I returned to bed, bedsheets over me, but I couldn't sleep. I feel alone. Sluggishly, I opened my backpack, and then I remembered I hadn't done my assignment. Oh no. I hurried to the drawer to take the book I copied the mathematics assignment on.
After I did the assignment, I remembered I hadn't washed my school uniform, too. I have a spare one which was still clean in my wardrobe. Then I postponed washing the other one after I return from school.
What of my socks? Oh no. I didn't remember to bring the spare socks from our former house. I hurried to the wardrobe and took my dirty socks on it. After I washed my socks in the bathroom, I felt a feeling of inner peace. And now on the bed, I don't know when I slept off.
I wake up. Nothing wakes me up. I just wake up around five thirty-nine. My socks had dried when I walked to the bathroom. It gives me joy. After I took my bath, wear my school uniform, I unlocked my door and looked at the clock. The time was six-fifty.
I sat on my bed, staring at the door as if it should open by itself. Mom came in first, she was surprised I bathe on time. After she had left, the door was open, Harry walked in. He had worn his school uniform, too. His tye on his hand.
His lips want to move but didn't when I had wore a school uniform.
"What?" I asked
He looked at the clock. "We still have an hour to move."
"Alright."
He waited for a while as if he wants to say something but couldn't know how.
"What do you want to say?" I asked
"Your math notebook... Is it with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Have you done your assignment?"
"Oh no."
He leaned his back on the wall, looked up. His hand on his face. He had forgotten to do the assignment.
I smiled. "Can you copy mine if I did it?"
He raised his eyebrows. "Have you done it for real?"
I nodded.
"When?"
I packed my hair to the back. "At midnight."
"Give me, hurry."
"Hey." I stopped him as he hurried to my bed. "I'm not giving you again? It took me a whole night to tackle the mathematics. I can't just give you like that."
The happiness on his face changed to frown. He was lost for words to say.
"Hey, wait. Let's me give you before you cry." I opened my bag slowly so that he can abuse me and I won't give him to boost my ego. But he says nothing.
He hissed as he collect the book. And parched the book on my cheek, walking out.
He had closed the door before I said, "you dare to take my book away after you beat me."
After we had our breakfast, and after we entered the limousine. Mrs. Eliza told us that Robert would start schooling next week and then my mom waved her hand to us, wishing us a safe journey.
Here and now, in the car, Harry took out my mathematics book and his from his backpack and still writing it.
"Haven't you written it since?" I asked him
"It remains small."
"You are a slow writer."
He looked at me first, then continue writing.
After he wrote it and gave me my book, he looked at me, and then say, "Annie, don't tell anyone in the school of what happened between us." He paused, and his face makes me perceive that he wants to say something he don't want to say. "Annie, when we get to school. Let's pretend we don't know each other. Act like we're still fighting. Okay?"
I sighed. "Alright."
At that moment, he was uneasy with what he said but didn't want his friends to hate him. It would be better if we still act as an enemy.
But it is hard to say. I started liking him again.
