The next few days were not that eventful.
Most of the kids in their class skipped school. They were given respite. Braze was missing and so was Kian and Betty.
Mira didn't feel like texting or calling them.
She casually attended class and went back to her room, ticking days off the calendar before she had to pack her bags and leave.
She tried calling her mother several times but she didn't answer. She called the caterer in their area to ask if everything at home was alright but they said that they hadn't seen her mother for many days. She would have been worried to death at such news but in the light of recent events everything appeared normal.
And then she received a mail -
'Stay where you are or go anywhere else. Do whatever you have to do but do not come back home. It's no longer safe.
I am sorry that I couldn't muster up the courage to tell you everything about your birth. The little time that I had with you , my baby girl, was too perfect. I didn't want to ruin your innocence. But the gates have been opened. They will soon be pouring in. It's almost time for your awakening.
Maybe you will find your uncle trying to connect with you and explain everything. I forgot to mention. I do have a little brother. His name is Kilian.
Ps:Do not trust anybody with your secret Mira. No one. Not even me if I happen to appear before you once again. Love you my DD. Get rid of this letter when you are done reading. '
And that is how the letter ended.
Mira crushed it in her hands and placed it on the window sill. She looked at it with her eyes, concentrating, to burn it down to ashes with her new found powers.
" What the heck are you doing Mira? "
Razzak's voice startled her.
" Are you trying to burn the building down? "
The flames had already caught the windows at the borders. Razzak came to the rescue just in time, pouring the entire jug of water over it and beating it down.
" I'm sorry. " Mira turned around and was about to leave.
" You know this is our last week together. I will miss you when you are gone. "
Mira shook her head.
" There is no home for me. I cannot go back. " She was trying to be brave and hold back the tears. But she was feeling abandoned. She was feeling lost. Her mother had always been her anchor. And now, when she needed her the most, she was gone.
Her line was turned upside down,her innocence murdered, she now had to find her place in a new world.
" What happened? You can talk to me. " Razzak said.
" I don't want to. It's not something that can be easily shared. "
She went out of the room, closing it with a bang.
She went out of the corridor and headed straight towards the school campus.
She didn't want to miss school. It kept her occupied and her mind busy, away from the stress.
She walked inside with her bag swinging in the air. Everything was different with her senses heightened. She had her headphones blasting on high volume to keep all the words floating to her ear. Everything smells different. She could tell the chemical in each jar without even entering the science lab.
She was humming aloud as she checked her routine when suddenly her breath stopped.
The scent was unmistakable.
She slowly turned. Walking right beside her was The Watcher guy, George.
He was in their school uniform and it seemed like he was walking straight up to her.
Mira was contemplating running when suddenly he stopped and bowed at her with a bright smile.
" Hello, my name is George. I am a new student. Can you please show me where the office is? "
Mira scrutinized his face? Was he pretending to not know her? Why would that be?
She decided to play along.
" This way... " She helped him around and he did enter the office after thanking her , " to see you around. "
Mira simply nodded back and gulped.
As soon as he was gone she pulled her phone out and dialed the boys' numbers, in a group call.
To her amazement, they picked up at the same time.
" Where the hell are you guys? " Was her first question.
And to add more, it turned out, they were all sitting together, at the same cafe, not very far away from their school.
" What the heck? You guys enjoying a coffee date together without even bothering to tell me? Skipping school... enjoying life... none of you bothered to text or call... You guys didn't even think about checking on me... how I was doing..... "
Her voice was quivering and quacking, breaking as her anger boiled. She could feel the heat pulsating around her body, voices whispering in her ears as she struggled to calm down.
" Mira.... it's not what you think. "
" Tell us what happened. "
" Mira, you sound worried. "
She was taking deep breaths to cool herself down.
" That Watcher guy... George.... his name is George... he is here... "
She managed to say in between her labored breaths.
" At school? What the heck is he doing there? Xen asked, ready to throw hands.
" He was in uniform. Asked me for directions to the office. I think he got himself admitted. "
" What the heck! Hold on. We are on our way. Don't panic and do anything impulsive. We will be right there." It was Braze, before he hung up.
Xen was gone too. Only Kian was still on the line.
" There is something else, isn't it. " He asked.
" What do you mean? " Mira was taken aback.
" There is something else apart from that Watcher guy bothering you. What is it? You want to share? "
It seemed like Kian always paid close attention to little details.
" It's nothing. "
Mira quickly hung up because it felt uncomfortable to talk with him about her mother.
