CHAPTER 13

AMELIA POV
The Montgomery home was a mess because of one thing - my engagement party. I felt frustrated and confused as I moved through the chaos. It seemed like everything was going wrong, and I wondered why we even planned this party.
I couldn't help but blame my friend Cami. She was the one who came up with the idea of having an engagement party. And of course, Emily got excited and convinced our parents it was necessary. "Even though it's an arranged marriage, it's still a wedding, just for formality," she argued.
As I walked through the house, avoiding busy caterers and decorators, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. "Mom, Dad, do we really need all of this?" I asked, my voice filled with frustration.
"Is all of this really needed?" I asked, gesturing at the fancy decorations and the busy atmosphere filling our home. "I get the importance of our engagement, but does it have to be this big?"
Mother buzzed around like a busy bee, arranging every detail with care. "Amelia, dear, we need this to be the most beautiful event," she said, gesturing dramatically as she looked around the living room.
I sighed quietly, already feeling stressed by how over-the-top everything was. "Mom, can't we make it simple?" I asked, trying to explain. "I just want a small, cozy celebration and to finish this party quickly. You understand, right?"
My father, calm in the chaos, sat in his favorite chair by the fireplace. His eyes watched the commotion around us. He didn't talk much, but when he did, it mattered.
"Now, now, Amelia," he started, his voice calming amid the busy scene. "Let's give your mom her happy moment. She's been waiting for this day since you were a little girl playing with your dollhouse."
His smile softened, the wrinkles on his face showing years of happiness. "This is a special moment, a big step in your lives," he said, pausing, lost in thought. "Maybe this is the last time she'll have such a big celebration for you. It's not every day our little girl gets engaged," he added, sounding both happy and sad.
He faced me, his eyes shining with tears of joy. Giving me a sorry smile, he took my hand gently. "Be patient with her excitement, dear. These moments mean a lot to her too, just like they do to you."
I stood there, feeling completely defeated, as my parents kept pushing their big ideas for the engagement party. "Fine, Dad," I finally gave in, barely speaking up. Walking away from them, I climbed the stairs to my room, feeling the heaviness of the upcoming celebration.
Reaching my room, I fell onto the bed, feeling the tiredness from the past days hit me hard. It was nearly 5 pm according to the clock on my nightstand, and I knew Cami and Miguel would show up soon to help. They've always been there for me, and I couldn't be more thankful for their constant friendship.
I sighed deeply, feeling worn out, as I faced the sobering fact of my upcoming wedding day. Just thinking about it brought a flood of emotions, none of them happy like they should be for such an occasion.
In just two days, I'd go from being a Montgomery to a Westwood. The thought of this change weighed heavily on me, making me feel sad and lost.
Looking ahead, I couldn't shake the deep sadness and worry I felt. What used to seem like a bright future now felt scary and uncertain, leaving me unsure of what to expect.
Luckily, amid the emotional chaos, I felt relieved knowing I'd sorted out everything for the upcoming wedding. I owed this feeling of achievement mostly to my loyal friends, Cami and Miguel, who worked tirelessly to help me.
During the difficult planning, Cami and Miguel were my strong supporters, giving me constant help and endless encouragement when things got tough. Their endless energy and firm dedication kept me going through every choice and detail.
Their hard work not only eased my work but also made the whole process feel like a team effort with a common goal. We tackled venue, food, and guest arrangements together. As the last moments passed, I couldn't help but think about the many late-night calls, rushed fittings, and sudden pep talks that led to this point.
Yet, one person was notably absent. Alexander, my fiancé, had been gone since our fight on Monday. It felt like he disappeared, either buried in work or away somewhere unknown. The quiet between us was loud, and I wondered what caused this sudden gap. I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that gnawed at my insides, wondering what I had done to drive him away.
"What's wrong with him?" I grumbled quietly, feeling frustrated. It hurt to think he'd pull away at such an important moment. The doubt ate at me, making me feel weak and open.
Thankfully, my parents didn't seem to notice Alexander's absence, saving me from more stress caused by questions and worried looks. I couldn't imagine how I'd confront him when he returned. Would he be mad? Would he ignore me? The idea of his personality made me feel embarrassed, especially with my relatives looking forward to our wedding.
With a sigh, I set aside the thoughts that troubled me, telling myself that I had done all I could to make this day great. There was no point in dwelling on what others did when I should be enjoying the happiness and celebration ahead.
"Oh, whatever," I said, feeling determined. "I'll just take a shower and clear my head before I go insane."
Getting up from the bed, I headed to the bathroom, the warm water giving me a break from the turmoil within. Surrounded by steam, I took a moment to relax, letting go of the outside worries and doubts.
