I paused, raised my eyebrows above the novel beneath me, sit up on my bed, and I wondered if I heard what he just said now. Was my ears heard that clearly? "You say?"
He shrugged his shoulder, gave me I-am-afraid-to-repeat-myself sort of gaze, which freeze me first. "Since today is Saturday, and since we won't go to school, it seemed I can't stand the bored alone till night in my room. I want us go out to play. Aren't you interested?"
"To play?" What kind of play? I stared at him.
"You are busy with that novel, right?" He took it, raised his eyebrows. It seemed it was because the novel was heavy. "What are you doing with this huge book?" He glanced at the novel, read the title, gaze at the cover picture for a while. The kissing couple had held his attention. His eyes returned to me. "Stand up, we should go out."
Is him still begging or commanding me? Actually, I was filled with delight to follow him, but I can't just accept just like that because of all his bad behavior he shown me in the past. I don't want him to disrespect me again if by chance we met his friends on the way. "As you can see that am busy reading it. So, I would like you to give it back to me. I'm not going anywhere."
"Why?" His brow was furrow. "Aren't you happy I told you follow me out today?"
"Why should I be happy?" I gave him did-you-just-align-from-the-sky glare. "Going out, especially with boy is not my thing. My novels are enough for me."
He raised his eyebrows once more. But now, it seemed they touched the sky. "Novels? Did you have many novels?"
I point toward a bookshelf beside the closing door, and he widened his mouth. The novels were glistening as he was counting them. It was fifty-five of them. He stared at me back, as if I was dropped from somewhere beyond the galaxies of the stars. "How, I mean, when did you become this bookworm?"
Since you disgraced me before your so called friends, I thought, but I managed to say, "Before we relocate here."
He dropped his jaw, dropped my novel on the bed, and then moves closer to the bookshelf, gazing at them. "Can I take one?"
"You don’t have right to touch my book."
"Annie," he said, and turned to me. He remembered, and I was glad to remind him. "Why are you such an unforgivable soul?"
You had wound me to this extent. "You slap me for touching your notebook that time, isn’t it? You have no right to touch my book, at all."
"Who care if I have the right anyway, you are in my dad's house." He took a novel, walked to me, then smiled. "It seemed you have read this book."
"How do you know?"
He opened the last page and look at me. His eyes was filled with curiosity. I know why, but who care? He drop his jaw once more. "Water? No, not. Is this not tears?" He looked at me. "Your tears on this last page?"
"The book was a tragedy."
'Like Romeo and Juliet?"
I nodded
"You are such a brat, how could you cry because of fake characters?"
"I don’t care. They are more real than we. They live in the soul."
He sat beside me; maybe he's interested in what I just said. But he gazes down, flipping pages now. The pages rolled in his elegant fingers. It stopped. And I know the reason. He had seen other tears in the middle of the book. He opened the last page again and stares on it for some minutes that seemed like hours, and then glanced at me for moment. "This book end happily."
I shrugged my shoulder. "But the middle was not."
"Why did you lie in the first place?"
"I have the right to lie."
He beamed, and then lay down on my bed. "I would like to know about the story that make you cry."
"I thought you knew the story already." It was the story of me and you, Harry.
"No, this was my first time holding it."
I ignored his words and focus on my novel. Then after an hour, I closed my novel, and then closed my eyes. The ending of the novel was so cool, and I wished to name my unborn baby the protagonist’s name which was Henry. I walked to the bookshelf to pick another novel. And I felt his eyes on me.
“How do you read that so crazy fast? You read more than hundred pages in an hour when I was in twenty pages here.”
“You are still newbie reader.”
He furrows his brow. “I’m not kind of newbie reader. Even if I am a newbie writer, it’s because I don’t like reading novel. I prefer PES and action games instead and that doesn’t mean you should make jest of me.” He dropped the novel. “I’m tired of it already. Annie, we should go now.”
“Go to where?”
“Outside of course, I will drive you to anywhere you want. I just want us to go out.”
I blushed, but I won’t show it before him. “Wait till I read this novel finished.” I pick another novel. Looking the cover, I wondered how on earth I buy this werewolf story. Mrs. Eliza must have dropped it there; she was the one who paid for them after she discovered that I love reading novel.
“This is too much for you to read in a week.”
“I will finish it in ten hours or a day, trust me.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Are you serious, you want me to wait for a day?”
I smiled.
“When I can’t wait for a minute, you have to follow me now.”
“Go carry your bestie, am not going until you I read this novel finished?”
“Stop saying nonsense, who tells you I have a bestie when I don’t have any?”
“What of the girl you are chat with in the car the first time we went to school together?”
“Annie, you haven’t forgotten it. Well, it was one of my friend, he use his girlfriend picture as his profile picture.”
I raised my eyes. This is unbelievable. “So you don’t a bestie, not even a girlfriend? This is a big lie, I can’t believe it.”
“That is your own problem if you refused to believe me. I don’t often care about girls that wear pant.”
“I see, then why did you care to take me out today for a date?”
He just raised his eyebrow.” It’s not a date; it was actually a normal going-out. Just to play, you should have understood.”
“Then go meet your friend. You disturbing my leisure time and mind you, I had two assignments to solve, I don’t have time to waste following you around like a small kid.”
“So you are comparing me to a kid right?”
“You misquote me. I am just busy today, okay? I have a lot of things to do.?
“We can do the assignment together when we arrive at night.”
Oh. I widened my mouth. He mentioned tonight. “Where are we going?” I don’t know when the word slipped down my mouth.
“Anywhere, you want us to go."
