Mira's POV
" Mira, hurry up... I can hear a chopper nearby. It must be here to save up. "
Xen was carrying Braze on his back and Kian was hanging from the wall as he peered outside, trying to look for a way out.
I looked hesitantly behind as the unconscious Watcher. The heat that I had created was too much for people like us. It must have taken a toll on him as well. It felt bad leaving him behind in that state.
" Should we not get him out of here at least? " I asked with shy eyes because I knew it was already difficult trying to make our way out.
" You got a death wish or what, Mira? I am doing him a favor, by not killing him. You want to give him a piggy back ride outside so he can take us all to his torture chambers? No thanks. Did you not hear anything that your uncle said? "
It was difficult countering him but I found my way around anyways.
We pulled him out of that rabbit hole and placed him at the mouth of the cave before we left.
It was Kian's grandfather who was leading the rescue operation along with a few other officers.
The fog around the place had mysteriously cleared and we were able to head out of there.
" Get these damn reporters out of our face... "
Kian's grandfather retorted, " I don't want a single news about this incident to get out. " His assistant nodded as he chauffeured our way inside the school building.
Xen did not come inside the school gates.
" Kian...Are you alright? Are you hurt? "
It was Betty who lunged at Kian but he moved away from her path.
" Careful little Betty. You might get hurt. "
Kian's grandfather caught her before she fell face first.
" This one. This is the witch I was talking about... " Betty stood up and started yelling, pointing at me.
But she stopped when Kian's grandfather held his hand up.
" Not now Betty. You need to be a little sensible. They are still breathing but they need basic first aid till the medical team arrives. Especially this lad. " He pointed towards Braze. He barred the choppers from flying us directly to a hospital because , I think, his own grandson was alright and he didn't want to risk the news to escalate. He didn't come across as an empath.
I could hear Braze's bones repairing themselves, with subtle crackles while he stirred. This relieved me. Hence I didn't counter his decision.
" I am sorry Mira. My grandfather can be a little intimidating... "
Kian looked at me with apologetic eyes as he got his wounds cleaned and I bent over Braze, supporting his arm as the nurse administered some injections.
" Don't worry. This was for the better. " And after the nurses left, I added, " We couldn't risk his super healing abilities to come into light. They would have definitely run some scans. That would have given us away. We don't want that with Watchers, following us. "
And then I realized, I was wrong.
" But Kian... I definitely remember The Watcher Lady in our bus mentioning that they were after some other creature. The ones who came inside the bus. I still remember their eyes. They were nothing like humans. Do you think... " I hesitated?
" us? " Kian completed my question.
" Honestly, I have no clue Mira. It's just the words of a holographic humanoid manifestation who claimed to be your kin.
We have no other source to clarify his claims. Besides, he was right about a lot of things. I guess we will need to do more searching by ourselves. "
".... " Braze turned with a loud moan. Then he suddenly sprang up and crouched on all fours.
" Where's he? "
He asked, looking very confused as his eyes scanned the surroundings.
Kian and I couldn't stop laughing.
" Relax dude... It's over. We are back in school at the hospital wing. "
Kian informed as Braze sat down on the bed, scratching his head.
" How did we get back? Does the entire school know about our secret? "
Braze asked.
We both shook our heads.
" But you missed Mira's power blast. She is an elemental. She was about to burn the entire place down. "
I blushed like a tomato when Kian suddenly decided to praise me like that.
" You are?...You did?...For me?...How do I thank you Mira? How do I apologize?"
His words couldn't have been more awkward.
" I would have done it for anyone... You don't need to thank me. " I stood up. I had a feeling this conversation was heading downhill. " Besides... Why would you even need to apologize? "
I turned around , intending to walk away but he grabbed my arm.
" Mira. I never intended to hurt you. All I wanted to do was protect you... from myself... I wasn't sure of who I was... Mira please... "
I turned with such a force that he immediately let go. Or perhaps it was the blaze in my eyes.
" Are you sure of what you are now Braze because I am not... You must be satiated with your answers but I am just turning the first page of my book. You decide to apologize now that you think there is no secret between us, but shouldn't you have tried talking to me. Even if it was abstract? You could have dumped me over the phone or in private... But you chose to humiliate me in public in spite of knowing how badly I was bullied . You didn't only push me away, you pushed me back into that hell from where you had helped me out . "
" Mira, listen to me. I know what I did was horrible. But I deliberately did it to scare you away. I didn't want to give you any hope. I wanted you far away from myself."
I smiled.
" I guess your tactic worked, Braze. Congratulations. And if you are dying for my forgiveness, fine. I will give you your peace. I forgive you Braze but I don't think forgetting will be very easy for me. "
I walked away, leaving the two of them behind.
